ALERT: PREPARE TO REARRANGE DECK CHAIRS

By Greg L | 27 June 2006 | Prince William County | 3 Comments

Riley over at Virginia Virtucon is sitting on a big story that will go public later on today. Make sure you keep a close eye on VV, as this is going to shake things up quite a bit.

UPDATE:
The news is now official that BOCS Chairman Sean Connaughton has been named as President Bush’s nominee for Maritime Administrator in the Department of Transportation. Connaughton’s appointment has been one of the worst-kept secrets in Prince William County politics and has been widely rumored for several months. I’m pleased that what has been well known to insiders for some time is now public record. His background in maritime law and the vacancy in the Maritime Administrator position for over a year was what insiders expected this announcement to be about, although the rapid departure of DOT Secretary Norman Minetta and the advancing of this announcement by a week potentially signalled a more prominent promotion, which really got some folks buzzing today.

This is a great cause for celebration, that one of Prince William County’s own has been chosen for this important position. Sean Connaughton has earned this honor through hard work, dedication and his effective leadership of the Board of County Supervisors. He is an excellent choice for this position, and I wish him all the best. I know a lot of Prince William County Republicans will be celebrating tonight.

This of course creates an open position at the Chairman’s spot on the BOCS in the near future. Several current supervisors are interested in this position, among them Marty Nohe and Corey Stewart. Either of these men would do a fine job as Chairman, but I am impressed most by the recent leadership of Corey Stewart regarding the Brentswood development, where he was one of only two supervisors to publicly announce his opposition.

And for the record, James Young was wrong again. It would have been nice, though, to have one of our own on President Bush’s cabinet. I can’t blame him for hoping.

Greg, if you believed that the referenced post was made with anything but tongue planted firmly in cheek, then you’re more of an idiot than your association with the cowardly BVBL would suggest.

Grow a sense of humor, dude.

BTW, you wrongly suggest in another thread that I owe you an apology. I think you really owe me one for misrepresenting the tone of my post.

Plus, Jim, you didn’t predict that Sean would BE the secretary, you just said that he was the BEST QUALIFIED to be the Transportation Secretary.

If you were wrong about that, you were wrong when you said it, not now.

I don’t know why Greg didn’t go after the more obviously WRONG comment in this affair, which was another prominent blogger calling Corey Stewart a Liar and saying that Sean would serve out his term.

    Now that was a two-bagger.
