I heard today that Virginia Senator Charles Colgan (D-29th) spoke to the Chamber of Commerce and defended the current transportation funding formula which returns to Northern Virginia only 20 cents of every dollar of taxes collected in Northern Virgina. After hearing of Colgan’s proposed tax levy on petroleum distributors, this is beginning to look like a consistent pattern of incompetence regarding taxation and budgetary issues.
Northern Virginia contributes about 40% of the state tax revenues, and only receieves 18% of the transportation budget. Now how in the heck can Colgan defend this as fair? Is Colgan trying to agitate for additional taxation for transportation rather than a more fair spending plan? This is just dumb.
