Vote For Glen Hill
By Greg L | 9 June 2007 | Prince William County | 46 Comments
On Tuesday Republican voters in Prince William County will go to the polls and select a nominee for Sheriff. Given that the only candidate to file outside of the Republican party is a columnist for the Potomac News with no law enforcement experience, it is very likely that this primary will effectively select the next Sheriff. On Tuesday voters should cast their ballot to re-elect Glendell Hill for a number of reasons.
When Glen Hill last ran for office, he promised to run an open and honest department, clean up the mess from the previous officeholder, and refocus the department on it’s core responsibilities. He has kept those promises. Real outcome metrics have been established for the department, which are fully auditable. He’s been effective at controlling costs, and the Department spends a modest $7.1 million now compared to the $6.8 million budget he inherited. Broken or inoperable security equipment at the courthouse is now fully functional and operated by deputies certified in the use of that equipment. Civil process is served in a timely manner and not relegated to a distant priority over traffic enforcement duties. Prisoner and patient transport is performed by fully trained and properly sworn deputies. The Sheriff’s Department is no longer in turf battles with the Prince William County Police Department, and for the first time has interoperable radio equipment that uses the same frequencies as the county, making it much less complicated for the county police department to obtain effective and timely support from the Sheriff’s Department when the need arises. Glen Hill has done what he said he would do, and voters elected him based on those promises. They should do so again.
Glen Hill’s opponents have failed to make any convincing case that there is a valid reason to replace Sheriff Glen Hill. There have been wild claims that he has hurt public safety by not following the lead of the previous officeholder of trying to duplicate the responsibilities of the county police department, which are pretty laughable when you consider the bizarre extremes that policy had gone to. Private citizens buying patrol cars and a private watercraft being outfitted with law enforcement regalia in order to cruise around with young women late at night are hardly a practice worth resurrecting from the grave that Glen Hill dug for these foolhardy ideas. Too often, outright lies have been ponied up to discredit him, including statements that he raised the department’s budget to $9 million, that he has engaged in an unlawful gun registration scheme, or that he is pro-abortion, for example. Not one of these reckless lies have been substantiated in any way, and where it’s possible to obtain evidence on these allegations, all of that evidence shows such allegations to be false.
Usually, when a candidate make promises that the voters want to see delivered, the voters overwhelmingly elect that candidate based on these promises, and the candidate keeps these promises as an elected official, there’s never a question about whether that person should be re-elected. This bizarre race has muddied the waters considerably, which is very unfortunate and a disservice to the voters. I hope Republicans will see through the fog and join me on Tuesday in voting to re-elect Glen Hill as Prince William County Sheriff, because through all of the muck in this race, one thing should be clear: Sheriff Hill has consistently delivered on his promises, has done an excellent job, and will continue to do so if the voters select him as the Republican nominee on June 12th.

When the Democrats are better law and order fiscal conservatives then the Republican holding office, it is time for a change. Glendell made sure this occurred by his dislike for public service and lack of leadership and management skills.
If you are still wondering why Glendell is holding office? It is for the money, not public service.
There are no Dems -
Henry:
The sad thing is they are still better law and order fiscal conservatives then the Republican holding office.
Anon, can’t you read the post above? How in blazes is an increase from $6.8 million to $7.1 million over three years supposed to be an example of fiscal profligacy? Especially so when county taxpayers are only paying $4.4 million of that budget?
This is precisely the sort of inane, unfounded, and ridiculous garbage that the Messier camp has been spreading for the past several months that compels so many to so strongly support Glen Hill. I know you so desperately want that number to be $9 million, but it isn’t, no matter how often you try to tell people that it is.
Easy on him Greg - he has been tramutized by CD
You spew Glendell’s propaganda very well.
Well how about you try providing some basis for your claims. So far I’ve seen not a thin shred of evidence to back up these consistently scurrilous allegations against Glen Hill.
My sense is that Sheriff Hill will win handily.
Anonymous, you persistently refuse to answer my question…are you that EX-DEPUTY who now resides in VA Beach, or the one in Ohio?
As I see it, Glen Hill’s ONLY “baggage” in this campaign is his support by Tom Kopko, Corey Stewart, and Michelle McQuigg. I hope that’s not sufficient to pull him down.
Anon 12:31 — Hey, I’m sure there is a very good reason why Glen wouldn’t give you a job. Stop b.eing so bitter and get on with your life
There is a dem running -
His name is Mike Messier.
I believe that Hill is/was a Democrat before he entered the
race for Sheriff 4 years ago. Has anybody bothered to check
his voting record? I’m just curious and would really like to
know the answer to this question. Since I’m living such a
sheltered life these days, I wish somebody would check this
out for me.
This isn’t about past affiliations NR…Ronald Reagan was a Democrat before he ran for Governor of California. This is all about what somebody DID or DIDN’T do in the recent past when they found themselves faced with corruption and malfeasance. As much as he denies having been a part of it, Messier was CLEARLY in a position to do something about Stoffregen. That’s really the issue.
The issue here is what Glen Hill has done for that office and what the citizens expected him to do…I have yet to see anyone come forth with any basis of a challenge that Hill has not fulfilled his promises to the citizens. What I have seen are alot of attempts to discredit Sheriff Hill. What I am seeing is that the non-Hill supporters have resorted to desparation lies in a futile attempt to have their guys at least get their names out there. This has injured them immensley. You could call it a lack of knowledge in PWC politics or just plain ignorance.
NR I beleive four years ago there was alot of discussion as to whether Hill was a D turned R for the Sheriff’s race. Check it out yourself…
Sheriff Hill will win this primary and the citizens will be served VERY well just as in the past four years!
VOTE HILL JUNE 12
You been hammering Messier on what you believe is his past and think that matters (most of what you are saying is BS), but Glendell’s past doesn’t matter? You all sound like Glendell….Don’t believe what you know to be true, believe what I tell you is true.
Anonymous 6:21,
What in the world are you trying to say? If you have something to say just say it. Otherwise why bother…you make absolutely no sense. And futhermore, I have not seen a whole lot of BS when it comes to Messier and his 8 years with Stoffy. It is what it is and there is not a whole lot anyone can do to change that. As I said before Messier knew or should have known (based on his 2nd in command position) what was going on at that Sheriff’s office. Pick one? Neither choice looks good at all to the citizens of PWC, Manassas or Manassas Park does it?
VOTE HILL JUNE 12
Naked Republican I have red all your crap. Wow do this, study real hard ,think real hard ,try real hard ,and graduate from the sixth grade.
As you are a Messssier supporter you have to have the same mentality, so you must be a good ole boy red neck boss hog type. guy ,this age is done your relative can’t be a deputy anymore. Your rhetoric is just sad now.
I wish you really even had a point, however i am sure that any point you had would be as lame as Messiers lame run for Sheriff as is quote AN HONEST MAN
What a joke.
You have to remember Stoffregen has been found guity of nothing. After all the political invesigations (Commonwealth Attorney’s Offices, Virginia State police and FBI) the charges have either been unfounded or dismissed.
A little out of touch there, Anonymous…don’t get the local papers in VA Beach or Ohio? Stoffregen got a plea bargain, and, unfortunately, got off light…but he DID PLEAD GUILTY, albeit to reduced charges. Too bad. Of course that means he couldn’t run for dog catcher, if that happened to be an elected position around here.
Stoffregen plead no contest to two misdemeanor charges, agreed to repay $16,500, and returned a semi-automatic weapon to the Sheriff’s office as part of a plea agreement.
That’s a little short of “unfounded or dismissed”.
As far as political corruption charges get prosecuted in this county under Paul Ebert, that’s about as big a result as you’ll ever see.
Anon: 10:10 Are you high? Stoff got a plea bargain. You wouldn’t believe what was there that was just let go for the good of the county.
Oh yea…forgot to say..Super Trooper is awesome.
Stoffregen did not plea guilty to anything and was not found guilty of anything. It did not even go to trial. Even the Commmonwealth Attorney didn’t think the evidence would hold up in court.
He copped a plea. Your spin on this does nothing but solidify the link between the Messier campaign and the discredited Lee Stoffregen.
It took a court agreement to force this knuclehead to return an AR-15 assault rifle owned by the Sheriff’s Department back to the department from his possession, fer cryin’ out loud. How utterly boneheaded is that?
$16,500 fine is pretty steep for somebody who didn’t do anything, don’t ya think?
“You have to remember Stoffregen has been found guity of nothing. After all the political invesigations (Commonwealth Attorney’s Offices, Virginia State police and FBI) the charges have either been unfounded or dismissed.”
Uh…Right…sure….if you say so. If he did nothing wrong, then why did he have to give back the AR-15, and why did he have to pay back all of that money he took from that slush-fund? Ever hear of a plea deal?
It all had to do with money. He paid 60K in attorney fees. If it went to trial to obtain a dismissal, it would cost another 60K in attorney fees, and his political foes could still bring more of their bull sh** charges. Stoffregen ended all the drama by giving the county $16,500 and giving the sheriff’s office a rifle that was a gift to him. So, he achieived the dismissal of the charges, no more bull sh** charges could be made, and he saved over 40K.
Actually Anonymous, he saved himself time at Club Fed. It was the Feds that finally came in and nailed him. My brother has the whole story…he was at the forefront pushing the investigation. It runs in the family.
Anonymous 10:45,
Either Stoffy pled guilty or not. He did, it is public information and the citizens know. They obviously were not BS charges if he pled. Futhermore, Messier was and will always be attached to Stoffy, no matter what anyone says on this blog. It may not be right, but it is what it is. Messier worked for and with a criminal. He knew what was going on and I hope Messier never denies that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
VOTE FOR HILL JUNE 12
Just a note, Stoffy pled “No Contest” which means he doesn’t admit guilt, but does admit that the Commonwealth has enough evidence to convict him. It is the same thing as pleading guilty. You don’t get credit for pleading no contest. It just shows me he is a person who is guilty but wont accept blame. On another note, I noticed a Mike Messier sign on Sudley Road in front of Star Homes Realty. If you don’t know, Star Homes Realty’s owner is George Green (Greene). Look on the State Police web site for convicted sex offenders and he is a convicted child sex offender. Great person to have supporting you.
Okay, i’m lost. sorry i didn’t read all the posts on the subject, but what exactly was the reason for not supporting Fotis??
He did appear at the Help Save Manassas May meet, right? His views on illegal immigration certainly seem to dovetail with that organization’s whole reason to be?? So I have to say I’m a little perplexed, Greg, that you are endorsing Hill.
And i’d have to say, excuse my ignorance, but I don’t recall Hill, however likable, honest, etc., exactly going to bat in the aggressive manner i’d like to see on this issue??
I’m glad that Hill, Deane and Skinner all work well together, but where does that get us on this issue — especially given the sanctuary state of mind that seems to be evident for the appointees?
I don’t care about past PW history. That was then, this is now.
Illegal Immigration is what I care about given the disastrous impact on this community….??? Hill does not strike me as a Jackson Miller-type. Am I missing something.
Were it not for the outrageous behavior of one of Jim Fotis’ supporters, I may have made a somewhat different endorsement. I pretty much was badgered away from strongly supporting Jim because his operations director at LEAA was recklessly lying about Glen Hill and myself in his support of Jim, and I take a rather dim view of that behavior.
I do appreciate Jim Fotis’ principled stand on illegal aliens, and while he is likely better than Glen Hill on this issue, I can’t endorse someone who has appointed as staff someone so horribly unethical and irresponsible as Ted Deeds. A Sheriff makes personnel decisions, and this isn’t a good track record.
I wish things had been different, but in the end I think we learned something important.
It also does count in my view that Jackson Miller has endorsed Glen Hill. I have little doubt that if we experienced a problem with illegal aliens and needed the Sheriff’s assistance on a policy issue, he would be willing to listen to Delegate Miller and other concerned citizens, and in the end would make the right decision.
As I understand it, Hill fully supports 287(g) training for officers at the Jail, as a first step - sounds like support to me on this issue. He has a specific job to do and unless their are going to be more monies to hire more folks to train deputies and police officers, the jail seems like a logical place to start with this action. There are so many issues other than illegals that must be attended to, hanging a mans abilities on just one of then seems one dimensional at best. I think Greg has a good understanding that one position alone does not make or break a candidate - lies will always devalue one however -
Thanks for getting me up to date. The situation you describe with Fotis’ campaign staff is unfortunate and would also factor in my decision. HOWEVER, i sure hope you have mistyped the statement regarding “‘IF’ we experienced a problem with illegal aliens, he [Hill] would be willing to listen….” We all know, there is NO “IF” — we are THERE. So i’m sure many many citizens like me would like to see WHOEVER is elected get a whole lot more PROACTIVE instead of REACTIVE real fast….If Hill gets the second chance, I hope he’s paying attention. This “sanctuary” and other political correctness nonsense has to end.
Please see: http://www.fbi.gov/wanted/fugitives/vc/murders/vc_murders.htm
Check it out. Look at the names and faces. This is LEGIT!!
53% of the list are FOREIGN NATIONALS, and a whopping 82% of those are MEXICAN-BORN!!
Don’t you just LOVE MASS IMMIGRATION — legal and otherwise??!!
YUP, I’d say the system sure is broken….
Now let’s just extrapolate these stats to our local community and think about whose running around AT LARGE that our local PDs and Sherriff’s office don’t seem to want to be upsetting by confirming “legal presence” …. WHY? Because remember, “illegal immigration is a complicated FEDERAL problem.” Isn’t that the MANTRA of local law enforcement of the SANCTUARY state of mind ??”
The smaller companion list of those wanted for other violent crimes is also generously sprinkled with foreign born.
Ahh, it’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood, yes?
Seems to me, cutting budgets and starting more programs like 287g and all that other stuff which will obviously cost more money are at odds - I have learned you vcannot do more with less - it is a mathmatical impossibility
Illegal Immigration IS Issue One, per Tom Tancredo. I agree!
DLR, the “if” there relates to the Sheriff’s Department being in a position to do something about it. Since theie core duties are courthouse security, prisoner and patient transport, and service of civil process. Within these duties I doubt there’s a lot of opportunities to do much on the illegal alien issue.
Policy boards are where the battles lie - the city councils and the various Boards of County Supervisors, as well as the House of Delegates and Senate. That is where this issue really is important.
DLC,
JasonCW touches are a valuable point that I think most folks are missing. Sheriff Hill being on the Jail Board sent several jail staff to training for the 287g program to be implemented into the Adult Detention Center. Personally, I cannot think of a better starting point that deporting illegals that commit crimes in Prince William, Manassas City and Manassas Park. The way I see we are doing more in our jurisdictions than that of our surrounding. I also think if (if being the key word) Jackson Miller and the like approached Sheriff Hill for support on this matter the support he would get.
Citizen Sam,
Your posting brings back a memory of about four years ago when Sheriff Hill spotted Greene at a swim meet. Of course Hill knew Greene and knew he should it no way shape or form be there and he took action immediately. As a result of the “heat” that Greene got from that, Greene has quite the problem with Hill…thus inviting Messier to put signs up on his property. Messier probably doesn’t even know that Greene is on the SOR, but because of Hill’s ties in this community not much gets by him!!!!!!!!
VOTE HILL TOMORROW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
vote4hill, I remember that incident very well. I did not realize it was Hill who saw him there. The sign on Greene’s property is not just the normal everyday sign, but rather a large sign that I believe that as a candidate for sheriff, he should know that he handed out or worse had installed by one of his workers on a convicted child molesters property. But maybe he did know and really was hoping no one else would notice. Messier may be a fine person and great family man, but I just can’t vote for the man who was second in charge of the Stoffy clan, who spreads clear cut lies about Hill’s budget and all thye other things that come with his past. But I do have to say if I was on the fence, the George Greene promotion seals the deal for Hill.
To all:
Would any of you consider it juvenile for the Messier camp to put his signs directly in front of Sheriff Hill’s signs at the polling places? I find these antics slimy. I am all for the candidates getting their signs up at the polling places, as many as they wish, but find it an absolute disgrace to pull stunts like this!
To the Messier camp….grow up!
VOTE HILL TOMORROW!!!!!!!
Citizen Sam,
To go one step further Sheriff Hill’s office now processes all of the Sex Offenders for Virginia’s registry that goes through the Prince William Courthouse. This is a fairly new program, but Hill took this one by the horns!!!!!!
VOTE HILL TOMORROW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Vote4Hill and Greg,
I understand your points. My point is we need a LOT more front and center initiative than we have seen. As i recall the whole 287(g) program currently being implemented at the jail was NOT Hill’s idea, but rather something that grew out of the PUSH from Jackson Miller. Hill as Sheriff is an elected official, like MILLER, NOT an appointee like Deane and Skinner. He needs to get out front on the issues that concern his CONSTITUENTS and stop acting like an appointee. He’s got an excellent bully-pulpit that he doesn’t seem to be using to take the lead in forging policy and action on this very important issue. Perhaps he could take a lesson from Sheriffs Joe Arpaio, AZ, and Sheriff Rick Jones, Butler, Ohio,,,,
Vote4hill, I understand your concern, but rember, the Sheriffs from those jurisdictions are probably responsible for law enforcement duties unlike in Prince William County. I could see the Sheriff from Loudoun County coming out in stance for this program as he is the Chief law enforcement official. I belive Hill is doing what he needs to do to assist with getting the program here.
CS,
I think you may have addressed your post to the wrong person. I too believe and have seen first hand what Hill is doing with the programs!
VOTE HILL TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
VOTE4HILL, You are correct, that was for disgusted LEGAL citizen.
