MJM On City Council’s Work Session

By Greg L | 31 October 2006 | Manassas City | 4 Comments

The Manassas Journal-Messenger published an article by Alex Granados today regarding yesterday’s City Council action to engage with the Department of Homeland Security and establish a Memorandum Of Understanding with ICE and participate in the Section 287(g) program. The article gives a good blow-by-blow of how the work session went. Here’s an excerpt:

[Jackson] Miller’s motion would have Manassas work with Prince William County, Manassas Park and the jail to come up with a memorandum of understanding between the the Prince William-Manassas Regional Jail Board and the Department of Homeland Security, as Skinner, Parrish and Randolph wanted.

The Department of Homeland Security oversees ICE.

If Prince William County does not move forward with the proposal or if it were to remain undecided until Jan. 30, 2007, then Manassas would create a memorandum of understanding with the Department of Homeland Security for ICE training for local officers.

Too bad Alex didn’t stay for the Town Hall that followed this work session and have a chance to see the fireworks. I’m sure he would have been amused.

Now, why would the MJM want to report on the number of people that spoke in favor of the program? That would not support their agenda, and would also make it harder for them to keep implaying those that are against illegal immigration are racists and bigots, since it would be hard to believe the majority of the Citizens of the City are racists.

I met with the owners of a Hispanic business yesterday, and even they thought this was a good idea!

I’ve talked to more than a few myself, and plenty of latinos are upset that criminal aliens are giving them a bad name. They understandably don’t like lawlessness and gang activity any more than we do.

Legal immigrants are even more in the crosshairs than non-immigrants. This is their fight, too.

I wish I had been there, but I had to support my students in the Osbourn Homecoming football game. By the way they won! 42 to 21 They are 8 and 0!!!!!

I am so glad to see something is going to be done about the illegal immigration around here. A lot more needs to happen but this is a good first step.
