Also, the construction industry is getting overwhelmed with labor, kind of like over fishing the coastal waters. In 1991,the recession was so severe,a bricklayers job was almost impossible to find. So, when a recession comes, your guess is as good as mine as to what happens with illegals. Some illegals are geuinely nice people. Others, well, their goodness is an illusion, and a thin veil. I'd like to see a long conga line, with sombreros, and cowboy boots headed for Mexico, with everybody singing La Cucaracha. And put them all in the back of the line for citizenship applications. Did you know the Great Wall Of China was built to keep illegal Mexicans out?

How benevolent of our elected officials, who want all illegals to stay. The illegals take only the jobs well educated Americans don't want, while many Americans, have to compete for jobs with those who have no business being in this country. How far do the illegals have to be from the Mexican border before they can't be arrested?Construction sites are often flooded to about 98% Latino,do you know many are illegal? I like Latino people, and culture as a whole. But, when i go to Latin countries, I respect their government and follow the appropriate protocol to visit or work there. The illegals are intoxicated with the American dollar, they care little of disrupting American communities. Many are misguided, they should demand there rights at the capitals in their countries. What Latin country would allow 12 million gringoes to remain illegally? Bring them out of the shadows, rip them out by the roots and arrest them. All other laws are enforced. Send a message that America isn't to be occupied by defient, subversive, criminals.Whose illegal presence is criminal. I have compassion on the poor, but they've all got to go. And to Americas elected officials, I know your short sighted from your ivory towers and country clubs. But,you were elected to represent Americans, not illegal invaders. Have a nice day. And, to the clergy Who condone this illegal invasion, you are supposed to obey the law of the magistrates. NO LEGAL NO STAY- those who are legal, welcome to America.

Either way that it is done it needs to start now. All cities and counties in Virginia need to get on board, to send a message to Washington, "WE THE PEOPLE" are fed up with illegal immigration.

I'm thrilled to hear this Andy. I'm also thrilled to hear that it's likely that there's yet another vote on the council in support of participation in this program. If the details can get hashed out, and I'm pretty sure they can if everybody works together, Manassas City is going to soon move into the "win" column on this issue really soon.

Oh, I expect that Andy Harrover will be in supprt.

One possible alternative that I think deserves looking into is not training the actual officers on the street but those who operate the Jail. Mecklenburg is doing things this way and, given the "Shared Services" arrangement that Manassas has with PWC and MP, I think it makes a lot of sense for this area as well. I suspect an arrangement like that would also alleviate many of the concerns that the individual chiefs have.

A major challenge that cannot be dismissed lightly is what to do with individuals until ICE comes to get them. The current jail is overcrowded and we have something on the order of 100 prisoners spread from here to southside because of it. Not saying it is a deal killer but something we need to figure out.

One other warning: From what little I know, this doesn't appear to be the kind of thing that happens overnight. The training alone is 5 weeks long.

Linkage for M'burg: http://tinyurl.com/htow9 (yes, it's wapo but it's all I could find quickly..:)
