Juarez Fills In a Missing Piece

Last August, when the Prince William County Board of Supervisors was considering participation in the Section 287(g) program, Ricardo Juarez of the Woodbridge Workers Committee and Mexicanos Sin Fronteras went on a PR blitz in an ultimately fruitless effort to build opposition to the program. The Manassas Journal-Messenger and other local media outlets spent a lot of time with him, but his outreach certainly wasn’t limited to the english-speaking media. The real gems from him seem to come when he’s in front of an even more friendly audience.
Juarez gave an interview with a reporter of “Bilingual Radio” in New York, and among the rather strident inanities that he proffered, came this:
Reporter Latino entrevistó yesterday (8/2/07) by telephone to Juárez, on the effect of these policies in the general community of that county. “Good, day with day is had been constructing a confidence between the community and the police, because the community immigrant is victim of the crime” also, pointed Juárez. “Nevertheless”, it added, “the fact of inmiscuir to the local police in migration subjects causes that that confidence is broken, is destroyed, because estatus migratory of a very great percentage of our community would be taken like substantial part in the cases of criminal subjects; and innocent people of crimes could be arrested, processed and deported they have even though not committed what constitutes a crime or one felonía”. Bond to remember that sadly the famous “law Sensebrenner”, or the approved legislative piece in December of 2005 by the federal Congress, HR 4437 gives a criminal character him to a violation of civil character, as it is to cross the border or to attend an undocumented person within this country. (emphasis added)
It’s been rather difficult to determine what percentage of non-english speaking recent immigrants are actually illegal. The community isn’t that interested in participating in surveys on the subject, and government at all levels seems rather fearful of doing anything to help document the size and extent of the illegal alien problem. While local government seems concerned about what taxpayer-funded social services the community may benefit from, no substantive attempt to determine whether those who would benefit from these services are actually eligible under current state law to receive them.
Now we have at least some idea of the scope of the problem courtesy of Ricardo Juarez, who I think has about as good a handle on this problem as anyone since his life seems devoted to protecting the interests, and agitating on behalf of, illegal aliens. His belief that “a very great percentage” of the immigrant community seems to mean that a clear majority of non-english speaking immigrants in Prince William County, Manassas and Manassas Park are actually illegal aliens. This squares pretty well with anecdotal evidence I’ve run across.
Given Juarez’s statements that the proportion of illegal aliens in the community is so high, and that it is unlawful for government agencies to spend taxpayer dollars which provide direct support to illegal aliens, it’s probably a good time to revisit the procedures used to provide social services at the county and municipal level and ensure they are provided in a manner consistent with the law. If there’s no attempt to determine whether a beneficiary of taxpayer-funded services is a legal resident or not, and the proportion of those seeking services who are legally ineligible seems higher than the proportion of those who are, this at least appears to be a back-door attempt to subvert the letter and intent of the law.
That couldn’t happen in county and municipal government now, could it?

This story is even better and is one that happened here in PWC. This points out the bias in our media and how the WHOLE story should be told.

The post is beyond biased on this issue. They openly support illegals because as they say, the local economy needs them. However, would the Post ever support corporations who break the law? After all, the local economy needs corporations to employ people.
“However, would the Post ever support corporations who break the law?”
Absolutely, as long as they’re breaking a law that the Post doesn’t agree with.
And believe me that the Post thinks borders should be erased.
