Positions on 287(g) Program: 50th HOD Race
By Greg L | 18 October 2006 | Jeanette Rishell, 50th HOD District | No Comments
At last night’s debate, both candidates made clear stands regarding state participation in the 287(g) Program which would allow police officers to detain and initiate the process for deportation of any illegal immigrants encountered during the normal course of their law enfocement duties. Jackson Miller is predictably for it. And Jeanette Rishell, perhaps predictably is not.
While Jeanette Rishell is eager to bring down a hammer blow on businesses who are found to have employed an illegal alien with a $25,000 fine on the first offense, or to whack a property owner if a tenant violates a lease and overcrowds a property, she is utterly opposed to holding the actual illegal immigrant accountable for their violation of the law. No, she wants those folks to be allowed to attend publicly supported universities , and have day laborer centers where they can find a job. But if we catch one of them driving while intoxicated, without a license, after having been involved in a hit-and-run, we let those folks go on their merry way after they pay their fine.
I’ve heard from plenty of residents in the 50th District who have horror stories involving illegal aliens who have committed offenses and were not only allowed to go free, but who in their view received a lighter punishment than they themselves would have expected had they done the same thing. 50th District residents firmly support the idea of giving law enforcement the tools they need in order to ensure the removal of criminal illegal aliens from our communities. Jeanette Rishell does not.
If you’re one of the majority of residents within the 50th District who believe that illegal immigration is a top concern, you choice could not be more clear on November 7th.
