William Day’s Big Oil Connection

By Greg L | 3 July 2007 | 31st HOD District | 7 Comments

Sometimes when you wander through the information provided by the Virginia Public Access Project, you run across something that really makes you scratch your head.  Candidate’s filings of their economic interests are showing up on VPAP, and the one for William Day, who is challenging Delegate Scott Lingamfelter to little avail, is reading like something out of Monty Python for it’s sheer absurdity.

William Day is one of those global warming crusaders that joined with Judy Feder in her “Declaration of Energy Independence” which vilified “big oil” and called for price controls on domestic oil and “windfall taxes” on the profits of energy companies.  He’s sort of like failed Democratic candidate Morris Myer, but without Myer’s likability or political acumen.  He’s also without a staff which might understand much about how to run a campaign.
Despite his deeply held personal convictions, William Day’s financial disclosures as reported on VPAP indicate that he has substantial financial holdings in ExxonMobil, Pioneer, Hunt Oil, Chevron and Texaco.  The remainder is mostly in paper mills and a single rental property.  If this guy is some sort of environmental crusader, his actions aren’t quite matching his rhetoric, but it should be interesting for a stockholder in “big oil” to talk about how “big oil” is destroying us and how they need to have all of their profits (and financial incentives) liberated for the greater good.

Judy Feder is probably going to be pretty pissed to have this fake in her coalition of fringe lefties, unless he manages to hypnotize her before she hears about this.  What a hypocrite.

…but Greg, don’t for a minute forget the commitment of his bellowing Republican opponent, Scott Lingamfalter!! “…and I ask, what are YOU going to do to put Faisal Gill in Richmond”? There is absolutely NO forgiveness for that kind of commitment! The problem is that he is NOT a hypocrit; he just doesn’t know any better. Another political race with no good options!

Hey Freedom, question. Do you know Lingamfelter? Have you ever spoken to him about Gill?

Sounds like you’re one of those internet “muscle boys” who like to rant but lacks the guts to speak to him directly…keyboards are no substitute for courage…

I looked up his office…(703) 580-1294…call him. I can tell you he is very approachable…

It seems very strange the PCW Democrats cannot come up with better candidates although any legitimate candidates would probably not challenge Lingamfelter because of the shape of the district and just the fact that it includes so much of Fauquier as well and Prince William.

This guy Day seems to be very odd. Its very hilarious that Day claims to be pro environment yet has all that oil money. This will sit real well with the far lefties.

No, Anonymous, I’ve not spoken to him about Gill, but I have listened to HIM speak to ME about Gill. I got his message, loud and clear; no need for a repeat — approachable or not! It’s not him I hope to convince, it’s the voters I’m talking to….

As my delegate, I think Scott has done a good job. He is always willing to look at new ideas and comes up with quite a few himself. The contrast between this well-rounded conservative and Mr. Day is stark.

Further, I don’t think we should look at every republican through the lens of the 51st District fiasco. That can only weaken us further.

Freedom, so I guess I’m right…you are an internet “muscle boy”…nested warmly in your own opinions, and afraid to talk to a guy you disagree with…

Oh no Lyle, I don’t think we should look at every Republican through the lens of the 51st District fiasco either…However, unlike Scott Lingamfalter, my kind of Republican does not sell himself for money…and in the process, contribute to giving up our seat in the HOD.

…and as for you, Mr Anonymous, I’m not afraid to talk to anyone. As I said earlier though, I have heard what HE has said, I know his position, and it’s not worth my time trying to change his mind…so, what’s the point in “talking with the guy”? :) :)
