"We have lost our ambition, our imagination, and our willingness to do the things that built the Golden Gate Bridge" - Barack Obama (aka President Malaise)

A New American Picture

Courtesy of the Manassas Journal-Messenger, we get a great example of the kind of immigration that helps our nation. Yesterday Marine Corps Sergeant Jose Ventura, a native of the Dominican Republic, was sworn in as a citizen of the United States of America. He’s been deployed to Iraq twice, served his country for four years as a Marine, followed the law, and fully become an American in his heart. He is now an American citizen in fact.

The next time someone demands amnesty for those who are breaking the law, just consider what a slap in the face that would be for someone like Sergeant Ventura, who worked so hard in order to earn his citizenship. The next time someone demands we accommodate those who are uninterested in learning English by printing ballots in foreign languages, or requiring government to print forms for obtaining social services in other languages, remember those like Sergeant Ventura who have fully embraced our American culture and learned English. And the next time someone tries to explain that there’s nothing insidious about a bunch of illegal aliens protesting for special treatment while waving the flag of whatever country they came from, remember this picture of a brave young man, a Marine, a father, a husband, who has had no desire to do anything but stand in the uniform of the armed services of our nation, in front of our American flag, and said this:

I hereby declare, on oath, that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen; that I will support and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I will bear arms on behalf of the United States when required by law; that I will perform noncombatant service in the Armed Forces of the United States when required by the law; that I will perform work of national importance under civilian direction when required by the law; and that I take this obligation freely without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; so help me God.

And in his own words:

America, he said, represents freedom. “I’ve always felt like an American. I joined the military to serve the country,” he said. “I’ve been raised in America. I feel like I can finally say, ‘I am an American.’ “

Yes, you are, Sergeant Ventura. You earned that, and we are proud to have you as one of our own.

At least HE can fit into his uniform!!! Seriously, there ARE more of people like Marine Ventura than the media lets on. Kudos to you, Greg, for an excellent article about a TRUE American.
