Manassas City Council Appointment Schedule

By Greg L | 28 November 2006 | Manassas City | 3 Comments

Reader AndyH has been kind enough to provide us with the schedule for candidates for appointment to fill out the term of Delegate-Elect Jackson Miller on the city council from tonight’s meeting. I’m pretty certain his information is accurate.

Resumes and/or letters of interest are due by 5PM on December 18th, likely at City Hall. On January 3rd there will be a public meeting, and on January 22nd an appointment will be made. In addition to Maureen Wood and Sheryl Bass there will likely be several other applications, some serious and perhaps some not so much.

I would expect an official announcement to be issued soon, which will detail the requirements for prospective candidates.

Hopefully our Republican controlled Council will be thinking 2008 when they make the apointment. Maureen is a very nice lady and a true conservative. Unfortunately, she has run unsuccessfully once or twice as an independent and once as a Republican. Steve Smith is a fine individual, but of late seems to be acting as if he doesn’t want a mass meeting endorsement. Based on this, I believe our council needs to be sure they appoint a strong candidate (who is is electable) now, so we’re not in a bind running two perceived rookies in 2008. Continuing on this, we now have one of the most junior Councils in some time, is Maureen the only Republican interested?? It would be an embarassment if only Maureen applies.
