AWCheney, not a personal agenda, but a comparison.

There is a functional loving, church going family that lives in my neighborhood. Both parents served in the military. Over the years I watched the kids grow up and graduate H.S and all but one went off to college. Their oldest son isn't away at college because he is in prison. He gave someone a ride in his car, they were pulled over for suspected drag racing, the police found marijuana in the car. Large enough quantity to charge him with distribution. At 21 years old he went to prison, and has served 2 out of the 3 years. This is a smart kid that was bored. Both parents worki, and he wanted attention and yes, he broke to the law. He screwed up and he deeply regrets and misses his family.

If we need to make room in our jails, free up our police and court rooms to process illegal aliens, then lets do it!

The Muslim invasion in this country threatens the future of our children. My neighbors son shouldn't be in prison, he should be in the military fighting for our freedom.

No Anonymous, it's about the Libertarian agenda because illegal immigration has never been high on that radar. There are a lot tax dollars being spent on unnecessary and wasteful projects and programs throughout our Federal government and, I'm sure, that the "war on drugs" can be far more efficient (as can they all), but it's not the end-all financial reason that insufficient funds are available to enforce our immigration laws. It would be more logical to point the finger at "pork barrel" spending, the enormous increase in our budget devoted to our activities in the Middle East...any one of dozens of reasons our budget has gone out of control.

Good try, attempting to deflect the illegal alien issue into your own agenda, but I believe the readers here are sufficiently sophisticated and intelligent enough to recognize what you're doing.

correction...no longer help other countries.

This isn't about drugs it's about money. It's not about the effects of marijuana, or whether it's addictive, it's about taking back the money american's are spending away from the terrorist.

We're in war, a religious war.

Our enemy the Jihad vowed after 9-11 to bankrupt our nation. They have threatened to attack and cripple our economy. Google SKADA and Dr. Stephen Gale.

We have an infrastructure vulnerabilities that can take down our water treatment centers, stop our trains and knock out our electricity for months. The Jihad plan is that we will be ill prepared to remain on our own for up to 6 months. American's will run out of food, water and ammunition, but the illegals will run out of supplies first and attack the American's living in upscale neighborhood to rob and steal from them.

The illegals don't even know they are part of the Jihad plan to bankrupt and destroy our Nation so that we can longer help other countries, let alone ourselves. That is how they plan to invade and take over America. By 2020 they will dominate in America, force their Muslim religion on us and anyone who refuses will be forced to pay a tax to practive their religion. Then they will attack Israel.

Read the writing on the wall. This is serious. Our Federal government is in financial trouble! We do not have the money or resources to rebuild our power grids, update the MS DOS SKADA network that is connected to the
Internet, and we can't afford to enforce immigration.

We need to act now! http://www.drugsense.org/wodclock.htm

The U.S. federal government spent over $19 billion dollars in 2003 on the War on Drugs, at a rate of about $600 per second. The budget has since been increased by over a billion dollars.

That is 20 billion dollar a year that I want to be used to round up the illegals, deport them, seal our borders, rebuild our grids, upgrade our SKADA software, and protect our bridges. We must keep America safe from terrorist and illegal criminals. This is serious.

Tell me were else you can find 20 billion dollars are year in the budget?

I think people who support legalizing marijuana take the approach that is a harmless drug, like alcohol or tobacco. Well, unlike alcohol or tobacco, pot is far more addictive and alters cognitive reasoning, balance, judgment far beyond a few drinks or few smokes do. Smoking pot often leads to harder drug use. Allowing its use for even supposedly medical reasons is a sham -- it just gets people high so that they don't "feel the pain".

Along much the same vain people think that the presence of illegal aliens in this country is harmless ... and people may feel that about prostitution ... and graffiti. These are all symptoms of a far worse problem. The criminal activities of the past that most people know in their hearts "just aren't right" are being unenforced or diluted to give people "freedom of choice" , "liberty", "pleasure", and those are never reasons to decriminalize actions such as marijuana use, illegally crossing the borders, illegally hiring and being hired, prostitution, graffiti, abortion, child pornography, etc. There are victims for all of these -- even if the victim chooses to ignore the effects of his illegal activity, like in marijuana use.

Yeah,

The way to fight the illegal invasion is to legalize marijuana. Great thinking!

Why stop there? I'm sure the criminals who engage in other criminal activities want to have those crimes decriminalized. Where do we draw the line on what is a criminal act and what is not a criminal act. Just think of all the money we can save by ditching any number of crime laws. But at what price to society?

MJM reported that if police are instructed to inquire about legal status then immigrants will become victims of crimes that they will be unable to report.
Let's reapply that theory.

Our local government can’t afford to provide the additional police, jail space, and resources needed, and it appears that our Federal Government can’t either. So do we allow these criminals to roam freely in our society, use our hospitals, schools and not pay their fair share of taxes, or simply ignore it until they commit a felony before enforcing deportation?

Potomac News / Manassas Journal Messenger's columnist James Simpson wrote a very profound paragraph in his column recently about ending the war on drugs. If we end the war on drugs, then the same principle applies, addicts who need help can seek recovery without landing themselves in our jail system. We can end the overcrowding problem in our jails and prisons for the real criminals.

By decriminalizing marijuana alone, this country can save billions of dollars that can be redirected at stopping the illegal infiltration of aliens. Every day I read about multiple arrests for the possession of marijuana in the local newspaper.

It’s time to balance the budget and priorities of this nation. We spend money in this country like drunken solders, yet federal, state and local governments claim not to have the resources to enforce illegal immigration.

By taking away the need for a “black market” we stop funding terrorism, redirect federal spending to fight illegal immigration, permit elective medical use, and create a new source for taxable revenue.

In an attempt to validate my James Simpson / Charlie Dean inspired theory, with friends in the field of law, I was told it would never happen. Why, because the most powerful lobbyist groups in the world represent the interests of tobacco and alcohol, and they would never let it happend, to them it is a competitive threat.

James Simpson isn't alone, conservative journalist William F. Buckley spoke out publicly in support for legalization of marijuana years ago. Maybe it's time for America to decide what is best for us and not the over paid lobbyist who represent special interests groups.

There is a more simple solution.....whenever the police pulls anyone over....they can inquire about the individual's legal status and residency. That will create an equal situation no matter what ethnic group someone is from. Additionally, it takes away the race card argument.

I'm all for maintaining good relations with any ethnic community within the county -- so long as those people are LEGAL. Anyone who is not legal should be turned over to the federal authorities.

Please don't respond to this because honestly I honestly don't mean to change the thread, but the same thing applies, i.e., use of the race/nationality card against those who opposed first time and "block" Muslim voters (is THAT racist) earlier this month in the 51st District convention. I just hope America wakes up in time....whose country is this afterall?

Funny how the defenders of illegal immigration will attempt to use the race card and argue that it is unfair to assume every hispanic might be illegal against those that do not support it. Yet, the MJM only mentions the hispanic community in this editorial. Hmmm. It is not shocking of course to see that from the MJM, but nevertheless it is still funny to see them have the double standard working.
