Rishell’s Campaign Finances

19 July 2006 | Manassas City, Virginia House, 50th HOD District | 7 Comments

A closer look at the campaign finance reports released earlier this week shows that the top contributor to Rishell’s campaign is – Rishell.  30% of her total contributions ($6,393 out of $21,164) came from either her or her husband.
Jackson Miller, in contrast, has loaned his campaign about $2,500, or 7% of his total receipts.
There is […]

LADIES & GENTS, ELVIS HAS LEFT THE BUILDING…

18 July 2006 | Blogs, Prince William County | 14 Comments

Jim tells me that King of Suede is over and he’s hanging up his blue suede shoes. Thus ends another short velvet experience with another big exit.
Ben has an interesting take on the issue at NLS, where he’s currently heading up the “Jim Riley is a meanie” bandwagon and proposing an unusual theory that […]

FINANCE REPORTS ARE IN

18 July 2006 | 50th HOD District | 2 Comments

Campaign Finance Disclosures for the 50th District are now posted on the website of the State Board of Elections, and as expected Jackson Miller trounced Jeanette “Moonfruit” Rishell.
Ms. Rishell recieved cash and in-kind contributions from her employer, a little out of state money, the Virginia Partisans Gay & Lesbian Democratic Club, and the expected support […]

Guilt By Association?

18 July 2006 | Blogs, 50th HOD District | 1 Comment

I found this little tidbit in an article from the Gainsville Times. I know it is from a few weeks ago, but I just spotted it on Rishell’s website.
“Gary Friedman, a potential candidate for chairman of the Prince William Board of Supervisors, said that after talking with several local Republicans, he believes the GOP […]

Underestimating Rishell

18 July 2006 | 50th HOD District | 6 Comments

I have had three opportunities to meet Jeanette Rishell now. While she may have many ideas that are out of the mainstream, but she doesn’t come across that way. She is articulate, polite and quite pleasant. (She also doesn’t look like it is possible that she is a grandmother, but that’s another […]

VELVET ELVIS INTERVIEW

17 July 2006 | Blogs | 1 Comment

Despite the problems on the main page over at Shaun’s site, you can go to the interview directly here. It’s a good read.
Yes, Jim Riley is Velvet Elvis, and given the information that was posted on King of Suede it hardly could have been anyone else. I know that both Vincent Harris and Ben […]

VELVET ELVIS BREAKING NEWS

17 July 2006 | Blogs | 9 Comments

Later on tonight, Shaun Kenney will post an interview with Velvet Elvis. It’s going to be a real eye-opener.
UPDATE: Well, it seems that interest in this story is high enough that Shaun’s server has fallen over, at least temporarily, from the load of hundreds of anxious readers hitting “reload” at frequent intervals trying to […]

FIRST WE WILL RAISE YOUR TAXES…

17 July 2006 | Prince William County | 1 Comment

What’s a new Democratic mayor for the Town of Occoquan to do? Well, raise taxes of course!
Despite having a surplus, the Town Council raised taxes 70% for the fiscal year beginning July 1st. Admittedly the residents of Occoquan have it better even with this tax hike than plenty of other towns in Prince William […]

RISHELL “SHOCK AND AWE” THUDS BIG TIME

16 July 2006 | Virginia House, 50th HOD District | 11 Comments

Bruce Rommelt, who emceed at Jeanette “Moonfruit” Rishell’s fundraiser with the Virginia Partisans Gay & Lesbian Democratic Club apparently stole the show in his attempt to position himself in a future run against Delegate Robert Marshall (R-13). Instead of putting the focus on Jeanette Rishell’s failing campaign and helping her raise some much-needed money for […]

HAYMARKET TYRANNY

16 July 2006 | Prince William County | 4 Comments

After allowing police officers to pursue personal vendettas against citizens using their official authority (previously reported here), and attempting to unlawfully continue a reserve officer program suspended by the town council (reported here), now the town council is attempting to create retroactive law in order to cover for the unlawful actions of their police force. […]

RISHELL OUTRAGES PARRISH FAMILY

15 July 2006 | Manassas City, 50th HOD District | 17 Comments

Jeanette “Moonfruit” Rishell has been touting herself as someone who is “moderate in the mold of Harry Parrish”, and I am hearing from sources that the family of Harry Parrish, and his widow in particular are absolutely livid at this mischaraterization. Harry Parrish was very conservative on social issues and was endorsed by several family […]

TOO CONSERVATIVE HOSTILE TAKEOVER?

14 July 2006 | Blogs | 32 Comments

Too Conservative appears to be the victim of a hostile takeover by Mitch Cumstein, as a number of Mitch’s posts have appeared and every other post on the blog has vanished. I’ve tried to locate evidence of some older posts, and it seems they have all been deleted.
This happened shortly after the appearance of King […]

FEDER MONEY DETAILS

14 July 2006 | US Congress | Comments Off

I’ve been crunching some numbers from Judy Feder’s campaign finance disclosure, and some interesting details are coming up. The top four states providing individual donations are Virginia, New York, Maryland and DC. Four hundred fifty seven individual donors were listed, and here’s how it sorts out:

DC had 86 donors
Maryland had 81 donors
Virginia had […]

COULD IT BE?

14 July 2006 | Blogs | 15 Comments

I see some eerie similarities between Velvet Elvis and a previous blogger who I very much liked to read. It should be interesting to watch and see what this new addition to the Velvet blogging world will do.
UPDATE: Looks like he’s really taking the battle to TC. Ouch!

CANDIDATE SIGHTING

14 July 2006 | 50th HOD District | 2 Comments

On my way to work this morning, I ran across Republican nominee for the 50th District Jackson Miller. He was in uniform and on duty as a Prince William County Police officer, and had pulled over a vehicle at the corner of Williamson and Stonehouse Drive. I hear he’s still working a few […]

RISHELL ON TAXES: SOUNDS LIKE KARL MARX

13 July 2006 | 50th HOD District | 1 Comment

Jeanette “Moonfruit” Rishell has an interesting position on taxes. When they’re not actually taxes, she’s against them. When they are actually taxes, she wants to raise them. To wit:
“Drivers in our community pay over $2100 each year in delays, car mainteance, gas, and increased risk for accidents due to our inadaquate transportation […]

DECLARATION OF INCOMPETENCE

13 July 2006 | US Congress | 2 Comments

Judy Feder joined Jeanette “MoonFruit” Rishell at the corner of Liberia and Centreville Road in order to unveil her “Declaration of Energy Independence” recently. Dressed suspiciously like a service station attendant, she displayed her understanding of what a declaration of independence might look like to a Georgetown academic. I would expect she should have some […]

MORE FEDER CONFUSION

12 July 2006 | Humor & Satire, US Congress | Comments Off

In an article on Raising Kaine the Feder cheerleaders not only confuse government-imposed CAFE standards with lower oil consumption, but can’t seem to figure out what seat Judy Feder is actually running for. Last time I checked, she was trying to run agains Frank Wolf in the 10th Congressional District, not the 11th, where Tom […]

FEDER COMES TO MANASSAS, ACTS DUMB

12 July 2006 | US Congress, 50th HOD District | 2 Comments

The Manassas Journal-Messenger, in it’s unfailing attempt to provide coverage to Democratic Party non-events, posted an article about Judy Feder’s little stunt near a gas station today. Complaining that gas costs too much, she is proposing raising taxes on oil companies. I guess she thinks that taxing more causes an increase in supply in […]

Come on Manassas Journal Messenger!

11 July 2006 | Manassas City | 1 Comment

The Manassas Journal Messenger bills itself as the only local daily newspaper in the County. The paper has an office almost within sight of the Manassas City Hall, yet the paper does a horrible job of covering the politics of the City. For example last week, two new members of the City Council were sworn […]
