Nun Killed By “Hope And Change”

As if the sordid tale of Carlos Martinelly-Montano killing a nun wasn’t shocking enough, now comes a story from the Washington Post about how instead of deporting this habitual drunken driving illegal alien, the Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement instead provided him with an Employment Authorization Card and set him free. As an illegal alien awaiting a deportation hearing, Martinelly-Montano had no legal right to this kind of “soft amnesty”, but despite what the the law says the Obama administration facilitated this illegal alien’s continued unlawful presence, making it far easier for him to continue to violate the law, and resulting in the death of innocent Americans.

This isn’t what I expected from “hope and change” at all. I’d have never thought this sort of insanity possible. (more…)

Manassas: History At Your Fingertips

Here’s a project I recently completed for Historic Manassas that readers might enjoy, focused on the Civil War events and re-enactors as we prepare for the 150th anniversary of the Battle of First Manassas. One of the really special things about living in this area is how we are so connected with our local history. History isn’t an abstract and minor facet of this wonderful place, it is something that defines us. We enjoy the rare privilege of being the present-day custodians of this ground, and it is our responsibility to ensure that the legacy of our past carries towards the future, informing future generations of the nature and value of sacrifice, honor, dedication and ultimately reconciliation that makes where we are so unique and priceless.

God has certainly given us all a rare and undeserved gift by bringing us to this special place on earth.

The Summer of Crazy - Part 2

As if mosques at Ground Zero and sex shops opening in Old Town Manassas weren’t enough to make this the Summer of Crazy, today an Al Gore inspired eco-nut decided the best way to save the planet was to plant explosives and take hostages at the eco-nut friendly Discovery Channel. The response of Montgomery County Police Chief Charles “illegal aliens are our friends” Manger, in a display of typical liberal compassion, was to have the guy shot.

In related news, Congressman Gerry Connolly has declared himself the “King of Fiscal Responsibility.”

The world has truly gone mad.

Old Town Manassas has a lot of different shops where you can find old books, clothes, furniture and all sorts of wonderful things, all befitting a quaint historic town. So one local entrepreneur decided to add to that mix something we certainly don’t have. A place to buy sex toys.

Tonight at the Board of Supervisors meeting there’s an agenda item to discuss accepting one-time “stimulus” money to add to the payroll of the school system, something a lot of TEA Party movement people don’t particularly care for. If you don’t support the debt and spending policies of the federal government, and don’t want future budgets distorted by today’s federal “giveaways”, being at the McCoart Building tonight would be a good investment of your time. Cuccinelli Drives Liberals Nuts, Again

Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli issued a legal opinion today on the subject of state regulation of abortion clinics at the request of Delegate Bob Marshall, something sure to send infanticide apologists into a frenzy. As with Cuccinelli’s opinion on the authority of state law enforcement officers to question suspected illegal aliens about their immigration status, it hardly breaks new ground, but deviating in any way from the liberal party line always gets the moonbats in a lather. MP City Manager ‘Jumped Out’

The News & Messenger had a puff piece this week on City Manager Mercury Payton resigning from his position at Manassas Park. The story, as the eagle-eyed reporters at the N&M present it, is that Payton left his six-figure job as the daily operations manager of the Manassas Park Crime Syndicate in order to take over the van shuttle business that his parents run out of their basement on River Forest Drive in Manassas. I’m all for filial piety stories, but in light of past events this one doesn’t pass the smell test. (more…)

The illegal alien who killed a nun recently continues to be the subject of some interesting investigative reporting, of which a recent Times-Dispatch article is particularly notable. In addition to evidence that Carlos Martinelly Montano committed multiple identity fraud crimes that law enforcement never bothered to prosecute, it appears that court documents list at least some of the employers who facilitated the unlawful presence of this dangerous criminal illegal alien in our community. These employers should bear significant criminal and civil penalties for their felonious support of this illegal alien. (more…)

After getting lavish amounts of free promotional consideration from the leftist mainstream media which boosted their reported membership to the stratosphere, the Coffee Party USA is falling apart before they’ve even held their first national convention, according to their own members. Their failure speaks volumes to the vastly different principles and methods employed in the formation of the Coffee Party and the TEA Party movement, and unsurprisingly, the one where liberty reigns is robust and growing while the socialist methodology of top-down command and control activism is quickly fading. Seventy Socialist Party Members In Congress

The Socialist Party of America has revealed the names of the seventy members of Congress who are members of the “Democratic Socialists of America,” a list which includes the Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee. Although members on this list aren’t particularly surprising (Barney Frank and Maxine Waters, for example), that there are more “Democratic Socialists” in Congress than there are members of the Tea Party Caucus is pretty alarming.

Governor Bob McDonnell threw a bone to concerned supporters this week by announcing that he would request enrollment of the Virginia State Police in the Section 287(g) Program. Before anyone thinks of breaking out the proverbial champagne in celebration of McDonnell stepping back from his comments that Virginia is already doing everything it can in regards to illegal immigration, they might want to consider holding off a bit, as the ultimate result of this announcement is likely to be pretty disappointing.
