A Bloggy Christmas To You Too

By Greg L | 26 December 2006 | Blogs | 9 Comments

It’s nice to see while I’m visiting my folks for the holdays that the Virginia blogosphere can keep with the spirit of Christmas for perhaps an hour or so. In checking in today, I notice that a little controversy has erupted regarding Waldo’s removal of a blog from his aggregator.

It sort of reminds me when I inquired with Waldo about his terms of use for VPB after a series of postings by a rather infamous troll that involved blatant lies and petty harassment. At that time, Waldo seemed to think that it was better to not engage in censorship, and I understood his rationale. This latest issue would seem to indicate he’s softened his stance a bit, and I’m looking forward to seeing where all of this will eventually land. Does the Virginia blogosphere get it’s first part-time babysitter? Perhaps that would be a good thing. Or perhaps not.

Waldo is of course free to restrict those blogs he wants to aggregate in any way he chooses, regardless of whether I think he’s doing it fairly or not. Nothing is stopping anyone else from setting up their own aggregator, putting in the substantial hours necessary to tune and tweak the site as well as doing what it takes to keep it available and reliable. Don’t like how he’s doing it? Do it yourself, better. I dare ya.

I’m going to have to start covering the Dog’s work now that his reach is a little shorter, though. It’s good stuff, and I like the concept of making sure Americans know exactly who it is they’re dealing with. Even when it’s not prettty, it’s still the truth, and a tough truth we ignore at our own peril.

Well said Greg, “We ignore the Truth at our Own Peril”.

and the truth of the matter here is that Waldo is playing ‘editor’ of the VA Political Blogs along the same lines as the Liberal MSM plays. You submit a letter to the editor, and they chose if, and when they will publish it.

Waldo is following the pattern that has been foisted upon us by the MSM in showing photos of 9-11. They know it is not to their political advantage to show these shots, and will bedevil a Conservative candidate if they dare do it…

We must play by there rules everytime, or get called named, like bigoted, xenophobic, etc.

Quit whining and start an aggregator STD. You do have an option.

I for one am grateful that I wasn’t assaulted by the photo of a beheaded man while scrolling thru the aggregator. The resulting vomit would probably never come out of my keyboard.

Glad you are here, and not defending our interests abroad, doesn’t sound like your kind of work…

Sure wish you would think of our national interests though, and not just those of a certain left of center political party…

I am not left of center STD.

You though are FAR FAR FAR to the right of center.

And yes it is good I am not in Iraq. Along with about 300 million Americans, I am not there.

Why aren’t you there? Why isn’t Kilo there? Why isn’t SWAC Girl there? Why isn’t Shaun Kenney there?

There are plenty of us who support the war who can’t look at a beheading while eating Cap’n Crunch. And we shouldn’t have to. At least if there were a warning, it could be avoided.

It’s not just grizzled men (and butch-y girls) who read that aggregator. Grandmothers and kids read it too.

Can I quote you on that :-)

Dude, he showed a bunch of Muslims beheading an American. If CNN had done that you all would be crying foul at those blasted moonbats.

This isn’t CNN, this is the somewhat wild world of blogging. Perhaps Dog’s post was in poor taste. It’s not something I would have considered doing at that moment in time, but it’s certainly not something that we shouldn’t see. It’s important to understand what our enemies intend to do to us.

I think it’s telling what this first selective instance of delisting from VPB is all about. Is it Mr. Bouchillon calling Maureen Wood a member of the KKK? Is it a left-leaning blog referring to a member of the house of delegates as “Sodomy Bob?” No, it’s something which actually has debateable merit, and posited by the right.

Since this rubicon is crossed, I wonder if it’ll be applied to the left. I’m not holding my breath.

Greg, how hard would it be to set up another aggregator, maybe named something similar to the other one but different in some small way, and let it run free? Is it a hard thing to do?

I don’t even do RSS feeds, so I have no idea what you would do. Waldo has posted contradictory information, sometimes saying the aggregator runs itself, other times suggesting it was a hard, odious task to do that he provides out of the kindness of his heart.
