Wolf Warns Colleagues On Power Lines

By Greg L | 21 June 2007 | National Politics, Prince William County | 3 Comments

Congressman Frank Wolf (VA-10) tried, but ultimately failed to amend an energy and water spending bill in the House of Representatives to prevent the designation of a large swath of Virginia, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, West Virginia and Delaware as a National Interest Electric Transmission Corridor and allow power companies to exercise eminent domain powers for years in these areas. In a 257-174 vote, the House defeated the amendment, leaving intact the power of the Department of Energy to overturn state and local government decisions. It’s an outrage that Delegate Bob Marshall and Supervisor John Stirrup have also been trying to correct.

Frank Wolf gave a dire warning to his colleagues during the floor debate, which seems eerily reminiscent of how little consideration some in the U. S. Senate have been giving to the concerns of their constituents on the proposed amnesty bill being considered in that chamber. While some, such as Frank Wolf seem to understand who they actually represent, apparently some others do not:

“How will you explain to your constituents … that you had a chance to slow this down and you didn’t do it?” Wolf said. “How are you going to tell them that you sided with the power companies and not with the citizens?”

Indeed. No wonder the approval ratings for our federal elected officials are so utterly and increasingly horrible. Hopefully Frank Wolf will get another shot at this soon, and his colleagues will take a look at their approval numbers and understand the wisdom of his arguments. Siding with the power companies on this issue after they’ve done such a poor job justifying why they actually need to run roughshod over state and local elected officials and the constituents they represent is insane, no matter how much money the power companies are willing to spread around in campaign contributions. Should these NIETC designations start to roll out across the country, votes like this are going to haunt a lot of legislators who will have plenty of constituents asking why they weren’t protected from this abuse when the opportunity was available.

Interesting, since Wolf and Davis both voted in favor of stripping states of their power to control electrical transmission. Has anyone asked them why they voted in favor of the original R sponsored legislation a few years back?

I’ve got no use for either Wolf or Davis. If they and their party had not been asleep at the switch for the last 20 years, 20 million + illegal aliens would not be in this country and we would not need infrastructure like these power lines.

I like Frank Wolf. He is responsive to the people he represents. He is the only one I know that actually sends a letter in response to even a phone call. I know because I’ve called his office on several issues and he always responds and sends a letter.

As far as illegals. He is only one representative. He was never in favor of this immigration bill but he can’t stop it alone. You need to talk to Senator Webb and Senator Warner. I’ll bet those who didn’t vote for Allen who don’t want amnesty will be reaping from the seeds they’ve sown which is the amnesty bill. For those of you who voted against Allen, shame on you. I guess at the time you didn’t think the immigration bill was a big deal. Well it is and if it passes we will all suffer thanks to you.
