Kopko Keeps The Helm

Riley over at Virginia Virtucon has a statement by PWCRC Chairman Tom Kopko which explains that he intends to stay on as chairman of the county party unit and will not challenge Marty Nohe in the Coles District. I particularly am pleased with the strategic focus that Tom lays out for having a strong and unified local party working together to win elections in November. This has been Tom’s focus ever since he took on the role of PWCRC Chairman, and to see it survive the temptation of running for office demonstrates that this focus remains.
Perhaps the most significant outcome here is that the local party leadership remains cohesive for the entire 2007 election season. In particular this greatly benefits Chris Royse who is taking a shot at taking over a seat in Woodbridge that is currently held by a Democrat. Incumbent candidates such as Bob Marshall and Scott Lingamfelter come out on top as well, as the 2007 campaign becomes more focused on winning in November and less concerned about on getting through primary challenges going on within or adjacent to their districts. Tom Kopko also comes out on top as well, as deferring his ambitions for the greater good is a pretty good way to build up loyalties and respect within a party organization.
This leaves primary races for one House of Delegates race and two constitutional offices in Prince William County, as well as one school board seat in the Brentsville District. Only one of these involves an incumbent, Sheriff Glen Hill, who will clearly dominate in a race which is unlikely to develop into anything that would cause much heartburn among Republicans. For this years election cycle, there seems little that is likely to divide resources or fracture party unity going into November.
This is going to be a tough year for Democrats in Prince William.

I think this bodes well that there won’t be a challenger to Supervisor Caddigan, either.
“This leaves primary races for one House of Delegates race and two constitutional offices in Prince William County, …..”
Correct me if I am wrong but no, NOT primary…., but two, possibly three Conventions personally insisted on by Kopko, followed by a county wide primary! It doesn’t make sense.
There is a convention for the 51st, and for Clerk of the Court. Glen Hill has requested a primary on the Sheriff’s race. There will be no contest in the races for the Woodbridge supervisor, any of the house of delegates seats, or any of the senate seats unless you consider the 28th district which has only a few PWC precincts. Everything else is pretty much settled.
