More Press Coverage

By Greg L | 15 February 2007 | Illegal Aliens | 19 Comments

The Manassas Journal-Messenger has an article today talking about my efforts to help facilitate the establishment of a local group which would weigh in on illegal immigration. Apparently they can’t bring themselves to actually mention the name or URL of this website in the article, but given how I’ve been critical of their coverage on some of their stories, I guess it shouldn’t be surprising.

One thing I find annoying in all of this is that of all the stories I’ve covered, they and the Washington Post seemed most interested in me setting up a small meeting with a few other local residents about illegal aliens. A few people talking in a room is somehow newsworthy. Dave Ruttenberg gets his life ruined by corrupt officials in Manassas Park, and there’s hardly a word. The DPVA committs blatant electoral fraud, and not a peep. Supporters of Democratic candidates threaten the life of a two year old child, and nothing but silence. But mention that some local citizens are sick of the burdens imposed on them by the presence of huge numbers of illegal aliens, and every media outlet seems to put my cell phone number on speed dial. I’d say their priorities may be a little askew here. I’m not important. Some of these stories really, really are.

Well, at least I get to be mentioned in the same article as Dexter Fox from Unity In The Community. And he’s concerned. That’s a real hoot. He really seems to love being concerned about things, and perhaps I can continue to help him with that.

Make sure to drop me a line if you’re interested in participating in this. The next get-together will be in a couple of weeks.

UPDATE: The other side is starting to weigh in with silly posts like this one. I found the picture posted which shows people without coats, supposedly taken outside of the hotel last Saturday evening when the temperature was around twenty degrees, particularly hilarious. They claim it accompanied the Washington Post article, but I doubt even the Post would try to pull something like this.

    Greg,

You should wear the coverage like a badge of honor. The COMpost and the MJM just can’t seem to get there are people who are not racists, bigots, etc that are against illegal immigration. Because the brain trusts of the two papers live in their little liberal worlds they just are not exposed to normal people whose lives are very much impacted by illegal immigration.

Just look how the COMpost has handled the day laborer center issue in Montgomery County, MD, even though the County might be one of the most liberal in the entire Nation, the COMpost still treats those opposed to the center as bigots. The Post also continues to use the tired line the local economy depends on illegal immigration. I wonder if the COMpost also supports shady financial practices by area corporations, since corporations are also very much needed for the local economy. Somehow, though, I don’t think the COMpost would be in favor of law breaking corporations.

As for “Unity” in the Community, it once again proves it is nothing more than a group of far left wackos. To that group diversity and all that is fine as long as that diversity is liberal, and does not express any thought or actions but what is deemed to be politically correct.

    Greg,

I want to thank you for taking the initiative to start the ball rolling on this. Something like this has been needed for a long time in this area. If more Cities and Counties would start to do something, then maybe our elected officials will start listening and do something about illegal immigration.

There are no easy solutions to illegal immigration, but when illegals know there are consequences for breaking the law, they will start to self deport. Self deporting is happening in places where they are making it harder to hide and where they are cracking down on illegal immigration.

Even though Hazelton PA. can not enforce their new ordinances, the illegals are moving away from that Town because they are afraid of what will happen.

Our laws should be enforced no matter WHO is breaking them. When advocates for illegals call Americans who want our immigration laws enforced, bigots and racists it just make us more determined to do something. We know we are not racists. We know that there are immeasurable problems relating to illegal immigration and we want something done. NOW.

    Keep up the good work.

Drink Coors. Coors only supports the S&M Fetish Ball, which although these people are freaks, at least they are American freaks.

If Dexter Fox is concerned about illegal immigration, the rest of us should be scared. Yes we need a grass roots focused effort, in fact the more the merrier. Spending on illegals is out of control throughout the area. Why do we continue to pander to the ESOL community? Show me where the law says we have to spend tax money on illegals at all; education, emergency health care, gang intervention, you name it. Manassas and Manassas Park will continue to have unsufferable high taxes and depressed real estate values until illegal immigration and over crowding are addressed.

In response to people who would opine that the above is a bigotted, I would say that I resent all kinds of social welfare entitlement programs. Similarly, I resent the way the majority of money I pay the Commonwealth of VA goes to southern VA. However, I can at least tolerate these programs when they benefit our citizens. Bottom line, I’m tired of paying others bills through my high taxes, and want to start with cutting off people who are legal residents of other countries illegally residing in my country. US citizens taxes should be used to support the health, education welfare and defense of US citizens.

Support Greg and get involved! Blogging is easy. Take action. Boycott businesses who hire and pander to the illegals. Seriously, don’t hire that illegal guy to cut your grass or paint your house just because you got a deal. I know several prominent people who speak out on illegal immigration but are hiring illegals for odd jobs all the time. I think that’s two faced. Finally, write your Federal, State and local politicians. Let them you vote and are angry.

Remember, United We Stand, Divided We Fall. Illegal immigration is dividing our country.

I’m sure that you also meant to include those immigrants on a path to citizenship (legal aliens) in that. They are injured by all this as much as we, if not more, because of automatic guilt by association

Long-Time: The Feds mandate that the schools educate residents regardless of immigration status. The schools aren’t allowed to ask about one’s immigration status. I can’t show you the law but I do know that it’s there.

This is simply one in a long line of unfunded mandates that the State and Federal government like to pile on localities. It’s stuff that they require we do but they don’t want to pay for it. It usually starts off as a “block grant” that is supposed to cover the cost but the value of the grant normally declines over time or is eliminated. This is the case with ESOL education which started in the 60’s. The original law required that the Feds pay for the program but funding was eliminated within 6 or so years although the requirement remained.

This and state government eliminating taxes that cut local budgets w/o their agreement are probably the two biggest financial problems for local governments. Ask anyone that has been in local government for a number of years about “unfunded mandates” and watch a normally reasonable person turn into a raving lunatic.

Leave it to the MJM. They give great coverage on this to you Greg, but who do they go to for opposing comment? Dexter Fox. If you have ever spoken with Fox, you will see that he epitomizes the liberal elite. His speech is quite pedantic. When he speaks, it’s as if he’s speaking TO you, not with you. He is the perfect leader for Unity in the Community. He’s the consummate guilt-ridden, America hating liberal. How many groups are there in PWC, Manassas and Manassas Park who are pro-illegal, pro-open borders? Plenty. How many groups are in the same area, which are anti-illegal? One. This one. Dexter is concerned? I hope the three fuzzy-faced Frauen who always seem to be around him (you know the ones, sour-pussed women in their 50’s and 60’s, with bobbed hair-cuts), are concerned as well.

What’s he concerned about? He’s concerned that the HOD, and the local govs are finally starting to act. If that weren’t bad enough, now Greg is out the agitating the citizenry to action. How dare you Greg? Agitation is the tool of Unity in the Community, WWP, EZLN! You can’t do that! What scares him is deep down inside, he knows how pissed the citizens of PWC, Manassas and MP are about this (well, maybe not MP, they haven’t a clue). He knows that the tipping point has been reached. 287g, new legislation, and now a local grass roots organization. He knows that his agenda’s days are numbered. He knows that right about the time that his girl Jeanette Rishell is trying once again to snow the voters, this issue will be red hot, and now there will be an actual organization out there opposing her, besides the local GOP unit.

Andy H. The Feds are mandated by the US Constitution to protect the American citizens AND the borders!! Are they doing that?? What if the local municipalities across this nation were to stand up and say “NO, NO MORE, WE’VE HAD ENOUGH” and closed the doors, all the doors to illegal aliens?? Will the Feds put the whole nation under arrest??? Article 4, section 4: “The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a republican form of government, and shall protect each of them against invasion; and on application of the legislature or of the executive (when the legislature cannot be convened) against domestic violence.” We have been invaded and are under assault by those below our nations borders. It is time for all governing bodies to stand with the law of this land and do the right thing without looking at reelections! We could begin in Manassas by having ‘a republican form of government’.

Coors is owned by Molson — a bunch of Canadian hosers, eh. Leave it to the Canadians to subsidize “American freaks” as you put it, Rocky Mountain Beer. It is part of their conspiracy to undermine our nation’s values so they can drop down from the Great White North and steal all our beer.

    Silverfox:

I don’t disagree with your sentiment. Nobody is more irritated than I about the corrosion and/or elimination of our rights guaranteed under the Constitution and the refusal of Uncle Sam to safeguard our borders.

But all of the municipalities aren’t going to stand up together and say anything. While we’re trying to figure out how to contain our own problems, municipalities in MD are building day labor centers.

Those municipalities that do try to find a solution find themselves in a game of brinksmanship. How much are you willing to spend on litigation? In Manassas, we have set aside One MILLION dollars to litigate the legality of our overcrowding ordinance. For a City our size, that’s a sizeable committment. Two cents on the tax rate, as a matter of fact.

I would also point out that our current “republican form of government” at the federal level has presided over this disaster.

Andy, perhaps a Day Labor Center wouldn’t be such a bad idea, if it was worked properly. Laborers should be required to register with the center, providing proper credentials (citizenship, green card, etc.) certifying that they can legally be hired. They could then be provided with a Center ID card which would also benefit the employer, knowing that they are not breaking the law. This could not possibly be viewed as discriminatory because it is, after all, the law that companies may only hire those meeting these requirements. Personally, I think that the certification process should be handled by ICE…but that’s just my opinion.
