Gang Activity In Manassas Increases

By Greg L | 7 March 2007 | Illegal Aliens, Crime | 17 Comments

According to the Manassas City Police Department, instances of gang-related graffitti in the city in 2006 were up 78% over 2005.  Almost the entirety of this problem is associated with MS-13 and other latino gangs.  I should have additional information on this subject within a few days when the full response to a recent FOIA request arrives.

Stay tuned…

oh gee I wonder why? The mayor and his happy band of police officers just let them waltz right in here and take over the town along with the rest of the illegals. I don’t dare look at any of them cross eyed in traffic anymore lest it give them an excuse to open fire on me. I need to hit the range with my instructor when it warms up to finish my concealed carry reqts. and then I will have a surprise for any of those thugs if they ever try anything on me. Thanks mayor, another satisfied citizen…

Of course our ever so tolerant(unless you are a law abiding gun owner) police chief will not do anything about this, since he does not want to offend or isolate any segment of the population(unless of course you are a law abiding citizen gun owner). We are a lucky lot here in Manassas to be able to witness first hand the destruction of our once lovely town.

The gang tagging and graffiti is getting out of hand. On the wooden fence-lined Ashton Ave I noticed someone cover up tagging with an American flag, but just a few fences over there was still fresh tagging. If your property is hit by tagging do not be a victim - cover it up asap, don’t let the criminals win.

This needs to be addressed immediately. Graffitti may sound like a small problem, as it isn’t a violent crime, but it signifies the existance of a violent group of individuals in the city. It’s kinda like Grizzly Bear crap. If you see the crap, you know there’s a Grizz about, and you should be very concerned about that.

Vandalism, to include graffitti, has been on the rise for several years. I have been the victem twice, and called police the second time. It was a struggle to get them to take the report because it was a “victemless crime” and we won’t be able to catch them.

The City of Manassas is letting bad people get away with what ever they want (witness our reluctance to enforce zoning ordinances). Getting rid of the gangs will require increased police enforcement and prosecution as well as the development and execution of alternative programs (during and after school). The sum of the above requires revenue (read tax dollars) from the rest of the law abiding public. At some point we have to deviate from the no taxscript and invest in the welfare and protection of all citizens. The increased “tagging” is only the start!

“our ever so tolerant(unless you are a law abiding gun owner) police chief”

He’s liberal enough that Fairfax City found him acceptable.

Anytime I have seen gang tagging and graffiti I always call the City to let them know. They have always been responsive when I have called. I do have to say though, that the graffiti I have seen has been on City property, such as electrical boxes.

It seems that private property is a different story.

Take a moment to read the main article in today’s
WaPo Metro section - “A Second Migration”. It
may help some to see the “forest” and not just the “trees”
    in PWC/Manassas.

At least they’re more responsive than VDOT. In one particular case I emailed AND called VDOT (703-383-VDOT) about graffiti on a sign on 28 and it took them 3 months just to take the sign down.

“Housing is at very high prices, and it makes it challenging for families to have space, so a new Arlington is evolving in Woodbridge and Manassas and other parts of the Washington region, mainly in Northern Virginia.”

This is a direct quote from Arlington County Board Vice Chairman Walter Tejada (D).

Oh, what sort of “creative financing” did a custodial worker and a construction worker use to buy a $300k townhouse with a $2800 mortgage? Can we say “subprime loan”?

    Anon,

It is funny you posted what you did. This came from an article in the Washington Times….. I wonder how many of these bad loans were to illegals?

Wall Street seesawed through an erratic session yesterday, trying to stabilize but ultimately finishing near its lows of the day amid worries about mortgage defaults, a strengthening yen and tumbling stock markets abroad.
The major indexes fluctuated throughout the session, with the Dow Jones industrials bobbing between positive and negative territory as investors tried to size up where the market was headed after last week’s big decline. The Dow Jones Industrial Average finished 63 points lower, having fallen in eight of the last nine sessions.
The market remained jittery about losses over soured subprime loans, or loans to customers with poor credit ratings. HSBC Holdings PLC, Europe’s largest bank, said its 2006 earnings rose 5 percent but that it suffered $10.6 billion in losses on bad loans from its U.S. subprime mortgage operations.

So I guess the question is, what does the fact that we have record levels of homeownership right now mean?

    Does it mean:

A)The economy is stronger right now than it’s ever been

    or

B)There has been widespread fraud taking place

I guess we’ll know for sure when these crooks ask Congress for a bailout akin to the S&L mess of the 80s

This scenario has the potential to make the S&L scandal of the 80’s look like a petty larceny in comparison. How do you think all of these illegals here in the park got loans to buy their houses for them and 10 of their relatives? A housefly could have qualified for a home loan 3 years ago. With 90% of them relying on construction or other blue collar labor to pay their bills then the park stands to take the biggest hit in the next year or two since imo it has the largest number of illegal aliens per citizen in the NOVA area. I am kicking myself for not selling this place in ‘05 like I was going to. I saw the writing on the wall but was too lazy and too comfortable to pack up and leave then. Now it looks like I will pay for that mistake.

wALTER TEJADA IS PART OF THE PROBLEM. HE WANT MANASSAS TO BECOME ARLINGTON NOW!

ALSO, HE NEVER RESPONDS TO EMAILS ABOUT HOW HE’LL HELP WITH ILLEGALS AND RIDDING VIRGINIA OF THEM.

More gang tagging hit Ashton Avenue Monday night!

I saw the Manassas public works trucks with workers cleaning the gang signage off at least two power boxes early Tuesday morning. This was just across the street from my home. Looked much like the same signs as on my fence.

My neighbor contracted a painter to cover the signage on their brand new fence! I’m glad they took care of it.

I’ll post more on why I’ve allowed my fence to stay tagged with a gang sign(covered over with my American flag) for so long soon, maybe tomorrow.

The City of Manassas has today removed the graffiti from my fence.
I had a key conversation with the city manager that led to the city attorney drafting a waiver that allowed public workers access to my property. The job was done today, they did a very good job. It took about 10 minutes.

The reason I held out and did not remove it myself:
I want Manassas City to adopt a policy to address removal of graffiti immediately upon discovery.

The current policy is the city does not go onto private property. The property owner is under no requirement to remove graffiti.

This means gangs can sign my fence, I do not have to remove it, all property values and the community goes down! The gangs win!

I need your help to support this position.
Please contact our council members and tell them that we can not allow the gang signage to remain posted, even on private property.

At the very least we need an ordinance addressing this issue.

Removal of graffiti can be accomplished in a number of ways that may not necessitate cost to the City of Manassas.
