Jeanette Rishell, Unity in the Community and the EZLN

John Steinbach, former Unity In The Community Chairman, with Mexicanos Sin Fronteras activists at Manassas City Hall protest
On January 9th, an assortment of activist groups descended on Manassas City Hall to protest an overcrowding ordinance. There has never been an account of how all of these organizations came together, and the degree to which they […]

Haymarket Citizen Website Takedown?
20 September 2006 | Blogs, Prince William County | 4 Comments
I’ve noticed that for at least the past week the website TownOfHaymarket.info is down. I’ve tried to contact the webmaster and domain owner several times, and even sent a message to their web hosting service, but haven’t gotten any response.
This website has been very critical of Mayor Pam Stutz and the Chief of Police, […]

Feder And Fig Leaves
20 September 2006 | US Congress | 2 Comments
Judy Feder’s campaign has decided to take Frank Wolf to task recently for voting against legislation which would have established a database of the earmarks established through the appropriations process and identified the legislators who proposed those earmarks. At first glance, this argument would have merit, and to someone who has no legislative experience […]
A Surprising Blogger
19 September 2006 | Jeanette Rishell | Comments Off
I wouldn’t have imagined that Jeanette “Moonfruit” Rishell was a contributor on a blog. Fascinating. Unfortunately it hasn’t been very busy, as it looks like their discussions would really be interesting to read.
The consumerism and population control discussions would have probably been very enlightening.
Lies from VoteVets.org
19 September 2006 | US Senate | 6 Comments
I took a little time today to dig around the references that were supplied in regards to this VoteVets body armor ad and to other allegations that Senator George Allen is somehow in against the idea of providing adequate equipment to American servicemembers in combat zones. Not surprisingly, what has been promoted by the Democrats […]
The Beef On Body Armor
19 September 2006 | US Senate | Comments Off
I’ve seen the ad from VoteVets.org regarding the body armor supposedly selected and have been scratching my head ever since. Now the VB Dems post an article on the topic which talks about this (with the pretty ridiculous assertion that the only reason our forces don’t have better body armor is a vote by George […]
I Can’t Believe I Missed This
18 September 2006 | Humor & Satire, Prince William County | 7 Comments
I was completely unaware that former Chairman of the Board of County Supervisors Sean Connaughton passed away, and was stunned when I read this from the Potomac News:
The board will vote on whether to name the McCoart Area Community Plaza after former board chairman Sean T. Connaughton.
The resolution shows that Connaughton was inspired by the […]

At Least This Is Consistent
18 September 2006 | US Senate | 3 Comments
Riley has dug up a fascinating LA Times piece today over at the A-Team where Jim Webb apparently was terribly concerned about what might happen to our servicemembers during the first gulf war if we attacked Saddam’s forces in Kuwait:
James Webb, a former Navy secretary in the Reagan Administration, told the Senate Armed Service Committee […]

John Louis Just Couldn’t Wait
18 September 2006 | Manassas City | 1 Comment
Tony and Leslie Kostelecky have stepped down from their positions on the Manassas City Republican Committee because their baby just couldn’t wait to get out for some reason. I guess he’s just eager to join the fight for our Republican candidates in Manassas.
John Louis was born on September 4th at 27 weeks gestation and […]

In Case You Still Needed A Reason…
18 September 2006 | US Senate | 6 Comments
I see our friends over at NLS are singing the praises of Senator John Warner for his disgraceful behavior last week, where he once again joined hands with liberals and actively worked to harm our nation. This time it involved protecting detained terrorists, who are illegal combatants under the Geneva Conventions and thus not subject […]

About Moonfruit
17 September 2006 | Jeanette Rishell, Humor & Satire | 2 Comments
Recently a comment on Shaun Kenney’s website complained about our use of the term “Moonfruit” which we have used as a nickname for the Democratic nominee for the 50th District, House of Delegates, Ms. Jeanette Rishell.
Shaun,
You have a good point about those bloggers who constantly refer to George Allen as “Felix” and mangle Dick Wadhams’ […]
Rishell Pads Her Finance Report
17 September 2006 | Jeanette Rishell, 50th HOD District | 8 Comments
Jeanette Rishell’s campaign finance disclosure form should be used as a case study by future candidates. It is perhaps the best example of a padded campaign finance report I have ever seen.
On the surface, it looks like Rishell is doing well. She has raised just under $50,000 to Jackson Miller’s $65,000. Not bad.
But […]

September Finance Reports Are Posted
16 September 2006 | Jeanette Rishell, 50th HOD District | 1 Comment
The campaign finance reports covering July and August for Jackson Miller and Jeanette Rishell have been posted on the SBE website, and provide few surprises. Excluding the non-cash “in-kind” contributions which are sometimes used to inflate these reports, Miller is still outraising Rishell, but by a fairly narrow margin during this period of 24,831 to […]

We Should Wait No Longer
16 September 2006 | Zapatistas, Manassas City, Prince William County | 1 Comment
In January, a group of illegal immigrant activists descended on the Manassas City Hall and protested a proposed overcrowding ordinance. Under that pressure, and pressure from the ACLU the Manassas City Council relented and rescinded the ordinance. And now, concerned about the impact of the ACLU bringing litigation and the scrutiny of the US Department […]

Craig Vitter runs Craig’s Musings, a great site that’s one of the best independent or nonpartisan blogs in Virginia, and the only one of this flavor in Prince William County. Because of that he’s scored some excellent liveblogs that really should have garnered more attention than they have. Recently, Jeanette “Moonfruit” Rishell did a liveblog […]

E-Voting From An IT Perspective
14 September 2006 | Virginia Politics | 8 Comments
Occasionally an article pops up in the Virginia blogosphere regarding electronic voting systems, and a recent post from the Richmond War Room makes me feel it’s time to weigh in here and step a bit outside of my traditional narrow focus on local politial issues. I’m one of those few political bloggers who […]

Official: PWC BOCS Special Election Nov. 7th

Using a little bit of creative decision-making, a writ for a Special Election for the chairman of the Board of County Supervisors has been issued, and the election will be held on November 7th after all, according to the Potomac News. Many of us are glad to see this happen, as it will reduce […]
