I'm just trying to keep threads on-topic and cut down on the number of battles royale that I've seen happen elsewhere when two commentors start duking it out in a thread that wasn't related to them in the first place. You've got a place to engage in that debate at your own site, and if it's really that important for you to speak on this you have every opportunity to do so there.

I don't agree with your characterization of what happened in the Harry Parrish/Steve Chapman primary and have found Anke to be very helpful in rooting out the real stories behind the scenes just as I've enjoyed working with you on other stories. You are both committed to quality representative government, the protection of our communities, fiscal responsibility and the preservation of freedom. Your differences can be summed up in regards to one specific candidate, and on everything else you seem to be in perfect accord.

Meanwhile, an important story regarding the resignation of the chairman of the PWC Democratic Committee has now devolved into the relative merits of Anke Cheney versus James Young. Although I like you both, neither of you are more newsworthy or have more impact on the electorate than what this discussion initially regarded.

I am now closing comments on this thread. It is deader than a three day old fish because of this silliness.

Damn it, Greg! Perhaps you can ignore ethics, but I can't, and I won't. And I have no doubt that you will delete --- as you have previously done --- anything that remotely references here sleazy behavior as Harry Parrish's primary campaign manager, and here CONFESSED role in bringing since-dismissed criminal charges against Chapman. As far as I am concerned, someone who engages in that type of behavior has a far more natural home in the Democrat Party.

It causes one to wonder whether your new-found friend AWCheney (who is virtually persona non grata in the GOP) is only such because she shares your opinion of Steve Chapman.

James,

That's "on the same side as YOU", at least in the important stuff. I know you both. I respect you both. Under some other circumstances the two of you would probably be natural allies.

Heck, the two of us worked through the rough spots. I can hold out hope that someday that will happen with you two as well. Just imagine if the real opposition had to deal with the focused efforts of you both, rather than benefiting from your distractions with each other.

That AWCheney is "essentially on the same side in just about every battle" should be enough to give anyone pause.

Darn. At some point the two of you are going to figure out that you're essentially on the same side in just about every battle. Over time my appreciation for James has grown and we've learned how we can work together on a lot of issues, and that we can disagree sometimes and still maintain mutual respect, even though we've had some really rough patches.

Perhaps someday.

Oh, c'mon, Greg! We all got a chuckle out of the suggestion that you are anything BUT biased!

Frankly, the first thing I knew about an author who complained about my bias as an OPINION columnist was that the person was probably too stupid to have written the letter himself.

Matt, come on over to the GOP side. If you want to be part of a real team, come join ours. You could be part of the "moderate wing" of the GOP!

It would be nice if anon wasn't such a coward and would use their real name.

I don't think I would have won that race because I don't have the luxury of being able to be unemployed for a long period in order to do what needs to be done to beat someone like Frederick. I have a full time job and a full time family to worry about. And I know for sure that DPVA would not have given me the same kind of money they gave Hilda.

As far as my campaign management, I work for people like Chuck Feldbush and Jeanette Rishell because no one else will help them. I provided both with basic guidance just to make sure their campaigns did something and didn't sit idle. DPVA only chooses to help a small percentage of campaigns each year and if it wasn't for people like me helping out challengers in very Republican districts we would never field more than a half dozen challengers each year.

With little money and basically zero help from state and local parties, I helped Chuck and Jeanette far exceed Democratic performance in their districts. They weren't wins, but they did much better than expected because I took an interest in helping them out. I wish more people would do the same instead of focusing on only the big name races.

I think Matt's real point is that the Democrats would have won that seat if only we'd let him run instead of Hilda. Because as we all know from his track record as a campaign manager in VA House of Delegates races, he's one of the best political minds in PWC.

Gotta disagree with you, James W. Democrat window-dressing is nice but had Hilda actually given Frederick any semblance of a competing ground game, the 2005 squeaker would have gone her way. I know she is getting on in years and Jeff works doors like a madman but he can be beaten the same way.

"[Barg] would have won [her race against Fredrick] if she would have put in just a little bit of effort instead of relying on the truckload of cash given to her by DPVA and the developer community."

Doubtful. Indeed it was a close race, but she had everything going for her already. A great atomosphere for Democrats. Lots of money. Years of name recognition. Deep roots in the community. Grandmother status (who doesn't like a grandmother?). Yet, she still didn't win. As long as Fredrick keeps getting Democrats voting for him in large numbers (and heck, Democrat office holders endorsing him in droves), he'll keep winning. Remember the Dumfries Town Council and more recently, Gary Friedman's letter to the editor?
