Only One More Vote Needed
By Greg L | 10 July 2007 | Illegal Aliens, Prince William County | 18 Comments
The Manassas Journal-Messenger reports that Maureen Caddigan has weighed in in favor of John Stirrup’s proposed resolution regarding the county’s policies regarding illegal aliens today, putting four Supervisors pretty much on record of being in favor. Supervisor Nohe I expect will be in support the resolution, although after having a baby last week he hasn’t had much opportunity to talk about it. Supervisor May, who I had a chance to speak with before and who supports the general principle of the resolution says he wants to hear more from the citizens in the article. So at today’s Board of Supervisors meeting, we should make sure he has the opportunity to hear from as many of you as possible.
Be there if you can, at 2PM or 7:30PM.
We are one vote short of ensuring that county agencies comply with federal laws related to immigration. If we get a majority, it is very likely that other supervisors will fall in line such as Supervisor John Jenkins. If this passes with a solid majority when it’s voted upon (I expect on August 7th), this will establish a strong and durable mandate for responsible action to help address the problem of illegal aliens in the county.
It’s time to pour it on folks. Between now and the vote, the voice of the citizens needs to be heard. For more information on this, you might want to visit the Help Save Manassas issue page on this resolution.

I need her private e-mail. I have a VERY good reason why she might want to get a handle on this.
Is citizenship a requirement for a Virginia Driver’s License?
I spoke with Mike May yesterday, he’s on board, he just has a couple of concerns with the language of the proposal. He took the time to listen and talk with me for about 15 minutes, like Maureen Caddigan did. I know he understands, I’ve heard him express understanding and concern, he’s brought up two points, during Supervisors’ time, saying we’ve heard citizens today, and then he would address it(pushcarts&tallgrass). We also, talked about the number of foreclosure on the rise. I heard a devistating number(%) regarding foreclosures, he knows this also a problem for our community. I’ve heard both John J and Hilda express concerns over pushcarts, yet they seem to want to carry on with the way things are around here. Hell, John J told me “I know I have illegals in my District”, yet he doesn’t want to do anything, because it’s a “federal problem”, what cop out attitude, for such a bully.
WE MUST AND WILL PREVAIL TODAY!!!!
WE ARE THE LEGAL CITIZENS’ AND WE DESERVE THIS PROPOSAL AND SHOULD DEMAND OF THE PWCBOS.
GregL,
I’ll be at both citizens’ times!!
Anti Illegal,
Did you see my statement above? I’m NOT going away!!!!
Requirements for a VA Drivers License: http://www.dmv.state.va.us/webdoc/citizen/drivers/applying.asp
I thought THIS was an interesting paragraph from DMV’s website: “If you are under age 18, your parent or guardian must sign your application authorizing the Selective Service to register you when you turn age 18. Law prohibits DMV from issuing any type of driver’s license or photo ID card to an applicant who is required by federal law to register with the Selective Service but who refuses to authorize DMV to send his information to the Selective Service.”
Of course, this only applies to males under the age of 26 (Selective Service, that is).
Lafayette, you should not go away. I’m sorry about what I first wrote about you. Greg was right and I was wrong. Your comments are too raw for me but maybe that is because of how bad things are in your community and not that you are a racist. My mom and two grandparents are Hispanic (legal) and scared. I overreacted.
Finally you get it! This is not about racism. It’s about a group of people whether they be black, brown, yellow, orange, green or purple that take over an entire area, convert an existing culture to their own seemingly overnight, acting like the country owes them everything and that we should all bend to accommodate them. I’m sorry, but I for one hate living in an overcrowded neighborhood with blowing trash for lawn decorations, thug kids playing ball in the street and in MY yard, and people doing their major mechanical work in front of their townhouse in their parking spots. Nuts to that, regardless of race or religion.
Freedom, in addition to the link that John Light put up, we did some additional digging on that over on Virtucon, too.

The DMV has a whole section just on legal presence and also lists the requirements under the Real ID Act of 2005. Basically, so long as you are legally in the U.S., you can obtain a license or at least an ID card. Would seem to be a pretty straightforward way to me to determine legal status for anything.
“I’m sorry, but I for one hate living in an overcrowded neighborhood with blowing trash for lawn decorations, thug kids playing ball in the street and in MY yard, and people doing their major mechanical work in front of their townhouse in their parking spots.”
I may have asked you this before, but do you live in Belmont Station? There are only three other townhouse communities in MP, if I recall correctly–wonder if they’re all the same with regards to the blowing trash, etc.
Your description certainly sounds like Belmont Station.
Question for anonymous or anyone who knows MP -
Belmont Station is a mess? Really? I haven’t been there in about 5 years, but it used to be beautiful. High end townhouses and meticulously maintained. That’s a real shame if it’s a mess. It’s not an old neighborhood - built in the 90s.
I live in Mosby Ridge II. Up until 2 years ago it was a great place to live. Now it is like every other place in the park that is under siege. Blowing trash, out of control kids, cars with busted out windows, screen doors on houses that aren’t allowed to have them under condo association rules; rules which are never enforced I might add.
We just had three of our townhouses in this development burn down this past Saturday which adds to the ever increasing blight of the neighborhood. Very frustrating living in this town with incompetent politicians and police looking the other way.
We have been looking up in Belmont Station - yeah, it’s cramped, with unassigned parking in much of the area. There are also some gorgeous, new townhomes just off Carondelet with more parking, but it is like betting which way the neighborhood will go. We want to move to that side of town, but unlikely in that neighborhood. But unless overcrowding is effectively addressed, there is no point in moving at all.
“We have been looking up in Belmont Station - yeah, it’s cramped, with unassigned parking in much of the area.”
And here’s the story with that:
When Belmont Station was built, the developer allowed two (2) parking spaces per unit.
The garage units got their garage and their driveway as their two parking spaces. Now it should be pointed out that this was perfectly fine with the Planning Commission AND the City Council. The other units got two on-street parking spaces.
Well, several years later a lawsuit happened, and the VA Supreme Court determined that this arrangement is not legal because the garage townhomes were not getting the same thing for their HOA dues that the non-garage townhomes were: That is, two parking spaces on common grounds.
So the Belmont HOA has declined to assign parking spaces for that reason. All that they could do is assign one common area parking space per unit and the non-garage homeowners are not happy with that–they want two spaces, but there are not enough common-area spaces to give all the units two spaces.
By the way, the Belmont Station HOA has started towing vehicles that are parked improperly. There was a lot of complaining from people when they finally started enforcing the rules. Much like the situation with illegal aliens.
I just saw on the news that a watered down version passed. Charlie Deane comes off as a real scum bag and it was obvious that he was totally against the resolution. They also showed all of the illegals protesting outside. I forget where in the constitution it says that people illegally here in this country have the same rights that citizens do.
I wouldn’t characterize the resolution as “watered down” at all. Supervisor Stirrup was kind enough to consult with Help Save Manassas members regarding proposed changes to the resolution, and there were no changes to the resolution which Help Save Manassas found objectionable. All of the changes made sense, don’t negatively impact the force of this resolution, and helped to make action now, rather than on August 7th, possible.
Look at the resolution that passed, and compare it to what was initially proposed, and you’ll see that in all respects it substantially is the same. We had to hold back on the writ of mandamus provisions in order to get this to a vote today, but we can revisit that when this gets codified through ordinances.
Anti-Illegal
Thank you for the apology. Apology, accepted. I hope you’ve read some of my postings. I grew up next door to German immigrant. I moved straight accross the street, three years ago, I now live next door to another German immigrant. I’d like say they are both US Citizens, and have been for about 35 years. I did have a Guatamalan, family next to me, parents were here legally and their children were born here. She was an awesome neighbor, for twenty years. Last summer, she moved to New Bristow Village. She told me she was moving, because she didn’t like how Westgate had changed. This was heartbreaking to me as a PW native of the same block. I have lived my entire life next legal immigrants. So, with that said, I do feel for legal immigrants, that have taken the legal path. I’m very passionate about my community. 8 YES VOTES, it’s a great night!
Thank you, JL and Riley for your information concerning Driver’s License requirements.
Presuming that the DMV is doing its job according to its own rules, it seems to me that lack of a Driver’s License by any person over the age of 16 who is driving in the state of Virginia should certainly “raise a red flag” as to legal residency of that person in this country.
Of course, that would not be an absolute test; there are those who do not have a license to drive. However, it seems to me that the simple quetion “Do you have a Driver’s License?” should go a long way toward verifying legal residency without the need for further questioning.
