RISHELL’S “SHOCK AND AWE” FIZZLES

By Greg L | 28 June 2006 | 50th HOD District | No Comments

Jeanette Rishell had her campaign kickoff at her house on June 25th, attended by about 75 people according to Bruce Rommelt. The Manassas Journal-Messenger, which is usually eager to cover anything related to Democratic campaigns, didn’t bother to report on this. As far as campaign kickoffs go, this was underwhelming.

You may recall that Jackson Miller had about 250 people at his kickoff, held at the Old Courthouse where kids got ice cream. Carroll Weimer had a campaign kickoff attended by about 200 people in a parking lot at a fire station, and served a pretty good barbeque. Rishell holds her kickoff at her house, and all you got was Bruce Rommelt. I think the attendees got a bad deal.

Rommelt was the emcee, and made the usual statements about how these lefty “progressives” are more representative of the convictions of Harry Parrish than Jackson Miller. I have heard from Harry Parrish’s 2005 campaign manager that she feels this type of mischaracterization of Harry Parrish’s record is an absolute outrage. Harry wasn’t tooling around town in a car sporting bumper stickers promoting gay “marriage”, agitating on the behalf of illegal immigrants or trying to legalize drugs. Rommelt and Rishell are out of line with this ridiculous foolishness.

One part of Bruce’s post that is worth noting is how he and Rishell both embrace their association with the BRUU “Social Justice” platform, saying “we will not back down on our faith or our values”. I seem to recall another candidate who ran under the “not backing down” banner, and it’s interesting they’re borrowing campaign slogans from that debacle.

Maybe that’s what Bruce is talking about with this:

“[Matt Harrison’s] advice to Jeanette along with the rest of the crew she’s put together (Beth and I included) is working very well to develop our own version of “shock and awe” in this very important race.”

Spectacular campaign implosions certainly qualify as “shock and awe”. We’ll keep watching.
