Porta To Sit Out?
By Greg L | 1 January 2007 | PWCDC, 51st HOD District | No Comments
I’ve received credible second-hand information that Earnie Porta, Mayor of the Town of Occoquan and most likely Democratic nominee for the 51st HOD is telling people that he does not intend to run for the House of Delegates. This is a surprising development, as there isn’t much in the way of experienced Democratic candidates for House of Delegates in Prince William County. If Porta sits out, there aren’t a lot of alternative Democratic candidates.
Earnie Porta was a very visible spokesman in opposition to the Marriage Amendment and made some rather intemperate comments in regard to the initiative this summer. His embrace of the hard-left activists in Prince William County have earned him high status within the PWCDC, but this would probably not help much in a general election. Or is there another prize that Porta wants to focus on?
UPDATE: I’ve received confirmation on this, and it’s driving the PWCDC absolutely nuts. Porta has been under enormous pressure to run for House of Delegates, and turning this down will make it very difficult for the Democrats to field a somewhat credible candidate.
