Victory In Prince William!

Today the Prince William Board of County Supervisors unanimously adopted Supervisor John Stirrup’s proposed resolution which would reform county policies for agencies interacting with illegal aliens. It was the most heavily attended board meeting in twenty years, featured an influx of protesters, and resulted in a strong victory for the rule of law and the effort to preserve our communities.

Mexicanos Sin Fronteras was again out there to protest, which resulted in some interesting lobbying strategies being displayed. Here one young boy is holding a sign that says “stop racist politicians”, which I doubt, had any of the supervisors seen this, would have swayed them a whole lot.

Next, another protester seems to think that it’s a good idea to start calling folks racists in Spanish at the same time citizens are telling the Board of County Supervisors how little they think of having their communities transformed into barrios where English isn’t used. It’s nice to have these folks out there proving our point, though.

And finally, here’s another one which is not terribly likely to convince supervisors to support the position of the illegal alien lobby. Even if you decide to use English, knucklehead, revising American history which you obviously don’t understand very well isn’t going to earn you a whole lot of support.

Chris Royse, Republican candidate for Woodbridge supervisor, waited in line at to be the first speaker at citizen’s time and lead off with a strong statement in support of the resolution. Other speakers followed, many of which were local residents expressing support for the resolution. There were a few speakers who opposed the resolution and predictably played the “racist” card, and a wildly misinformed representative from the Puerto Rican Legal Defense and Education Fund who even called this locality “Princess William County”.

After about 120 speakers had their say, and the county executive, police chief and head of the jail board gave their presentations, it started to become clear that this was going to receive unanimous support. I knew we had all of the supervisors we needed in order to pass this, and figured that John Jenkins and Hilda Barg would swing to support this measure based on the changes in the resolution’s language and the political problems that might be associated with being the only votes in opposition to this resolution. When the vote was cast, the protesters rallied outside while the supervisors took a break to hold a press conference.

The supervisors had a pretty busy day, without any real opportunity for a break because of the time it took to get through citizen’s time. As soon as they completed the afternoon’s agenda, it was time again for citizen’s time for the evening session. Thanks to all of them for allowing all those who wished to speak and putting in a long day in service to our county.

Now the debate moves into the implementation details, which are certain to draw a fair amount of public discussion. Ordinances to codify today’s policy statement will have to be drafted and will significantly impact what the real effects of this policy change will be.

Help Save Manassas started only a few months ago, and played a significant part in making today’s victory possible. With a strong contingent of citizens who will back up supervisors who want to take action on this important issue, we’re seeing a lot of courage displayed by the Board of Supervisors who now are certain that they’ll get all the support they need. While the local affiliate of the Zapatista Army of National Liberation might still dominate regional news coverage, the actual voters are organized and active within this local grassroots effort, and now supervisors know that if they promote solutions for this problem, there’s a strong contingent of citizens who will ensure they get everything they need in order to be successful.

This is a good day for Prince William County, and a good day for the now 481 members and pending members of Help Save Manassas.

    I want to thank Supervisor John Stirrup for having the courage to put forth this resolution. It’s a great first step in combating the illegal alien problems in the area.

    It was a long eventful day at the BOCS meeting. There was the same old rhetoric about suing the county. It was also stated that they would tie this up in litigation until they were all LEGAL.

    It will be interesting to see what the next few days hold and what we find on the net about this.

I hope this sends a loud and clear message out to all illegals in PWC, Manassas and Manassas Park - and this is only the beginning!!! As they like to go thru boxes when put out for trash days, to see what they can take, lets all set out our luggage items for them to use to help them on their way back to their own country !!!! We’ll stand up to the ACLU and any other idiot agency that tries to stop what is going to be accomplished.     Greg, can you post the text of the revised resolution? Not having been there it’s hard to figure out what really happened. Following CW’s posts it looks like the supervisors actually wimped out and passed some watered down thing just so they could act like they did something. Taking out the writ takes out all the teeth and makes this nothing more than a rehash of the current law which isn’t enforced so that makes me think the illegal lobby really won. There are other posts though that thank God for a great victory for us.

    Did you read the resolution, we got nothing but bad press. The police are already turning over the really bad ones to ICE. Stirrip’s resolution was neutered by the feds. We have only increased the number of legal hispanic voters at the next election.

    Actually, I’m quite heartened by the whole thing. The resolution as passed lost most of the really destructive and costly components that caused me concern. I don’t think the status quo ante changed very much, and I’m please that so many of you think that you got somewhere when so little substantive happened. Your Supervisors, by taking the substance out of this (and troublesome stuff it was) and your County staff saved you from your worst instincts and I think you can be very grateful. So, on this point, I feel hugely relieved.

    We have a serious national problem with illegal immigration folks. Fluff like this won’t do much but give you a way to vent. If you really want to make a difference, get behind comprehensive federal immigration reform and lose the nasty rhetoric.

    COM: I think I have been punctiliously polite. I was in South Africa during apartheid, but, until you mentioned it, had not seen the connection between this and that particular blot on humanity. If there is any link, it is in the heavy police presence that was required to keep that system intact, something that may have subconsciously influenced my concern over the degradation of your police force (which I think is a damned fine force that has weathered extreme growing pain issues very well) had the resolution passed in its original form. I know a great deal about Nazi Germany (not from direct experience) and made no connection there either. I don’t recall calling anyone a racist or bigot, either, although the utterances of some folks on this site and elsewhere might serve to disguise the fact that they were without any animus toward persons of foreign origin or Hispanic descent.

    Park’d: I was just going by the wording of what passed compared to what Stirrup introduced. If there are secret codicils or something not transparent to the average internet navigator, my sense of relief may be misplaced. You may be right that we should all spend more time with the final language.

    This is a victory and now there is alot more work to be done.
    ICE has to substantially increase # of detainers and deportation
    from PWC, maybe camps should be built to house the illegals until we can get them the hell out of here.

    It’s about time! As a Prince William County resident for the past 25 years, I’m very proud of my Supervisor, Maureen Caddigan, and the rest of the Prince William County Board of Supervisors for approving the illegal immigration resolution. The key word here is “illegal”, not immigration. The resolution would not affect anybody who came to this country and became a legal citizen. It is disheartening that so many people were misinformed about the intent of the resolution.

    I did not say you used those names, but the majority of folks who support illegals and open borders do so. You failed to call them out, and I called you on it.

    The police will be just fine. As I said, twenty years ago, we did not have cyber crime. We do now, and many police departments have officers dedicated to fighting it, and it has not had any impact on how they serve the public. It has not caused any officer shortage or caused any type of inconvenience.

    The excuse by those that support illegals that the police department will be negatively impacted is just a fear tactic without any facts to back it up.

    NO VA Scout. All this time, I thought “NoVA” stood for “Northern Virginia”. It turns out that it’s really spanish for “No Go”.

    If we continue to listen to the likes of “No Go”, we will get nothing done. He says it’s a Federal Issue, and we shouldn’t do anything locally. We’ve seen what the Fed will give us: Amnesty, and more illegal aliens.

    Perhaps the more contentious language was modified, and we won’t get a supreme court test case. What we have is the BOCS going on the record, telling illegal aliens “You are not welcome in PWCS”. I would venture that many of these will self deport to MD, Arlington, Falls Church, and Manassas Park. What it also proved is that the BOCS will not knuckle under to threats of lawsuits from the open-borders groups, the ACLU, and “No Go” Scout.

There is no way our police, much less our county employees, are going to enforce anything unless we make them. This revised resolution doesn’t change anything. What the hell is this 90 day period and then a work session! THAT MEANS THERE WILL NOT BE ANYTHING DONE UNTIL AFTER THE NOVEMBER ELECTION. WAKE UP, PEOPLE!     I am really suprised at how good-time-charlie was correct on previous threads. I was stunned to hear how increadibly bad the Prince William County Police Chirf sounded. He was a very poor speaker. Im suprised he is the head of such a large and visible agency in that growing county.

    What you people in PWC really need to be concerned about is when your non-elected bureaucrats start pushing such an obviously political statement. He was saying how “taxes will increase” because of such a policy. That is outrageous. Taxes will continue to increase if you do nothing about the quality of life in your county - like making it unpleasant to illegal aliens.

    - Our “representatives” revealed their true colors when they removed the mandamus section from the resolution. They don’t trust the citizenry to enforce the laws. They think we’re too dumb to be entrusted with that responsibility. We’ve got to keep on their tails. Eternal vigiliance is the ….

    - The state legislature is where this battle should be waged. It seems that the biggest stumbling block at that level is the state senator from Virginia Beach named Stolle. Tell all your friends in that area to get rid of the S.O.B. When you go to Virginia Beach, display a bumber sticker that says, “Dump Stolle” (make your own stickers are available at “makestickers.com”).

    - Stay tuned in. Together we can take back this county and this Commonwealth and restore the Rule of Law. One way or another.

    Remember, Wars are won, one battle at a time. This was simply the first. There will be many others. The BCOS acted correctly. Pass what you can pass, and build upon that as you move forward. By changing this to a resolution, they were able to act without a public hearing.

    If we are to beat the well-organized, Liberal/Socialist/Marxist open-borders lobby, we are going to have to work smart. This was smart.

    We have won our first, major fight. But there is yet a long way to go. I would encourage all of us to be gracious in this victory. Though not a perfect fit, I am reminded of Lincoln’s words from his 2nd Inaugural Address in March of 1865. For me, they capture the spirit of where I personally want to be, and remain, in our efforts to reclaim our communities and our culture:

    How can a chief of police be removed? What is the mechanism? I sure would like to see it happen. He was making comments yesterday about Sean Connaughton whom he was tight with. I believe he is totally against Corey Stewart and would undermine him any time he can. I was pleased with Maureen Caddigan’s comments. It is good to see our supervisors have a spine. It was very intimidating there and I am sure it took guts to vote as they did. I am glad they all voted for it.

    You are right to express outrage with your city council in Manassas Park, as they have done nothing regarding illegal aliens. However, the City of Manassas is run by honest, solid and effective councilmen. Even now, they are moving to enforce laws which will clean up the city, and deal with the illegal issue. I point to their efforts to get the push-cart vendors and taco trucks off the streets.

    I speak for Manassas Park only and echo what i have heard about Manassas City since my Mom lived there for years until just recently when she sold her house because she couldn’t take it any more. I am glad that they are FINALLY taking steps there at least. MP has been proven time and time again on this very blog and elsewhere to be corrupt and you can come to the park and see for yourself how they ignore illegals and allow the town to become one huge trash dump. I roll by at least 3 taco vendors on my street alone on the way home from work. It is business as usual in the park and it needs to stop.

    You have to understand that when a situation gets this bad that the legal citizens are going to group all officials together and label them as corrupt and uncaring even if not all of them are. If you aren’t part of the solution then you are part of the problem. They get paid to enforce laws and prevent this type of wild west behavior and right now the entity itself has failed us in the park. That doesn’t mean that all the officials are corrupt, but obviously someone there in power wants things to continue the way they are.

    I agree with those who say this is a victory, but only one battle won with more to go. Several of the more restrictive actions the Board would have liked to have taken yesterday would have required a public hearing and advance public notice. The BOCS did what they legally could yesterday. That does not preclude them from additional actions.

    One thing to remember with Chief Deane — he bends like a willow to public pressure. If he sees the writing on the wall from the supervisors that his job may be in jeopardy, you can bet that he’ll actually start making sure that the law is being enforced. It is just very annoying that getting him to enforce the law is like pulling teeth.

    We need a police chief who protects his citizenry - not one who bends to what he perceives to be the prevailing winds. In other words, we need a person of integrity and conviction. He’s beyond being annoying. He’s violated the public trust and not lived up to his oath of office. He’s gotta go.

    I am delighted to say that I was wrong about Wally and Marty on BVBL earlier. Both came through for us and deserve the thanks of both their supporters and those who have been critical of them in the past.

    Even more remarkable were Jenkins and Barg coming through. I had written them off entirely but when the people yelled loudly enough even they had to listen.

    Everyone needs to remember, however, that overdevelopment is the greatest root cause of the illegal alien problem. Developers hire thousands of illegals at less-than-poverty level wages, thus under pricing legitimate American workers (citizens and resident aliens with the right to work). Those illegal aliens then overcrowd houses in our neighborhoods and demand services that we pay for. This is another way taxpayers subsidize the development industry. Hopefully, the Board’s actions yesterday will start to remedy some of these problems.

    Wally, Marty and the others who have traditionally voted pro-developer in the past need to keep in mind the respect they earned yesterday. When comprehensive plan amendments and rezonings start coming up again (as they surely will when the real estate market comes out of its down cycle) we need for them to continue voting in the interests of the citizens and taxpayers as they did yesterday. Walking this path will solidify the admiration citizens have for them now.

    Chief Deane must go! I was offended at his allegations that passing the resolution would cause PWC to be seen as a “racist” community, engender vigilantism, cause a political atmosphere in PWC akin to that prevailing over Iraq, raise taxes, etc. (all this and more was in his remarks – just watch the rebroadcast). He has repeatedly stated that passing this resolution would destroy the trust the Police Department has with the illegal community. What about the trust the legal community no longer has for him? Moreover, he was implying that all of us who supported John’s resolution are racists, potential vigilantes or worse.

    The BOCS passed the resolution so I would guess that to avoid being a hypocrite Chief Deane will resign. Why would he want to serve in a community where such dire “unintended consequences” that he finds morally objectionable are taking place?

    The key to the Board’s action yesterday succeeding is enforcement by the Police Department and other County service providers. Nationally, we have many good, solid immigration laws on the books. They are not working because our Federal Government refuses to enforce them. If the Chief does not feel he can vigorously carry out the wishes of the BOCS and the overwhelming majority of PWC citizens, he needs to move on so we can hire someone who can.

    Finally, our community owes overwhelming thanks to Supervisor Stirrup and to Greg. John Stirrup took the risky action of stepping forward on behalf of the citizens and taxpayers in PWC against the special interest groups (the pro-illegal alien and open borders lobby, and business interests that want the cheap labor). Greg, more than anyone else, led the citizens in this effort. Without Greg’s leadership getting citizens involved and putting pressure on the members of the BOCS we might not have had a majority, much less unanimous support for John’s resolution!

For example, Mexico deports more illegal immigrants than the USA. Does that make Mexicans racists?     For all of you out there who are members of Help Save Manassas (and for everyone else for that matter) this once again goes to the drum that I have been beating since the beginning.

    We have to grow our ranks to their potential!

    We had a solid turnout yesterday and I’m confident that that was instrumental in winning this first battle. But we must demand greater responsiveness from our elected officials and to do so we must expand our reach deep into the county. As we are now closing in on the 500 member mark, I note that we have too small a representation from Manassas Park and Woodbridge. There are thousands of county residents out there just waiting to be tapped on the shoulder and told about HSM. Please, please sign up more members and get those applications moving. Send out emails to your friends and relatives that live in the city or county and get them on board. Keep flyers and applications in your car or your work cube.

    Any other ideas for spreading the HSM gospel to the nth degree would be welcome at vp@helpsavemanassas.org.

    I don’t want to be so cynical as to suspect political CYA in the stripping of some of the teeth out of the resolution, but apparently the PWC BOS has not yet felt enough heat from their constituents. To do that effectively, we really need to kick our membership drive into high gear.

    Don’t get me wrong. I am thrilled to see us standing victorious as the smoke clears from the field of battle. But there is a long war ahead and we are going to need more troops.

    I’ll wrap my blather with a little gem from Churchill:

    Why would you be offended if someone questioned if you are a legal resident? Please explain why some take such issue with this question. If one is a legal resident of this country they have nothing to worry about. I will gladly provide any proof of residency that the police request .

    I agree there may be law suits ahead but doing nothing is more expensive. Our schools, hospitals, etc are being drained and it will only get worse if we don’t take action. I don’t know where you reside but if you question my comments you need only to visit PW Hospital or any one of the Manassas City public schools.

    All that aside, the resolution was passed because the citizens of PWC are fed up with the situation and are willing to do whatever it takes to regain their quality of life.

    As a City resident, I would certainly like to see our own Council step up to the plate as the BOCS has done. Why not pass a similar resolution?? PRONTO!!

    I want to KNOW beyond a shadow of a doubt,that my elected officials, Police Chief, et al., absolutely, without a doubt, concur with the BOLD move of the BOCS and see us send the same signal!! However many times and however long it takes to get the message out there….

    Given that the City is sitting smack dab in the middle of PW Co, ground zero if you will in this battle, I think it would be RIGHT NEIGHBORLY, at the VERY LEAST, to endorse the CO resolution ASAP.

    A unified front, some solidarity, is what it’s going to take to return us to the rule of law. One jurisdiction at a time.

    I’m sorry that the feds have failed to secure our borders, but thank goodness Prince William Co. is securing its borders and sovereignty.

    Now it’s time for Manassas City to do likewise!!

    Why are we letting Cheif Deane say negative things about law abiding American citizens. His comments yesterday were so inappropriate that they bordered on liable.

    He accused those of us that want him to enforce the laws as potential racists and vigilantes. NOT once did he say how the other side will react. The illegal alien apologists blocked the stairway, the hallway leading outside and to the bathroom yesterday and they were allowed to, until it was complained about.
    They clapped when everyone was told not to and I’M not so sure they would have been stopped if their actions weren’t complained about.

    So you see, there are two sets of rules and laws in America. Those for the ones who have already broken the law by coming here illegally and one for the AMERICAN citizens.

    Our laws and regulations aren’t being enforced on the Hispanic population because those who do will then be called racists and also be accused of profiling.

    Enough is enough and Deane needs to be taken to task for his comments. I for one plan to call the Supervisors and let them know I feel Deane needs to give a public apology to all of us who want the right thing done.

I will be adding to this blog this evening about my Charlie Deane thoughts but I will say now is PWC citizens must unite to ride themselves of a Chief of Police that cares more about what the non boting illegals think that those who can vote. Guess that’s because the illegals can’t run to the BOCS and ask for his removal.

    Unfortuantely my husband worked for Charlie Deane for far too long. I can tell you first hand that Charlie Deane has no integrity or conviction for what is right,and he has not lived up to his oath for who knows how long. My husband gave his heart and soul to Charlie Deane’s Dept., he worked hard and well for the citizen of PWC and PWCPD every single day. Our children sacrificed many holidays, birthdays, and special occasions without their dad because he was serving and protecting. We accepted that sacrifice very proudly. Did he ever get a thank you from his Chief for the many cases he solved, the many extra unpaid hours of paperwork time, the countless officers he trained, the multitude of hard criminals he sent away for long/life terms? No, what he got was a certificate for “Officer of the Month” that was literally printed UPSIDE DOWN. He wasn’t looking for praise, he was serving proudly. What did his dedicated service get him? Nothing but headache and discontent from Charlie Deane. The harder he worked (without complaint), the more criminals he arrested, the less respect Charlie Deane had for him.
    I sat before the Chief one day and what I can tell you is he doesn’t know the meaning of integrity. He takes more pride in drumming out the officers that really want to serve and protect the citizens of PWC and reward those that are cowards and do not “rock the boat”. What I saw and heard over the years were that officers in PWCPD that want to be promoted will never do anything other than what Deane tells them to do. I will bet that officers will not ask illegals about their status because Chief Deane doesn’t want to upset the hispanic community. He is about avoiding conflict, not doing the right thing.
    I thought one of the proudest days of my life would be my husband’s retirement service from PWCPD after many many years of service. Unfortuantely thanks to Charlie Deane the proudest day of my life is when my husbad came home from work and told me he had just resigned from the PWCPD.
    (Not just because I am his wife) I can tell you that PWC is missing out on one of the best cops the county has ever seen thanks to your current Chief. My husband wouldn’t be afraid to ask an illegal to prove his status. He would enforce what is right and good for the citizens of PWC.
    After more than a decade of service to PWCPD at least I can say “Thanks Charlie Deane for giving my kids their father back, too bad he missed their early years for you!”
    Believe me he will NOT change the day to day operations of the way his officers handle (or don’t handle) the illegals that live in PWC.

    Three months ago, I was doing about foreclosure searches per week. I do work for of the busiest, if the busiest title companies doing work in Prince William County.

    If what is being said on this blog is halfway true I would be stunned. If it is true he basically told his 8 bosses that they are a bunch of racists (since all 8 voted for the resolution).

    I would have to say that takes courage. I dont agree with him at all, but if he said it you must compliment him for his convictions.

    Please thank your huisband on behalf of the community for his service to the citizens of Prince William county.

    I think a few officers will let us know anonymously of course what is happening with this directive. We all need to keep on top of this and hold Deane accountable if he doesn’t do the right thing.

    Maybe if Deane knows he is being watched by the citizens in the area he will start to toe the line.

    I wasn’t looking for a thank you but I will pass it along. Rest assured he proudly serving you all and will still be doing so if not for Charlie Deane and the personal strife he caused.

    Please keep on top of this, Chief Deane and some his senior staff’s time has come to an end. With new leadership I think PWC will come out on top of this battle.

    Chief Deane does not like being watched or questioned. I personally demanded a meeting with him to question his tactics. He will cave to pressure. Caving doesn’t make for a great leader however.

    My largest concern is for the police themselves. PWC is becoming a very dangerous place to patrol. He needs to step down and let someone who is going to protect your dedicated officers from certain dire consequences if things continue on his path.
    Save the county from this man, let no one’s service to PWC be in vain.

    I agree that the Manassas City council needs to (at a minimum) endorse the BOCS resolution. Everywhere I go in the City illegal aliens are the topic. Not the topic of intelectual debate, rather the topic of misery, anger and frustration. Maybe we could even expand the sign ordinance to be English Only! And as much as I’ll miss the Good Humor man, good ridance to the taco trucks and delicatos push carts!

    I know someone in Wellington who says he counted 21 kids this past weekend in a single home across the street from him (plus adults). I gave him the HSM website Greg; hopefully he’ll follow through.

    It is about time we stop pandering to the illegal immigrants. I am totally in favor of backing any legal immigrant. But those whom are here that shouldnt be, should be deported.

    I am also totally against the influx of spanish language in Prince William county. English is our language, if you cant speak it, get out.

    Please let me know how to help fight this influx of illegals.
