It Must Be a Parallel Dimension
By Greg L | 7 October 2006 | Blogs | 6 Comments
The ever entertaining Mimi Schaeffer (aka “Howling Latina”) takes Republican bloggers to task today with the following:
During the last few days, radical conservative bloggers have been ranting and raving because [Jim] Webb referenced in his text one of the most heralded authors of a cannon used by sociologists, economists, rhetoricians, political scientists and other social scientists.
These dunces apparently have never heard the notion that cannons transcend time and space; and are useful to social theorists, scientists and serious observers of modern culture and government because they hold underlying “truths” that are evident in contemporary societies.
To whom is she referring? Maybe it’s Martin Luther King, or Ghandi, or maybe even John Dewey or Richard Rorty? No, these folks wrote things we actually look at and critically evaluate today. Ms. Schaeffer is referring, in every way possible except by mentioning his name, to none other than Karl Marx. You know they guy — he came up with an idea, and each of those (see Stalin, Mao, etc) who tried to implement that idea ended up murdering millions of their own citizens.
Only in some strange parallel dimension could anyone be seriously considering the merits of the writings of Karl Marx and calling those who have observed the horrid tragedy of communism ‘dunces’.

I wonder who’s more of a dunce: the people she’s criticizing, or someone who doesn’t know the difference between a weapon of war and a “canon”?
Hmm, there is a certain, perhaps inadvertent, semantic validity to that usage. Marxism can correctly be decribed as a weapon wielded against those subjected to it — such as the Cuban people, for example.
This is among the most ignorant and idiotic posts I’ve ever seen.
honestly, you and Mr. Young are half-educated morons.
So, is Feder putting all her hopes on a huge margin in Loudoun and Western Fairfax, and writing off the edge jurisdictions in the 10th that have voted Republican conservative for thirty years and Byrd Machine conservative for generations prior to that?
“Half-educated”?!?!? Maybe if I didn’t understand how Marx and Engels lead inexorably to Mao and Stalin, but … Oops! … that’s Mimi.
Good thing truth-in-advertising doesn’t apply to blogs. “Howling Idiot” would be much more appropriate.
I recall reading Marx/Engels “Communist Manifesto” in my Political Philosophy class in college. I also recall that when the Berlin Wall fell and communism collapsed, I tossed my copy of it down the sewer where it belonged as it had been judged by those who had been enslaved under its doctrine.
