MPPD Ignores Missing 15 Year Old Girl

By Greg L | 19 June 2007 | Illegal Aliens, Manassas Park, Crime | 18 Comments

The fifteen year old granddaughter of a former Manassas Park Councilman has been abducted by a man named George (pronounced “Hor-Hay”) Roberto Reyes, and despite repeated pleas by her mother to the Manassas Park Police Department and Child Protective Services, she remains missing since about last November. Mr. Reyes is suspected to be an illegal alien living in the Deer Park Apartments on Caribou Lane in Manassas Park and is variously described as being either 23 or 33 years old.

This girl started having an affair with Mr. Reyes sometime around last Thanksgiving. She would leave home for days at a time and not tell her mother where she was going, and would sneak out of the house at night when her mother tried to keep her home. A friend of the family obtained Mr. Reyes phone number from the girl’s cell phone and spoke with him, and Mr. Reyes seemed concerned, didn’t want police attention, and said he would return the girl. That didn’t happen. Mr. Reyes later talked to a man named Jesus, to whom he said that the girl’s mother had “sold” him this girl in exchange for paying off her bills, a claim the mother flatly denies as outrageous. This girl hasn’t seen her mother in at least a month at this point.

The mother approached Child Protective Services and got some sort of court order that the girl shouldn’t be at Mr. Reyes’ home, which hasn’t been enforced. She’s contacted the Manassas Park Police Department for assistance, but none has been forthcoming. The mother is now concerned that she will be prosecuted for this situation, and has given up hope that law enforcement will help her recover her child. She is beyond distraught. The father, who is divorced from the mother, and whom has had some run-ins with law enforcement in the past, does not want to contact the police either.

Mr. Reyes is believed to drive a green van, and has a history of having relationships with underage girls in the area. The Manassas Park Police Department has been provided all of this information and more, yet Mr. Reyes is still at large and there doesn’t appear to be any active effort to locate him or this missing child.

If you have information which may lead to the recovery of this young girl and the arrest of this criminal, please contact me so I can pass it on to a law enforcement agency that will act on the information. I have avoided describing this girl or providing her name, which may perhaps be over cautious, but until I get better guidance on how to proceed I’m going to err on the side of caution. Those who may have information on this case are likely to know the identity of this girl without me revealing it.

That this situation exists is a total outrage. If the police will not protect our children from predators like this, they are less than useless.

You know, the State Police can be contacted by any citizen who is not being assisted to their satisfaction by their local law enforcement. As I recall, you can even contact them regarding a traffic accident, regardless of the presence of local law enforcement at the scene. For that matter, PWC or Manassas Police could be contacted…there are reciprocity agreements in place between the various police departments. That was why it was perfectly within the rights of the PWC Police to sit in the Manassas Park Shopping Center (which they did off and on for a short time) to discourage the Manassas Park Police from their policy of harassment of local citizens merely for going into a local establishment there (Rack N’ Roll). Unfortunately, they couldn’t do it for long…I guess they had some REAL police business to conduct, unlike their Manassas Park brothers.

Trying to do a little sleuthing, but running into some difficulty…

Caribou Lane - off of Liberia? Looks like single family houses - about 6.

Deep Park Apartments - can’t locate that

Is it Deer Park on Portner Ave? I’m not sure of all of the boundaries … is that Manassas City?

It’s Deer Park apartments. Thanks for pointing that out, and allowing me to correct the typo in the post.

I’m not too familiar with the area, so I’m not sure where it is.

Deer Park Apartments is very definitely in the City of Manassas. Sounds like the Manassas City Police need to be contacted.

Caribou Lane is over by Weems Elementary School. And there are no Deer Park Apartments in MP. Haverhill, yes, the nice ones by the train tracks, but not Deer Park.

Deer Park Apartments are located on Liberia and Portner Ave, just behind RebYank and Manassas Shopping Centers. Deer Park Apartments has a reputation, for renting to may law enforcement officers and it has kept those apartments very safe for years. Deer Park Apts. are still owned by the Breeden family, which built them. These are probablly the safest apartments around and have been for decades. There is quite a waiting list to get in there, people are safe there and don’t leave unless they have to. Deer Park has many renters that have lived there for decades. I do believe they have some illegals too, just not as many as other places in our county and 2 cities.

Law enforcement issues aside, why did this mother allow her underaged daughter to even come close to getting into a relationship with an older man? If this story is real, the mother should be held accountable for at least a part of it.

” The father….doesn’t want to contact the police either”

“The mother is now concerned that she will be prosecuted for this situation”

????????????????????? If it were my child I would be hitting the streets, newspapers, tv, knocking on doors….

    ” something’s fishy in Denmark”

Maybe the family is illegal also and they are afraid of what will happen to them if they raise to much of a stink. Although I agree, if it was my child, I would do everything possible to get her back.

citizenofmanassas- Unfortunately even if you do everything right as a parent, some kids you just can’t control. If you have a 23 or 33 year old male telling you what to do, especially if there is no male role model in your life, they will more than likely listen to that person.

I hope the mother wakes up and demands the police find her daughter! She is still under age, and as far as I can tell from this post, no one knows if she is okay or not.

Best wishes to the family of this girl and I hope she is found soon.

The first way for her to begin to get action is to get her facts in order:

If this guy lives in Deer Park Apartments, then:
    1. It is not in Manassas Park, it is in Manassas City
    2. Deer Park is not on or near Caribou Lane, so she may have the guy’s address wrong.

Taking care of #1 and #2 is the first step to solving this problem.

Maybe people are blowing her off as a bit nutty, since she can’t get these basics right. Not the correct thing to do, IMO, but certainly understandable that it happens when one has limited time and resources.

    Maureen,

“Maybe the family is illegal also and they are afraid of what will happen to them if they raise to much of a stink. Although I agree, if it was my child, I would do everything possible to get her back.”

The question that comes to mind is that this missing child is” a grandchild of a former Manassas Park councilman” which leads me to believe that the family is not illegal and would know the proper authorities to report too- having a FAMILY memeber involved in our local government. I TOO
have BEST WISHES for the family and I am not trying to sound
“better than thou” but this story has to many holes in it. If this is true and being a mother, and if this family is reading this, I would extend my hand in effort to find this child, just as I WOULD HOPE THAT ANYONE WOULD DO THE SAME FOR ME IF MY CHILD WAS MISSING….search party?

I saw that but I guess I was tired when I posted.

Update on the location of this suspect: The mother was given an address on Caribou Lane which turned out to be a fake address. Now the Deer Park apartments are considered the most likely place where Mr. Reyes is living.

Then it’s within the jurisdiction of the Manassas City Police?

This is in the City of Manassas. I’ve lived here my whole life, both Caribou and Deer Park are in the City. Does Cheif Skinner know about this???

    Maureen,

I understand how that can happen when a parent is not properly involved in the raising of their kids. Waiting until your child is a teenager before attempting to install values, morals, common sense, etc is a mistake. It takes many years of teaching and showing a child the right way and the wrong way of how to live life.

Here are my suggestions on what she should do, for what it’s worth:

    1. Contact Manassas City PD TODAY. Go, don’t call. Bring a large photograph of her daughter to leave with the police. Give them the FACTS that she has in writing. Give them a copy of the info from social services.

    2. This guy doesn’t seem to have a phone listing in his name. Go to Deer Park apartments and walk thru the units looking at mailboxes. Many have names on them, if this complex is like others. Write down ANY that are Jorge, George, Roberto, or Reyes. Type that info up and take it to the police.

    3. She should know today what the police are going to do. Keep us posted. They should go to the apartment office to see if the guy lives there.

    4. Watch the complex - every bit of time available. Have a camera, pen, and paper handy.

    5. Have the grandfather contact the “powers that be” in Manassas City government. They all have close connections.

Keep us posted. Our prayers are with this family.

The “grandfather” is actually a Grandmother, and passed away some time ago. I imagine if she were still alive, there’d be a lot more action on this case.
