A Strange Endorsement For Pandak

By Greg L | 20 October 2006 | Prince William County | 4 Comments

Riley over at Virtucon was first to the keyboard regarding this bizarre endorsement of Sharon Pandak by the Director of Business Development at S. W. Rogers Company. S. W. Rogers is one of the largest employers in the county, a member of the Heavy Construction Contractors Association and not surprisingly one of the largest homebuilders in Prince William County.

Dear Friends, Associates, & Industry Leaders;

On November 7, 2006 at a Special Election, Prince William Co. will select a New County Chairman of the Board of Supervisors.

In my opinion Sharon Pandak, ( www.sharonpandak.com), is candidate of choice. Sharon is a former County Attorney in Prince William. She is Knowledgeable, Trustworthy, Fair & Open-Minded. Even though she will not always agree with the Industry position, she will give it an objective opportunity to be presented & heard. In fact, Sharon’s approach to leading the County is to create a level playing field that allows all elements of the community to participate, equally. After talking with her and attending forums, I’m totally convinced that Sharon is the superior candidate. Based on the preceding & for the following reasons I will be supporting The Sharon Pandak Campaign and doing ANYTHING I can to help her get ELECTED.

***My personal opinion:
Sharon’s opponent has literally ATTACKED the Home Building & Real Estate Industry by trying to raise the Proffers by $9,000. to $47,000., after telling us that he wouldn’t do it. He LIED to us & at every turn he has Criticized, Condemned & Complained publicly that our industry doesn’t pay its way. He has said that He will STOP the Out of Control Growth we have created & that he will Shut the Door on Residential Development.

He states that WE have caused the Congestion on the roads & that We don’t build ANY INFRASTRUCTURE or PAY ENOUGH toward those improvements. In his description, WE are the SCUM of the Earth & He will make us Pay More & Higher Proffers plus add Open Space and Historic landmark fees to the mix of proffers they extort from us.

Corey Stewart is a Revengeful, Untrustworthy, & an Unbelievably Contradictory person. He doesn’t deserve the job & would only injure us & the entire County, if he gets it. I urge you to support Sharon with your contributions and help to get out the vote.

Sincerely,

Roy Beckner

I contacted Mr. Beckner in order to confirm that he actually sent this email, and he responded with this:

It is my E-Mail & I believe very strongly that Corey Stewart is the wrong candidate for the job & Prince William Co. I did not expect my message to get such wide circulation however, I am aware that I took that chance when I sent it to so many people. I’m generally not so agitated but, I couldn’t use an olive branch in this instance.

So with the tinniest political tin ear that may have ever hampered an aspiring political activist, Mr. Roy Beckner has delivered what may just be the most compelling reason to elect Corey Stewart imaginable. Being “developer-friendly” doesn’t quite hold the same political allure in Prince William County that it may once have had. perhaps more damning, according to Mr. Beckner, it certainly appears that Corey Stewart is expected to be successful in bringing residential growth under control if he is elected and will ensure that infrastructure requirements won’t be evaded or ignored. The hysterical tenor of his message only helps to drive that message home, and adds a touch of the pathetic. This letter was so tremendously bad I had strong concerns about it’s authenticity and held this story for about a day in order to get some confirmation.  But I guess sometimes you just can’t make stuff like this up.

It looks like Not Larry Sabato was correct when it mentioned that developer money was going to be directed towards the Pandak campaign, possibly flowing through Gerry Connoly’s campaign fund. Sharon Pandak, who stilll can’t seem to shake the “bobblehead” thing with her latest mailer, should be very concerned.

Greg, the Connolly rumor so far has proven to be a lot of hot air. Look at the Potomac News today on fundraising for the two candidates. Where is the big money going into the Pandak campaign? You think if any serious sums of money were getting pumped into the campaign it wouldn’t stand out?

Sure developers are going to turn away from Stewart and support Pandak. That should be obvious. The Connolly rumor is a pretty major attack though and without any kind of evidence it strikes me as something started by pro-Stewart supporters to tag Pandak as some kind of lackey for developers. Remember that politicians on both sides of the aisles, and their supporters, are not above using the blogs to do their dirty work.

One developer’s letter does not a conspiracy make.

Perhaps the developers aren’t putting the money where their mouths are, realizing that Pandak is a loser and hope to be able to work with Corey at least to some extent after the election.

Corey Stewart would be a RINO extraordinaire in Loudoun County! At least he and Bob Marshall have some sense when it comes to moderating development.

Corey has attacked the building industry at all turns. He does not seem to want to lay any fault with the BOS or planners who approved so many projects over the years.
I have met with both Corey and Sharon to discuss issues of development and actually find Sharon much more thoughtful on the subject.
I support Corey, but he needs to understand 31% of the PW economy can be attributed to the Real Estate and Building industries.
