Kopko Hands Over Proxy

By Greg L | 8 May 2007 | 51st HOD District, PWCRC | 7 Comments

I’ve gotten word that Tom Kopko has given his proxy as 51st District Chairman to the proposed convention chairman Pat O’Leary, and will no longer be making decisions about how that convention will be conducted.   This is probably a reasonable compromise, even though before Pat O’Leary was selected as convention chairman, he was a delegate for Faisal Gill.  That probably not a terribly significant issue, since it’s not unknown for delegates to sign up under one campaign but not be committed to one campaign or the other.

We’ll keep an eye on this.  It’s possible that this will resolve all of the outstanding issues regarding this campaign, and restore confidence in the process.  Let’s hope so.

Do both candidates get to know the names of everyone who registered to attend the convention. If this were a Democratic convention in the 8th District I would be very concerned that the machine candidate was getting access to info that the upstart was not.

Is there anything to prevent employees of one candidate or the other from adding names to the list of convention attendees?

Behind closed doors people seek to take advantage. They think they have the right to do that because “we are the ones who built up the party.”

Pat O’Leary knows that this group is not the one that originally “built the party” because that happened when HE first became Republican Committee Chairman. I know…I was one of the group that worked with him to open it up. I’m sure that he remembers that manipulative antics designed to limit participation to a single group or philosophy was precisely the hold that we had to break before the Republican Committee could grow. I doubt that he’d be a party to something like that Jonathan.

Finally a bit of common sense is applied to the 51st, too bad it has taken Kopko this long. Would he have done so if it wasn’t for the pressure from BVBL asking for his resignation?

Kopko still has to restore his credibility with the committee. The only way he can begin to redeem himself is to take it one step further, REFUND the $2,000.

Implying that a well known “press” company north of PW owned by a GOP political activist that provides professional business services to candidates and some powerful elected officials in Fairfax is a lame comparison to Kopko’s side job as a consultant for Gill.

The committee isn’t asleep at the wheel on this one and his action won’t soon be forgotten. Folks are busy working on campaigns to get GOP candidates elected this fall, as they should be. Kopko will be our one-term wonder! We will always wonder what the hell he was thinking!

Soooo, Anon 4:49, having taken money for services rendered, you now propose that Kopko make a $2000 contribution to the Gill campaign prior the primary?

Yeah. That will stop the peurile attacks. You go with that.

Hardly a contribution, James — he’d just be putting it back where it should have “stayed” to begin with…it’s called “correcting a very unfortunate and wrong action.”
