Help Save Manassas Goes To The BOCS
By Greg L | 5 June 2007 | Illegal Aliens, Prince William County | 9 Comments
In about an hour Help Save Manassas will be addressing the Prince William County Board of Supervisors regarding the policy of the county police department which prohibits officers from asking about the immigration status of suspected illegal aliens. It should be an interesting meeting, especially since this policy may put about $250,000 or more in funding to the police department from Homeland Security’s SCAAP program at risk.
If you get the county’s cable channel which broadcasts meetings, you might want to tune in.

About 25-30 members showed up for the 2PM meeting, and about 10 members spoke. Kipp Hanley (Manassas Journal-Messenger) and Natasha Altimarano (Washington Times) were there.
Stay tuned for more details. I think it went pretty well.
I think an impact was made. I came late and heard about 5 people speak about how illegal aliens have affected thier lives. Some of these people were only there for moral support, but decided to speak anyway. The reporter from the MJM took the time to speak with Greg after the meeting.
I’m hoping we get some input from the BOCS themselves and what they are going to do about the sanctuary situation in the county.
I have to agree, impact was definately made. After returning home from the PWCBOS Meetiing, I tuned in channel 23, I got to hear the individual Supervisors speak. I was very pleased to hear Mr. Covington, say he felt further discussions regarding illegal aliens, should be on the agenda in a couple of months. He mentioned the citizen’s turnout for the 2pm meeting. I have to add I was very disappointed, yet not suprised that Mr. Stirrup, mentioned nothing of this. I believe most of us who were there and or spoke are from the Gainesville District. I think we all owe Supervisor Covington a huge THANK YOU, for wanting to address this issue. I think those of us who live in the Gainesville District, should ask who’s listening to our concerns with our community(Westgate & Sudley), is it really, Mr. Covington, of the Brentsville District?
There’s a very simple solution to this whole problem.

I posted the post below on the other thread that deals with this same issue (apparently one was before the meeting and the other was more ‘after action’) but perhaps I should have put my question here:
Can someone confirm for me:
I remember that in some of the recent newpaper reporting (MJM?) that only one candidate in the upcoming primary for Sheriff next Tuesday has cared enough to show up at these meetings…
I know that I saw something about the candidate, James J. Fotis for Sheriff, who showed up and spoke about illegal immigration at the HSM meeting… I’ve heard that Fotis is the only candidate for Sheriff who has the balls to join HSM too.
But then I seem to recall that someone said that not only has Fotis been going to the HSM meetings, not only did he join HSM, not only has he been out front leading on this issue, but Fotis also took time from a critical part of the rapidly closing campaign trail to join with Greg L. and the others at this particular meeting. (One might infer Fotis is really serious on this issue if he would take time off the campaign trail just to sit in the crowd and lend his support…!)
But I did not see anything about Fotis being there in what Greg L. posted in this thread. It seems to me to be a prettty important issue, especially with the fact that the primary for Sheriff is right around the corner, the fact that having a Sheriff who cares about this issue and is not afraid to talk about it/take a leadership role, is far better than having what is in office now…. a Sheriff who won’t lead on this issue.
Can anyone who was at the BOS meeting confirm this….
Dear Lafayette,
I left a message for you on Furor in Fairfax. You are right. Stirrup doesn’t seem to want to address this issue at the Board meetings.
Please don’t give up.
Come on IP - you act like you are ignorant, then deliver the whamy - do you not think we all read ALL on these topics ??!!??
And your cut & paste - so elementary - just shut up
Does IP even live in PWC?
Curious — to save what will yet againg be a series of needless, off-topic back and forth , please allow me to answer this yet again. No. I live a stone’s throw from the PW Co. line in Ffx.
For some, they keep ‘discovering’ this, despite the fact that I have said it about a dozen times. Typically rather than deal with whatever issues are the focus of the thread, rather than respond to tough questions or skip rhetoric and get to facts, this becomes a stand alone theme to try and shift focus.
Perhaps this once it won’t happen (again)?
Nothing to discover here folks.. nothing to see… move on… there are no droids..
