Jackson Miller Assigned to Committees - Corrected

By Greg L | 29 November 2006 | 50th HOD District | 2 Comments

I got a tip tonight that the General Assembly website has been updated, and it reports that Jackson Miller has been assigned to the Militia, Police and Public Safety Committee where he will join Delegate Lingamfelter. He was also assigned to Science and Technology, where he will join Delegate Marshall.

It’s only one vote, but it’s a vote we’ll like. Too many good bills never make it out of that committee, and perhaps a few more now will.

VCDL members must be absolutely thrilled. I am.

UPDATE: There are two Delegate Miller’s in the House of Delegates, Paula Miller and now Jackson Miller.  The committee assignments I mentioned are for Delegate Paula Miller, who is decidedly not a conservative nor very helpful on Second Amendment issues.  I’ve been informed that this page from the House of Delegates website shows that Jackson Miller has been assigned to Privileges & Elections, and Science & Technology.

This is not at all the good news I was expecting.  If Delegate Jackson Miller is not qualified for Militia & Police, there’s damned few delegates assigned to that committee who deserve to be there.  There are inevitably other factors which affect committee assignments, but to pass up this opportunity to put someone so clearly qualified on the committee that is most suited to his talents seems to be a terrible error.

I’m gonna raise hell if this happens again next year.

I predict BIG things from Jackson Miller, we could be watching the beginning of a long and illustrious career. His election could be a blueprint on how Republicans can keep winning in Northern Virginia.

You are being a bit harsh here. Del. Miller currently sits at the absolute bottom of the totem poll in terms of seniority. It takes a few years for freshmen to get on good committees. He will get there soon enough.

Until then, Miller can work to strengthen Virginia’s high-tech community and education system from the Science and Technology Committee. Given the importance of technology to the Manassas area, this is not a bad fit.

I hope he continues to look into using technology to improve our transportation system. There are some great ideas out there that just need a little push to become practical. Miller is imaginative enough to see technology’s potential and do some impressive things in the next few years.
