The Whirling Dervishes Of Leftist Ideology

By Greg L | 23 March 2007 | Fairfax County, Humor & Satire | 2 Comments

Within five days of his decrying Marxist-Lenninist influence within the “progressive movement”, Lowell Feld of RK appears to be signing onto their agenda with the latest installment of class warfare cheerleading. That’s eerily reminiscent of Governor Kaine’s about-face on raising taxes after being elected, so perhaps this is less remarkable than it might otherwise appear. While the rhetoric might change, socialism defiantly marches on.

The latest diatribe involves the proposed mechanism for additional transportation funding available in Northern Virginia under the regional transportation components of HB 3202. Tying development to transportation, the funding mechanism in the plan is an additional assessment on commercial property — those big, evil corporations if you will, which never seem to get a whole lot of love from the left. RK and his fellow travelers are usually more than happy to extract as much profitability as possible from these entities in order to adequately fund such critical government services such as needle exchanges, taxpayer funded abortions, and government centers to help illegal aliens find day jobs. But they seem to have suddenly discovered a core economic fundamental which has previously eluded them: that when you tax businesses, it’s the consumer that ends up paying most of the bill.

Now this shocking discovery wouldn’t be of much interest unless a significant portion of this commercial property happened to be in the form of apartment buildings. Holy smokes, not only do consumers actually pay taxes and not those evil corporations, but for God’s sake these are OUR PEOPLE who are going to be the ones who end up paying! That’s not how it’s supposed to work! Taxes are supposed to be what those other people pay! I feel a whole belief system in Fairfax is now crumbling to the ground, and masses of dazed socialists are aimlessly wandering the streets wondering how they can possibly go on with life. If they can’t pay for roads with taxes, how in the world will they fund “living wage” mandates?

Not to worry, Lowell Feld and the brilliant public policy analysts at Albo Must Go have crafted a new approach: let’s start making distinctions between different uses of commercial property, exempt apartments from the tax provisions, and then shift the entire burden to other businesses in Fairfax! If we just create more classes and treat them differently, we can create just the right means to chase away all of those inconvenient commercial enterprises who pay most of the county’s bills, convert that space to save-the-planet-from-global-warming projects, and start riding our bicycles to the unemployment office. Think 1950’s China, before the “Great Leap Forward”. The worker’s paradise! A belief system is saved!

Yes, it’s a tragic thing that Marxism-Lenninism has completely co-opted the core philosophy of the Democratic Party. Maybe some prominent “progressive” website can write an article about this and rescue their breatheren from blindly following in the footsteps of Fidel Castro, Joseph Stalin and Pol Pot.

Hold it. Do you mean to tell me someone’s done this already? When?

So you’re saying that any consideration of social class in policy-making equals Marxism? That’s absurd.

Communism sought to eliminate the system of social class. Which was retarded on so many levels that we might as well not even get into it. What the progressives seek to do (and I use the term ‘progressive’ in a broad, populist sense intended to encompass even Bullmoose politics) is to formally acknowledge the reality of the capitalist class system and make it as fair as possible.

This is really the opposite of communism. Marx said ‘let’s get rid of social class’ while moderate, modern Democrats say ‘let’s accept what it is and try to make the class system work better.’ Marx would be frothing at the mouth if he was alive to see this.

If you ever have the misfortune to talk to a bona-fide modern Socialist (they are really just Communists by another name) you will find that they hate the kind of things that Lowell is talking about even more than you do. Because they see progressive politics as their greatest enemy. A means of justifying and continuing the capitalist system and preventing it’s worst excesses from leading to an out-right revolution. Wheras they love guys like you, because hard-right economic politics are what they need to create the popular dissatisfaction that their storm-crow politics feed on.
