Congressional Democrats Desperate Sell-Out

By Greg L | 3 August 2007 | National Politics, Illegal Aliens | 14 Comments

What lengths will House Democrats go to protect their agenda of providing illegal aliens with taxpayer-funded benefits? Late last evening they demonstrated that there really aren’t any limits. They’ll apparently vote on measures after voting is closed in an attempt to change the outcome, and even erase from the House record that a vote happened if they don’t like the result. While we continue to progress in educating legislators about the necessity of controlling the enormous number of illegal aliens in our communities, Congress still doesn’t get it, even after being bombarded with an historic volume of angry calls from outraged citizens.

Incidents like this are clearly what is driving the unprecedented levels of public disgust with the performance of our federal elected officials:

Details remain fuzzy, but numerous Republicans argued afterward that they had secured a 215-213 win on their motion to bar undocumented immigrants from receiving any federal funds apportioned in the agricultural spending bill for employment or rental assistance. Democrats, however, argued the measure was deadlocked at 214-214 and failed, members and aides on both sides of the aisle said afterward.

One GOP aide saw McNulty gavel the vote to a close after receiving a signal from his leaders – but before reading the official tally. And votes continued to shift even after he closed the roll call - a strange development in itself.

If Congress is determined to do everything it can to enrage the electorate in this way, the next Congressional elections might end up being a bloodbath for many incumbents. I can easily see all sorts of grass-roots organizations forming dedicated to removing from office those elected officials who will break any rule they can in order to sell out out country to illegal aliens.

Bearing Drift has the video. Unbelievable.

UPDATE: One congressman that apparently “gets it” is John Culberson, which had this to say about this irresponsible sham:

We are adding a monstrous and inexcusable financial debt on the backs of our children. You are taking away Medicare coverage from seniors and allowing states to give it to illegal aliens. This is outrageous, inexcusable, and unaffordable.

I will stand and fight here as long as it takes to protect the treasury and the taxpayers of this country from irresponsible, irresolute, spendthrift practices of the Majority of this House.

It is a dangerous sign that the Democrat Majority is attempting to shove this bill through this Congress with very little debate and very little sunlight. If they won’t let you read a bill or if they won’t let you talk about it, it is sure to contain lots of problems.

H.R. 3162 would provide at least $132 billion in new entitlement spending. To pay for some of the spending increases, the bill would raise taxes and reduce Medicare coverage for senior citizens. Despite promises of a transparent “more open House,” this 471 page bill did not go through the traditional committee process and no amendments will be allowed.  This is outrageous.

The American people spoke before by email, by fax, by phone. The next time we speak will be at the polls! So, for those politicians that are deaf, maybe seeing your defeat in print will open your eyes instead!

Actually, the bill that takes money from the Medicare Advantage program for seniors in order to pay for illegal alien healthcare is the SCHIP bill that passed earlier this week. This bill from last night was the Agriculture appropriations bill and extends food stamps and housing assistance to illegal aliens.

Food stamps, of which at least 43% of illegal aliens already partake, and housing assistance when 60% of the occupants of HUD housing are already illegal aliens. You know what they’re doing, don’t you? The enforcement of the law is the only thing that localities can do to address the problem…so they’re changing the law.

    AWCheney,

Do you have a official source for your percentages of illegal aliens on food stamps (at least 43%) and using public housing (60%)? By official source, I mean a government URL or a vetted academic study or similar rather than a quote from an anti-illegal alien website.

I ask because on the blog Bacon’s Rebellion someone pointed out that he had never been able to find an actual government source for the list of crime statistics constantly pasted and repasted about illegal aliens and outstanding warrants in given places with a heading that reads FBI/INS. The person on BR also pointed out that the list, allegedly reflecting 2006 statistics, refers to the INS when the INS ceased to exist three years ago. Despite the dozens of times I have seen that list cut and pasted, I also have never once seen a government source although it claims to be government statistics. It seems odd that the government would use INS when it doesn’t exist.

    Thank you.

2005 statistics Anon…2006 statistics are not yet available. I really have little doubt that the statistics are fairly accurate, but I’ll take up the challenge and confirm them. I have some resources there…I’ll get back to you.

Thank you AWCheney, and if you come across a government citation for the crime thing that everyone quotes as well, that would be great.

That dubious info is discussed on BR here:

    http://baconsrebellion.blogspot.com/2007/07/more-immigrants-less-crime.html

There is information on a study that makes intuitive sense, ie. that the native born are much more likely to be involved in crime than
    others.

    PLEASSEEE Greg…….
Democrats are not the only ones blocking illegal immigrant reform. Stop or you will lose some support. This is one of the least partisan issues since the American Revolution. I could accuse Republicans of keeping it alive for economic reasons, but know that would not be fair to all Republican. Could you just stick to the problem and not generalize.

[Ed note: if I fail to throw rocks at Republicans (like John McCain) when they fail us on this issue, let me know. See http://www.bvbl.net/index.php/2007/06/13/send-george-bush-to-gitmo/ for an example.]

Anon, I will look into it and get some of those “hidden” .gov links that might account for this data. It’s after 5 pm on a Friday (LONG past bureaucratic workday) and, though I’ll be able to contact my source at any time, I don’t know how long it might take him to find the information. If I don’t post this weekend on it, email me through Greg Letiecq and have him forward it to me (I don’t want to post my address publicly…did that once, much to my regret) and we can set up a dialogue and I can get you the information.

There were cuts to medicare plus, not traditional medicare. The tax increases attached to the bill are on cigarettes.

I too have searched for those INS/FBI statistics and so far have not found them. I’ve called one person that had these figures on his site and he never returned my call. I’ve also called the DOJ for information they gave me two numbers to call. One was a recording and wasn’t any help and the other is a fax number I need to fax the information I’m looking for to.

AWC please let me know also if you find out something, because if they exist, they are extremely hard to find.

I’ll email you as well as soon as I get any information, Maureen, and I know they are hard to find…that’s why I’m asking for help. If they exist, my source will either be able to find them or will know somebody who can.
