RedState: Faisal Gill Will Hurt GOP
By Greg L | 24 May 2007 | 51st HOD District | 28 Comments
A few days ago, RedState followed up on their previous Faisal Gill story in which they asked whether we should be concerned about Faisal Gill’s candidacy, and have come to a conclusion about that question. We should.
In a state where the GOP is clinging to power, barely, Mr. Gill has a very questionable background — from ties to a man indicted on terrorism charges to his law partner allegedly leaking the NSA wire tap program to rumors that Mr. Gill himself has filed legal challenges on behalf of Gitmo detainees (I can’t find anything on that, but several lawyers report that is a very credible rumor). While I’d be willing to admit these rumors could be character assassination, there are a lot of serious people seriously concerned.
The most troubling thing is that Virginia’s campaign finance rules allow pretty much unlimited contributions and Mr. Gill has raked in a lot of contributions. While we should expect and not be troubled by a minority ethnic community supporting its own, a growing number of Virginians are concerned — particularly because the Virginia Democrats are already hoping to destroy the Virginia GOP with Mr. Gill’s candidacy.
You see, Mr. Gill has spread his wealth around and gotten a number of prominent endorsements. The Virginia Democrats have already been public about how they intend to tie Mr. Gill’s questionable ties to alleged terrorists to those Republicans who endorsed him.
They keep coming up with rather interesting leads on the Faisal Gill story. Is Faisal Gill working for terrorist detainees at Guantanamo Bay’s Camp Delta? Some of these detainees at Camp Delta are reported to be members of the Al-Haramain Foundation, an organization designated by the Treasury Department and the United Nations as a supporter of terrorism which Faisal Gill’s law partner Asim Ghafoor has represented.
If Faisal Gill wins the nomination, which thankfully may be less likely (stay tuned - news is developing on this), Democrats will have a field day with him.

In the summer of 2004 Faisal Gill’s former boss/client Abdurahman Alamoudi was convicted of laundering Libyan government money and sentenced to 23 years in jail. He was indicted, tried and convicted.
And in the summer of 2004, this statement was issued by the Department of Homeland Security:
WASHINGTON — A spokesman for the Department of Homeland Security offered this statement in response to questions about Faisal Gill, a political appointee whose previous employment record has been called into question.
Before an employee joins the Department of Homeland Security, a background check is conducted that is commensurate with their position.
DHS is confident that our security clearance process is effective. Mr. Gill was thoroughly vetted at several levels. Mr. Gill did not withhold information on government forms required to initiate government security clearance processing and has been cooperative throughout the process.
Although Faisal Gill had previously held a security clearance, the department’s office of security updated his security clearance prior to him assuming his current role and responsibilities. We went to great lengths to investigate his background and ensure there were no potential conflicts or inappropriate activities in relation to Mr. Gill.
Following a thorough investigation, we found that Mr. Gill exceeded all requirements set forth by the department office of security for access to classified information as prescribed by the intelligence community that allows him to conduct his day-to-day duties for the department.
Jonathan Mark, I suggest you stop acting like a 5-year old schoolgirl and repeating the same thing over and over again… Maybe this will shut you up for once…
And we all know that the government would never drum up a story to protect itself from embarrassing revelations, now would it?
You guys live in a world of hypotheticals… Give it a rest already… He was accused, investigated, and cleared… End of discussion…
Well the government repeatedly stopped Mohammad Atta and nobody ever connected the dots. The Fort Dix Six were stopped by law enforcement many times and were illegal aliens to boot.
I don’t put blind faith in the government to do their job right.
Homeland Security and FEMA had five days to prepare for Katrina and they failed there as well.
How many clearance interviews did Robert Hansen go thru before HE was caught???
The DHS investigation may only have investigated whether the contradictory answers that Gill provided about his AMC work were a reason to fire Gill. Or the DHS may have broadened the scope of its investigation to look into Gill’s relationship with Abdurahman Alamoudi, Sami Al-Arian, Abdullah Al-Arian, and other radicals.
The question of the contradictory answers that Gill provided about his AMC employment is the only subject which we know that the DHS looked at. The DHS may have looked at more and not said so. The DHS may not have.
Here are some unanswered questions which hopefully Gill supporters can answer.
Why did Gill go to work as chief lobbyist for the American Muslim Council in April, 2001? That was six months after AMC leader Abdurahman Alamoudi went on national television and claimed that he and his supporters were all members of Hamas and Hezbollah.
Why did Gill work for the AMC in the aftermath of 9-11, when the AMC told Moslems not to even talk to the FBI?
Why does Gill’s current law parter/lobbying partner Asim Ghafoor represent Designated International Terrorist Entities, including the Al-Haramain Foundation in Saudi Arabia?
Have Gill or Ghafoor ever filed for the release of prisoners from Gitmo or for the shutdown of that facility?
There are just so many important questions that we do not know the answers to.
Jonathan Mark, if you have so many damn questions, why don’t you write them down and call Faisal so that he can answer them for you… Why don’t you go straight to the source? Unless of course you don’t have the testicular fortitude to get up from behind your computer screen and stand behind your words…
Did Gill write the AMC letter that told Muslims not to talk to the FBI?
Gill does state in one conference that you don’t have to talk to the FBI unless you have a lawyer. He claims and flip flops about whether to have a lawyer. When Gill was in law enforcement he would say something different. Now that Gill is out of law enforcement he would say you don’t have to talk to the FBI without a lawyer.
Of course Gill’s FBI brother might disagree with Gill. I assume FBI agents like to talk to regular people without a lawyer. Having a lawyer just adds to combative nature of the exchange.
This is Gill speaking at the Muslim Public Affairs Society.

Here are some Gill comments from the Muslim Public Affairs Council
Gill seems to have to different views about the FBI. Which is interesting because his brother is in the FBI according to Gill.

Gill talks about the FBI and law enforcement and his brother in the FBI
Gill seems to flip flop about whether one should talk to the FBI without a lawyer. When Gill was in law enforcement he would say cooperate with the FBI. Now he says you might want to get a lawyer.

From the 12/17/2003 American Spectator. Gill was the AMCs chief lobbyist in the aftermath of 9-11:
“”"If the crack research team at the FBI had looked at the AMC website in the aftermath of September 11, however, this is what it would have found under the heading, The Law Says You Don’t Have to Talk to the FBI: “The FBI is looking for information to use against you, your family and/or your community. The FBI has a history of harassing and harming minority and immigrant communities. Some people are spending a long time in jail because they or their friends talked to the FBI.…FBI agents are trained to get you to make incomplete or contradictory statements — which later can be used against you in court. It is better to say nothing.”"”

Why was Gill working as the chief lobbyist for the American Muslim Council, an organization which told Moslems not to talk to the FBI?
“”"Jonathan Mark, if you have so many damn questions,”"”
Obviously, you object to people asking too many questions about Faisal Gill. What is it that you are afraid we will find?
“”Unless of course you don’t have the testicular fortitude to get up from behind your computer screen and stand behind your words…”"”
I stand behind my words. You post anonymously.
And you want testicular fortitude? I will show you testicular fortitude.

“Did Gill write the AMC letter that told Muslims not to talk to the FBI?”
This is an out-and-out lie. The AMC never told Muslims not to talk to the FBI.
The AMC advised all members of the Muslim community to have legal representation present whenever they speak to the FBI.
What’s wrong with that??!
I think legal counsel (spelling?) is a good thing. I hope no-one here objects to everyone’s right to legal representation.
Good Guy, why are you even bringing up the DHS statement “clearing” him? He’s affiliated with known terrorists, convicted terrorists, and terrorist sympathizers. You’re trying to shift the issue to make Gill look like he just got caught up in a bad situation, and ignoring the fact that as the spokesman for that organization, he damn sure should have known what kind of “business” the man he was speaking for was into- terrorism. So he’s either a terrorist associate, a total idiot, or both- either way he’s not fit for office!
Someone wrote “”"Did Gill write the AMC letter that told Muslims not to talk to the FBI?””"”
To which Anonymous, another Gill Kool-Aid drinker, responded unfactually:
“”"This is an out-and-out lie. The AMC never told Muslims not to talk to the FBI.”"”
The Gill/Alamoudi American Muslim Council DID INDEED tell Moslems not to talk to the FBI. Here is the quote, as reprinted in the 12/17/2003 edition of the American Spectator:
“”"If the crack research team at the FBI had looked at the AMC website in the aftermath of September 11, however, this is what it would have found under the heading, The Law Says You Don’t Have to Talk to the FBI: ‘The FBI is looking for information to use against you, your family and/or your community. It is better to say nothing.’ “”"

OHHHHHHH SNAP! hahahaha
No lawyer worth a damn would EVER advise his client to talk to a government investigatory agency without the advice of counsel. That is sound legal advice. I would suggest that those trying to spin it as something sinister learn a little about the dangers of entanglement with the criminal justice system.
Notice how James Young refuses to read what the Gill and Alamoudi’s AMC said. The AMC said
“”"FBI agents are trained to get you to make incomplete or contradictory statements — which later can be used against you in court. It is better to say nothing.’”"”
IT…IS…BETTER…TO…SAY…NOTHING
What part of the AMCs advice to Moslems does James Young not understand?
I so wish I could go back in time, make Gill switch over to running as a Democrat, and see how James Young, Charles and the other Gill defenders would react to all this. I absolutely guarantee it would be totally different.
I’d have to say that this is the most damning part of the AMC/Alamoudi/Gill statement:
“‘The FBI is looking for information to use against you, your family and/or your community. The FBI has a history of harassing and harming minority and immigrant communities”
You can be sure that the Democrats are frothing at the mouth over a Gill nomination. The really SAD part is that those who claim to be Republicans supporting Gill know full-well that he is unelectable.
Well, that’s fine, freedom. And if Julie is so “electable,” she should have no trouble securing the GOP nomination.
‘Course, the fact that some “Republicans” feel that they have to — with the assistance of someone too far out even for the Mason District Dems, JM — slime Faisal in order to achieve that end may also speak to her “electability.”
Mr. Young,
It is clear that you are a Faisal supporter, as you have stated on numerous occasions that the things Gill’s past associations mean little to you. I have looked at everything posted here and elswhere, gone to the cited sources to ensure their legitimacy, and found everything where the poster(s) said they would be. I have read the articles, looked at the government documents, and even went so far as to check several author’s primary sources. All seem to be legitimate.
Since you are a lawyer, I am surprised that you will not admit that the evidence has become overwhelming. I can see why you would dismiss this blog-owners efforts as a vendetta, considering the history that exists between he and Gill. However, there are many, many others who are bringing Gill’s questionable actions and judgement to light.
Aren’t you concerned about the future of your party? Shouldn’t the voters know who they are voting for? Doesn’t the party deserve to have the very best, electable candidate? I say it does, and Faisal Gill isn’t.
Any campaign involving Gill will become a circus. He will have to spend all of his time on the defensive. As the last election results for the 51st show, the Party is not as strong in the district as it once was. This won’t be a race about issues. It will be a race about the candidates qualifications and background. In both areas, Gill is lacking. The oppostion will use every bit of this very public information to bury Gill. Furthermore, they will use Gill to attack Kopko, Stewart, McQuigg, etc.
So when will you acknowledge that Gill is a liability, not an asset to the Party?
“”"And if Julie is so “electable,” she should have no trouble securing the GOP nomination.”"”
Not so. For one thing, the odds are stacked against her. The people running the Convention are: (1) Faisal employee Kopko; (2) Speaker at Faisal’s campaign kickoff and self-announced Faisal voter McQuigg (sp?) ; and (3) Faisal nominater for PWC Housing Board Mike May.
“”"the assistance of someone too far out even for the Mason District Dems, JM “”"
The Lee District Democratic Committee said that they would not permit me to join because I supported Republicans (Lisa Marie Cheney) and opposed Dems (I had a website they were familiar with called GoodbyeJim.com. I attacked Rep. Moran every day for three years online.)
It is strange that Jim Young considers supporting Republicans “far out.”
How amazing this is…Jim Young, an obviously intelligent man who claims to be a Republican…goes to the meetings…speaks as though he supports the party and knows what’s right, claims to be a conservative, yet supports a candidate who is beyond question “easy meat” to the Dems. Come on, James, wake up!! I know he’s a friend of yours….and I know he has a lot of money….but please, help us select a Republican candidate who has a chance of winning in November. I’m not saying Julie is “…so electable,” I never have…November will be tough, regardless of of the 2 June, but let’s not go into the race against the Democrats with one arm tied behind our back!! You’re way to smart to think that good for the party. I want a Republican in Richmond!!
