Immigration reform is a hot button issue that has
aroused great angst and passion on all sides. My
business and political experience tell me that the
road to a resolution often begins with finding
some common ground. Besides the need to better
secure our borders, the next most obvious and
acknowledged is the adverse negative impact on
local government budgets and the need for federal
financial help to mitigate the cost of illegal/undocumented
immigration.
-New York Times last week: "The White House
noted that the positive impact tends to accrue to
the federal level, while net cost tend to be
concentrated at the state and local government level,
where education and health care are provided."
- WaPo today: "The federal government has authority
over who comes in this country ... but the people
who are responsible for helping them integrate and
acclimate are state and local governments" - Ann
Morse of the National Conference of State Legislatures.
- And I have a file folder full of more quotes on the same
issue - all I have shared with our Virginia
representatives in Washington - apparently to little
avail. The issue isn't unknown or disputed, but
there is nothing in the current bill that helps heavily
impacted communities like Manassas.
Hopefully, you will also share this concern when you
contact our representatives.
Thank you for your help.

Called 'em both.

Warner's DC office put me on hold, so after a couple of minutes I called his Richmond office and got right through.

Webb's DC office was busy but I called back a couple minutes later.

I asked both to vote against cloiture on that "god awful illegal alien amnesty bill".
