Let The Record Reflect A Bribery Attempt

By Greg L | 19 March 2007 | Prince William County | 20 Comments

In the official minutes of the PWCRC is the following entry regarding candidate for PWC Sheriff Mike Messier’s speech at the last committee meeting:

Mike Messier http://www.messierforsheriff.com/ : Proudly Republican and pro-life. June 12 primary. If elected, will write a check for $10k to PWCRC.

Isn’t that something that a bribery attempt made during a candidate’s speech managed to make it into the official record of the Prince William County Republican Committee? Maybe that will help Commonwealth Attorney Paul Ebert complete his ongoing investigation into this incident. There were hundreds of witnesses, and the official record of the meeting records this violation of the law by a currently serving law enforcement officer who is running for a county sheriff’s seat.

If you’re under indictment for election violations, are you still allowed to run?

Perhaps you should ask Steve Chapman that question.

People say Sheriff Glendell Hill is focusing on the core duties of the sheriff’s office. Isn’t “core duties” “the minimum” and just another way of saying he will only do the minimum duties he has to do?

Could you imagine if all of our public safety agencies felt the same distain for public service and safety as Glendell Hill and just did their core (minimum) duties?

Anonymous, those “core duties” involve working IN CONCERT with the various Police Departments in Prince William County (PWCPD, MPD, MPPD) when requested and not subverting the authority or duplicating the duties of the other law enforcement agencies. It has been that way as far back as I can remember…until Lee Stoffrogen decided to try to make law enforcement in our county purely political, with him as the local power broker handing out the appointments (shades of the “Old South”). Glen Hill has been following the will of the people. That is NOT distain for public service and safety…it’s what he was elected to do.

It would be nice if he did some work. We give him over $460 thousand dollars for holding office for 4 years and this is what he thinks we deserve and expect?

Sheriff Glendell Hill (R) (2004 – 2007) Reduced his workload by cutting services to the people, collected some cell phones, collected some money for the Red Cross to buy a trailer, bought tasers to shock unruly people in the courtroom, bought a golf cart so deputies could ride around the court complex, has a budget well over 7 million dollars and wants a 9 million dollar budget.

Are you really arguing that it’s preferable to employ deadly force as the next level in the continuum of response in cases of threats within the courthouse? I support the deployment of tasers. It’s smart policy.

And are you suggesting that we should establish parallel and duplicative law enforcement operations in the county, as attempted without legislative authority under Stoffregen, in defiance of the rule of a single chain of command and principles of fiscal responsibility? It seems terribly inconsistent with your calls for budgetary restraint. I support a mission-focused sheriff’s office. It’s smart policy.

What isn’t at all smart is this continuing smear campaign against Glen Hill in favor of the discredited policies of Lee Stoffregen being conducted by someone who claims to be a Republican despite a spotty record at best of participation in Republican primaries in the past. The more you do this, the more you draw the ire of Republican activists who previously were disposed to at least listen to your candidate.

This garbage of yours is backfiring. Get a clue.

I see Glendell Hill’s minions are hard at work spreading trumped up charges again!!

Heck why doesn’t every agency follow Glendell Hill’s way of thinking and just do the minimum duties? It work be less work. That is what Glendell believes in.

You call the fire department and tell them you smell what might be a gas leak in your house….They tell you their duty is to fight fires and if there isn’t a fire they aren’t coming out.

You call the police and tell them you hear something upstairs in your house…. They tell you to go upstairs and look and see if someone is up there because their duty is to enforce criminal code and if no one is up there no law has been broken and they aren’t wasting their time coming out.

You call the rescue squad and tell them your son just fell out of a tree and you think he has a broken leg….They tell you he doesn’t need to be “rescued” for you to put him in the car and take him to the doctor…He’ll be alright.

Glen Hill took a pay cut from his jail job to clean up the Sheriff’s office. Enough was enough. Programs in the Sheriff’s office were designed for two things — press releases with the Sheriff’s name on them, and the creation of slush funds (don’t even try to debate that — it’s been well documented). It was time to stop the corrupt carnival and get back to the “sworn duties of the office.”

That’s what Glen Hill ran on, what the citizens demanded, and the voters responded to. Let’s not forget one thing; the voters of PWC are pretty astute. After being outspent $554,000 to $97,000, Glen Hill won with almost 60% of the vote.

I ‘m positive we will NEVER go back to the crooked Stoffregen/Messier regime again.

I hope he did a better job being a jailer then he is a sheriff!! Because all he has accomplished as sheriff is cut services to the community and increased spending to the taxpayer.

He reminds you of Jimmy Carter. Accomplished very little and made the people look like fools for putting him in office.

Cut what services? Like playing county police officer with his radar detector when things are slow as Stoffregen did?

I know where Messier is going wrong. He needs to sell badges as well. I would imagine “Anonymous” is just itching to get his Special Deputy badge back. He couldn’t get into the NCAA tournament, beat a speeding ticket, or get out of a DUI stop without one.

I cann’t believe you attacked Mike Messier again. Everytime you do, Glendell Hill takes a beating about his poor public service record.

I do have to agree with Anonymous about Glendell Hill and Jimmy Carter they both stumbled into office and both don’t have a clue what to do while in office, so they do nothing except spend our money.

I can’t believe that you present yourself as a neutral party in this when postings coming from your IP address has made baseless attacks against Glen Hill both under the “Grayson” and “Anonymous” name. You Messier hit men are dumber than a box of hammers if you think I’m not going to notice this.

No. Say it isn’t so. Glendell Hill’s thugs making threats and trumped up charges?

    4. Anonymous | IP: 216.54.20.194 Mar 1, 5:43 PM

I see Glendell Hill has his minions are hard at work!! If you cannot run on your record (because it is so bad) to get re-elected, file trumped up charges against our opponent.

It is one thing to make trumped up charges against a candidate in the other party, it is completely different thing to make trumped up charges against someone in your own party.

This is a sad day for all Republicans.

We need to stop this nonsense.

    5. Anonymous | IP: 216.54.20.194 Feb 27, 10:39 PM

If Mike withdraws there will be no Republicans in the sheriff’s race. Yes, Glendell Hill has an (R) after his name but that does not make him a Republican. Look at his service record and you will know he is not a true Republican.

Matter of fact, it is a record you would rather forget than repeat.

    6. Grayson | IP: 216.54.20.194 Feb 27, 6:00 PM

Thank you Anonymous for having the courage to bring our current sheriff’s record to light. I know he has not accomplished very much for the community. We need to return to electing leaders with a vision for the office they are elected to hold and want to serve the people. We cannot judge a person by another persons acts. We have to accept them for who they are.

By the way, should I report to the network administrator for the Norfolk City government that they have an open proxy and need to investigate unauthorized access to their network? Or that city employees are misusing their internet access in order to engage in a slander campaign? You tell me how I should proceed. Which violation of the law or employee policy is appropriate here for filing a complaint?

Thank you Greg L for posting that. Now we know what we’re going to deal with from the Messier camp (or should I say one guy with multiple personalities in Norfolk City Government). I was wondering where all these Messier “supporters” were coming from. Apparently they don’t exist…at least not locally anyway.

Just read the LTE section of our local fishwrap, and eventually you will be able to match up names by their locations. Every few months, a letter from Norfolk and some biscut-head town in Ohio appears, bashing Hill. These are the Stoffregen supporters and special deputies who fled the area when their leader was overthrown.

Reality is, Messier has no support in PWC. His supporters are 5 weenies who live out of state. They may be able to write letters, send a few bucks, etc. , but they can’t vote for him. I can’t wait till the primary. Messier is going to get his ass haned to him by Hill.

I think the real question is whether Messier will break double-digits or not in the primary.
