If You Need Proof…
By Greg L | 12 April 2007 | Prince William County | 13 Comments
One of Mike Messier’s defenders has decided to accuse me of lying about whether a complaint has been filed with the Commonwealth Attorney’s office concerning Mike Messier’s bribery attempt made to the Prince William County Republican Committee on February 26th. Since this particular commenter has actually behaved himself, unlike many of his allies, and this does provide an opportunity to open up the discussion on this again, I’ll meet his bluff and raise by a felony indictment. Or at least what should be one. If you click on the thumbnail on the left, you’ll be able to see the complaint that I faxed to the Commonwealth Attorney’s office on February 28th, 2007. Anyone demanding further proof that the Commonwealth Attorney’s office received a complaint regarding Mr. Messier is welcome to contact Paul Ebert.
Of note is that the meeting minutes approved by the committee precisely substantiate my allegations. It should be interesting to see if Mike Messier’s defenders are willing to accuse the Secretary of the Prince William County Republican Committee of lying, and the entire committee which approved these minutes of being complicit in such a lie. That should encourage some votes, but not votes for Mr. Messier.
I still can’t figure out why it is that Mike Messier’s small but dedicated band of defenders seem so determined to prove just how politically inept they and the Mike Messier campaign really are. When confronted with Mike Messier’s long and uninspiring record, they baselessly accuse Sheriff Glen Hill of being a “corrupt thug” and try to argue that my recollection of Messier’s utterly brain-dead statements, along with over 100 members of the PWCRC, are somehow flawed. Not one of these defenders were apparently present themselves to hear Messier’s comments, but they’re certain that I, and over one hundred witnesses are wrong.
In addition to potentially infuriating the most reliable Republican primary voters in the county, and drawing what I am sure will be the ire of at least one district supervisor, Mike Messier’s campaign is floundering for meaningful policy differences and has become utterly pointless. If the Commonwealth Attorney’s office can complete it’s investigation in a timely fashion and indict Mike Messier for violating state election laws, this campaign should be over.
It can’t come soon enough.
UPDATE: Especially when things like this seems to start showing up.

I just followed the link to the previous thread (”Mike Messier’s Mess”) and that exchange between you and Eyrx, Greg. Aside from Eyrx’s rant being sorely in need of spell check, it was also sorely in need of substantiated fact. For instance, his comment, “If Stoffregen lost he’d be fired. (Great thing working at the whim of the Sheriff) You have no idea the workings that go on in a political office like the Sheriffs,” was an assumption that does not hold up under scrutiny. I was at Glen’s victory party at KC’s on election night and was sitting in the bar chatting with some folks, including several of Stoffregen’s deputies, when Glen came in to chat. After congratulations were offered to Glen (votes were in), one of the deputies, in a very discouraged tone, said something to the effect that, “I guess we’ll all be looking for jobs now” (which is exactly what Stroffregen would have done, if the situation were reversed). Glen’s response was quick and sincere when he said, “Nobody’s losing their job unless they want to leave.” There was a look of shock on the faces of the deputies, particularly the gentleman who made the remark. To my knowledge no one was fired without extremely good cause, and any demotions which may have occurred were also for good cause. If Messier left, it was either because he chose to…or for one of the previous reasons.
The Sheriff very definitely has the right to clean house when he comes into office…but that was not Glen Hill, despite the fact that he was elected from the Party which has never held the Sheriff’s office in PWC, which would give him far better reason do so than his predecessors had. It is, however, true that Stoffregen demanded that his deputies actively campaign for his re-election (I spoke to one of them at my precinct on Election Day) and held their employment over their heads (whether he won or lost). So, I can see how some people may believe that’s how it works…it’s been that way for a long time.
If your public service record looks as bad as Glendell’s, throw stones at your opponent seems to be Hill minion plan!!
If you ever get the chance to hear Glendell Hill speak you will hear him use words like state mandate, requires and core duties. The words he doesn’t use much when he speaks are community, service and public safety. When he is finished speaking, you cannot help but wonder if he were to give the citizens of Prince William something that was not mandated and required of him to do for the citizens, would he feel he gave them too much?…… Maybe he gave the citizens something more than they deserve?
Glendell’s public service record makes the Democrats look like the law and order fiscal conservatives.
I take it, Anonymous, that you were one of Stoffregen’s deputies ( or worse, “auxillary deputies”) who was involved in the attempt to circumvent the mandated duties of the County and City police in order to assume the law enforcement responsibilities throughout the county and place it at (as Eyrx pointed out) “the whim of the Sheriff.” I read or hear such statements as yours and it conjures up visions of those incredibly annoying (and HUGE) traffic jams at the bottleneck on Nokesville Road because two Sheriff’s deputies’ vehicles are sitting there, along with the County Police who were there as well (per THEIR mandate), pulling over cars in a spot where there was no room to do it. I sincerely doubt that it was a situation where the County Police requested the assistance of the Sheriff’s office, which is supposed to be the Sheriff’s mandate in this county. That was certainly not a case of public service, and most certainly not public safety…it was during the campaign for County funds, as well as Stroffregen’s campaign for re-election.
If you have specific charges Anonymous, make them. All this innuendo from the Stroffregen/Messier “minions” is growing rather tiresome. Glen Hill was specifically elected to return the Sheriff’s office to those “core duties,” without competing with County or City police for either duties or funds. The taxpayer doesn’t need any more redundancy than already exists. If that makes me a Hill “minion,” then I’m in good company (with over 60% of the electorate).
Even you have to agree Glendell has cut more services to the community (including children and senior citizen services) than he gives to the community.
I have never seen a man dislike public service so much but still want to hold public office….. But hey, when you are collecting over $460 thousand dollars from the taxpayers every four years why not give it a shot.
Why don’t you break that down to a yearly wage Anonymous? Is it perhaps because around $115K per year for a chief executive position doesn’t sound unreasonable for this area?
Anonymous, what you’re basically saying is that Hill should be thrown out because he upholds the duties of his office as mandated by the state constitution and law?
Yup, makes complete sense to me.
I’d like to start off with I never said you where lying Greg I said please point me in the right direction so I could see what Mike said. That’s all. And to reiterate what I’ve said over the last few days. You heard Mike say something that was not the smartest comment. But that doesn’t mean he was trying to bribe anyone. Just because you took it that way and wrote a letter to the Commonwealth doesn’t mean Mike is going to be indicted and forced out of the election.
To AW
I’m sorry I can’t spell or write to save my life. But that doesn’t make any of my points are less true.
You claim I rant about things I know nothing about. The sad fact is I do. You can chose not to believe because I will not tell you my past. But I have worked for a Sheriff and a police captain in my life time. You also say you don’t know of anyone being fired when Glendell took office. You really should look into that before you open that can of worms.
I’m also sorry you got stuck in a traffic jam when the county’s Law Enforcement officials decided to set up a speed trap. Or was it a DUI check point? So either you’re upset about that because you got a ticket or you where late getting home by 10min. I’m sorry but I’d sit in a traffic back up for the police, and sheriff’s to do either a speed trap or DUI check point. But again you digress, that was what over 3 years ago…?
As always God bless, and best wishes.
It amazes me that there are still a few die-hard hankerers for the Stoffregen years. PW is well rid of him and the useless, costly, corrupt empire he attempted to build by distorting Sheriff functions into a parallel (and redundant) police force. Glenn Hill was a great advance for the County and for the Republican Party. The Sheriff’s role is to ensure court house security, run the jails and serve writs. Full stop. As far as I’ve heard, Sheriff Hill has done a superior job of fulfilling those functions.
“I’m also sorry you got stuck in a traffic jam when the county’s Law Enforcement officials decided to set up a speed trap. Or was it a DUI check point?”
Given that you are unfamiliar with that bottleneck, Anonymous, I would wager that you also have not lived in this county…or at least spent any time on the Western end of it. This would also confirm that you are not, nor have you been, a member of the PWC law enforcement community. Allow me to enlighten you: The Sheriff’s Department placed those deputies there during rush hour (the only speeding was being done at approx. 5MPH; a DUI checkpoint at 4 in the afternoon would be rather ridiculous; and the reason for ANY law enforcement to be there would be to (and was) to prevent traffic jumping (cars going straight from a right turn only lane) and it certainly didn’t require four deputies in two cars, ill-placed to pull the cars over (no room) and one county police car with a motorcycle officer back-up (far more appropriate) to accomplish that. The only thing it accomplished was exacerbating the rush hour backup to where it took anywhere from 30-60+ minutes to get from Godwin Drive to Linton Hall Road. Purpose: Exposure for the Sheriff’s Department, and this is only one example of many during that period of time.
This is hardly public service OR public safety…and if you can’t comprehend that, then there’s no point in further discussion.
“I’m also sorry you got stuck in a traffic jam when the county’s Law Enforcement officials decided to set up a speed trap. Or was it a DUI check point? ”
But I am not sorry that one of Stoffy’s “special Deputies” got caught ina DUI check point in New Jersey, and tried to talk his way out of being arrested by flashing an ilegally possessed badge, with expired credentials. I am not sorry that this cronies $5-$10K donation to Stoffy’s slush fund didn’t buy any influence after Stoffy’s defeat, and Messier’s dismissal.
On another note, Messier was running the showwhile Stoffy was running for reelection, and during the transition after Hill’s victory. It was during this time that a fully automatic weapon went missing, and ended up in the posession of Stoffy. According to the Fire Arms Control act of 1935, Stoffy could not legally own a full-auto or selective fire weapon. This much is beyond debate. The real question is, was Messier complicant in the illegal transfer, or just plain oblivious that it had happened? Crooked or Dumb?
Now all of those who defend Messier are fighting in vain. Messier has ZERO support from the local units, and even less traction with voters. No one believes that he is a Republican. I have heard him speak on the same stage as Hill twice, and both times Messier has ended up looking like an ass. He has no chance what-so-ever.
My prediction is that Messier gets less than 30% of the primary vote.
Excuse me, that was not Anonymous…that was directed in response to Eyrx.
Kind of got off track there in the comments.
I was at the meeting, and we were told that if Messier won election, the committee would get $10,000.
I am not a lawyer, so I have no idea if that is considered a bribe or not.
I will say in a minor defense of Messier that anybody can file a complaint about anything, so the fact that there has been a complaint filed really isn’t meaningful, except it proves that there was one file for those who might have said there wasn’t one.
What would be interesting is if there is an indictment. There probably could be an investigation (because of the complaint) but an investigation isn’t a sign of something wrong, just a sign that the authorities are taking the appropriate action when they get a complaint — checking to see if the complaint is valid.
It’s nice to see that when evidence actually exists, it can be presented. I haven’t had such luck when I’ve asked for evidence about things.
could messier be any more of a joke yes we can all laugh hahaha a trash man yes a sheriff no only if corruption and the good old boy thing suits you
