Manassas Gets Mobbed
By Greg L | 24 October 2006 | Manassas City, US Senate, 50th HOD District | 5 Comments
Senator George Allen’s visit to the Manassas GOP Headquarters today got mobbed by the press, and drew attention from local media such as WTOP, and also some surprising out-of-towners such as the Houston Chronicle and a French newspaper. Allen spoke briefly with the press before visiting local businesses with Jackson Miller for about an hour.
The Manassas Park VRE station was the site of a strange coincidence as both Jackson Miller and Jeanette Rishell showed up at about 5:30AM to talk with commuters. Jeanette Rishell’s team sported hard hats (huh?) and passed out a mailer to a subdued reception, while Jackson gave out coffee and doughnuts with his literature. On a pretty cold Tuesday morning, Jackson Miller was a pretty popular guy.
Jeanette Rishell’s campaign team has been getting some assistance from the Manassas City Republican Committee which has been calling to tell them when they put signs up on private property without consent of the owner, or when they place signs on public property illegally. Given the recent instances of campaign sign theft and vandalism which has plagued Republican candidates and initiatives, the Republicans are making an extra effort to calm the local political environment and ensure that the rules are followed. Letting the Jeanette Rishell campaign know about problems rather than reporting them to authorities helps make sure that passionate Republicans don’t start tearing down unlawfully placed signs, an act which might make the Rishell campaign believe they’re getting reprisals.
Class acts, all around. Manassas should be proud.
UPDATE: My source tells me that Rishell’s folks were wearing train engineer hats, not hard hats. It must have looked really goofy.

It did not look goofy, it looked fine. Can’t you ever go more than three seconds without hurling an insult.
Sorry, I’m not that adventurous when it comes to headgear.
I saw them while waiting for my train. There is a very clear difference between the candidates. Miller looks like a delegate. He was standing there in a suit and tie, cheerful and upbeat. The cold didn’t seem to bother him. He warmly greeted commuters, offering them hot coffee and dunkin donuts. He chatted with me regarding the new VRE parking structure that he helped get approved as a Manassas City Councilman. His campaign workers were also repectfully dressed, and were equally warm and courteous. Rishell, on the otherhand, looked like she was waiting for a bus. She looked cold. She was dressed like she was headed to the store for milk and bread. She looked tired. She looked uncomfortable. She chased me down, and handed me her mail piece. Her campaign workers looked downright silly in their VRE engineer hats. I thought they were going to hand me a train schedule. Are we supposed to take these people seriously?
Greg,
Just to set the record straight, Jackson and his volunteers (including me) were at the VRE at 5:00 am. If I’m going to do crazy things on behalf of my candidate, I want to get the proper credit for it. We were at the Manassas Park VRE this morning doing the same thing, at the same time. Ms. Rishell did not join us this time.
Perhaps those hats were left over from the Manassas train festival earlier this year. Rishell was pretty goofy at that, too.
