THE PRICE OF FREEDOM IS ETERNAL VIGILANCE
By Greg L | 1 June 2006 | Blogs | 15 Comments
Protecting liberty isn’t something you do sitting on the couch. I’ve seen people wear useless little ribbons that represent the protection of free speech or make other pointless public displays that make themselves feel good, but do nothing to protect our constitutional liberties. Yeah, so when it costs you nothing, you protect liberty. What about when protecting liberty isn’t so easy and comfortable?
Liberty needs protection not when it’s easy, but when it’s hard. That’s how you defend our freedoms, by standing up to a challenge when liberty is at risk. When you see that victim getting pummeled by the side of the road and jump out to stop it, while your fears tell you it’s safer to keep driving. When you protest an employer’s actions when you know that what they’re doing is in violation of the law, even if it means you might lose your job. And in this case, when you know it’s easier to make some fake apology and prevent yourself from the attention of some law firm, instead of standing up and fighting for the liberties you cherish.
If it should come to pass that anyone who makes what they believe to be (and I still do) accurate observations about a candidate for office should be hauled into court because it apparently is inconvenient for a campaign, then our republic is in grave danger. Our uniquely American racous political discourse is an important reason why our republic is so worthy of our love. It may not always be pretty, and it can get downright ugly, but the ability of a citizen, or the press to challenge a candidate is a vital part of our democracy. To lose our ability to challenge our candidates would be a crushing blow to the America I want my children to inherit from me.
I know that some out there feel that I have been too harsh. I accept that criticism, along with the accolades of those who believe I have helped reveal truth to an electorate underserved by the traditional media, with equal regard. It has never been my interest to obtain personal gain or credit for helping to improve the ability of the electorate to make more informed choices. This is about our candidates, our future, and the truth.
And as I have stated before, if I can be shown that what I have written was not correct, I am more than willing to correct the record. I will not back down in the face of threats and bullying, however. I do not flinch when confronted by would-be tyrants. I may have many faults, but moral cowardice is not one of them.

Whoa, momma! Well said!
Great post Greg!! You should send the text over to the MJM…they seem to be more interested in this than the actual campaign/candidates for the 50th.
“When you see that victim getting pummeled by the side of the road and jump out to stop it….”
Funny. “Pummeling” is a word that some would use to describe your treatment of Chapman.
The difference in that case was that the victims, in two separate incidents one evening, were innocent and being physically assaulted by three hispanic gang members. I put an end to it. It’s a world of difference.
Greg,
You are a true hero.
BVBL,
Where ever you are, thank you.
Chapman’s legal team,
BITE ME!
Bloggers Unite! Long live Black Velvet Bruce Lee!
looks like Jaded JD is taking some action:

it also looks like Chapman’s legal team are not “detail guys” either.
Whoa, momma!
If these guys are looking for someone to sue for defamation of Mr. Chapman, they should check out these two posts:

Thanks to Nixon deputizing me (and what I think must be a glitch in the software on that site), I see that the IP address for both those posts looks like it came from 70.187.199.213 if I’m reading it correctly, but I could be wrong since I’m more comfortable using a waffle iron than a computer.
I got all shook up when I saw “—stevechapmanwantsparrishdead” and then noticed that the date was just a few days before he passed on to the big Graceland in the sky. That’s just wrong, man….
Be vigilant regarding Gill:

A very interesting read:

Wow Anon. 12:20 & 12:47, this goes way deeper than I thought. It also might explain this:
JUNN06_05 MAR-JAC Poultry Inc. - P.O.Box 1017 - Gainesville - GA - 30503 Poultry Company - Gainesville GA 5/6/2005 1500 1500 (from Chapman’s SBE financial disclosure report)
“Affidavit traces financial probe of poultry firm
By REBECCA CARR
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
WASHINGTON — A newly released court document sheds light on the link
between a Georgia poultry company and a web of Virginia companies and
nonprofits suspected of supporting radical Islamic terrorists.
Mar-Jac Poultry, a large poultry processor in Gainesville, allegedly
transferred millions of dollars to the businesses and charities in a
suspicious manner, according to an affidavit filed by David Kane, a
federal investigator with the Department of Homeland Security’s
Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency, in federal court in the
Eastern District of Virginia.” (first two paragraphs of article)
Google MARJAC-Poultry, Inc., Investigations and you’ll find that article and lots more.
I wonder if Steve Chapman realizes just HOW big that can of worms he opened is going to get.
Chapman is an idiot to dumb to hold public office for anything. If could not figure out that there was a filing deadline he is hopeless. Also that MJM article provided you with great publicity. Before that only 10 people (or so) even knew about BVBL. Manassas John
Greg, the way you worded this post makes it sound like you are taking credit for the words written by BVBL. I’m still operating on the assumption that you are NOT BVBL.
Friday’s Potomac News editorial said it very well:
“Yet cyberspace offers a giant stage for the gutless attacks of cowards who hurl insults and accusations under the cover of anonymity.
The first amendment allows a person to say something, without prior censorship by the government. It does NOT protect a person from the consequences of that speech.
Nobody stopped BVBL from posting, he quit himself. Nobody is shutting down this blog. Nobody is telling you what you can write. But people have to accept the consequences of their actions, and if the justice system finds defamation, it will exact those consequences.
BTW, Greg, thanks for stopping by my booth yesterday at the train show.

How do you track the IP address for comments?
Whoa, momma! For some reason, on some websites using the some kind of Word-thingy-majigy software, the IP addresses just pop up along with the comments. Don’t know what that’s all about. Sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn’t. At first, I thought they were just phone numbers advertising for Chinese take-out.
