Delegate McQuigg Starts Running

By Greg L | 13 November 2006 | 51st HOD District | 3 Comments

Delegate Michele McQuigg has sent out an invitation for a fundraiser to be held on November 20th at the Occoquan Inn with Congressman Tom Davis. After hearing that she wanted to be closer to home this summer, this is a big shift.

While Michele McQuigg is not what I would consider a real Reagan-style conservative, she is a compelling candidate in the Occoquan District with loyal supporters and it would be really tough for a Democrat to beat her. Her support of the Delegate Albo’s transportation funding scheme will probably play fairly well with the local electorate and will steal an issue from any democrat who would challenge her. As long as there’s no challenge from the right (unlikely), a competent race by Delegate McQuigg will end up being a relatively easy victory in a General Election.

This early campaign start definitely puts to bed any notion Delegate McQuigg is going to give up her seat and run for something more local. Such an early start definitely looks like the actions of someone motivated to win this seat, not someone looking for a job change. That should be good news to Prince William Republicans.

UPDATE: It’s clear from the announcement that this is for the 51st House of Delegates District:

Congressman Tom Davis & host Committee cordially invite you to a special evening in support of

Delegate Michele McQuigg’s re-election Campaign to the Virginia House of Delegates
on November 20,  2006  6:30 – 8:00 p.m.
at the historic Occoquan Inn ~ The Jefferson Room
301 Mill Street, Occoquan, Virginia

Oops. Yep, guess this kind of goes against your theory she wasn’t running.

Doesn’t mean she won’t change her mind, but I imagine this is a good sign she’s planning on winning that seat again, and wants to make it clear early to discourage another strong challenge.

The money being raised isn’t for her clerk race?

    Subject: Swigging McQuigg?

Michele McQuigg’s performance as “Madam Chairman” in the Friday, December 1, 2006, 8:30 a.m., House Room C, General Assembly Building, House Committee for Courts of Justice & Senate Committee for Courts of Justice, JUDICIAL INTERVIEWS for incumbent judges standing for re-election in the 2007 Session was frightful. Did McQuigg perhaps enjoy one too many swigs the night before? I wondered. It is time for Virginia’s 51st to seriously consider new leadership. To the people of District 51, I say YOU ARE NOT IN GOOD HANDS.
