Who Is The Better Republican Activist?

The political blogosphere has quite a few bloggers who take time away from the keyboard in order to work in the trenches to support campaigns. I’m one of them, and on the other side of the aisle Mimi Schaeffer, aka “Howling Latina” is another. From the results of last week’s election results, which one of us ended up being the most effective Republican activist in our own voting precincts?
In my precinct (Stonewall), George Allen got 53.5% of the votes, and the Marriage Amendment came in at 65.5%. In Ms. Schaeffer’s precinct (Casanova), George Allen polled 53.6%, and the Marriage Amendment got 64.2%. That puts me up 1.3% on the Marriage Amendment but down by 0.1% on George Allen’s race. That’s awfully close, especially when you consider that Ms. Schaeffer travelled all the way to Dean precinct in Manassas on election day in order to entertain voters with her fancy dancing moves, while I stayed on home turf and worked at Stonewall for almost the entire day. Had she worked her home precinct, it’s possible that she could have beat me.
For a Democrat, Mimi Schaeffer is a pretty formidable Republican activist and turned in quite an effort in support of George Allen and the Marriage Amendment in Casanova precinct. This year’s efforts nearly put her over the top, but I get the victory. She’s got her neighbors voting Republican by wide margins, and will be really tough to beat next year.

I was at Dean for a little bit and saw Howling Latina hard at work. She worked hard! Although when an adult wouldn’t take her literature she went after their kids, she wanted to get rid of it that much.
