Thank you Mr. Maggoo...

besides our jails are far nicer than the housing many illegals had in their native country. Dirt floors, no running water, no hear or A/C, tht's the living conditions in their native country. Too bad the liberals won't let us provide them accomodations similar to their native country.

'The foreign jails are not as nice as “PWC PALACE”.'

Since these illegal aliens want to impose their culture upon us, why don't we oblige them by putting them in jails like the ones they have back home?

Andy:

I think you know my opinion of how we should define "illegal".

In the story that started this discussion the mention of "illegal aliens" did not seem to me to shift the focus to illegal aliens exclusively.

I am for proper handling of all illegal persons (criminals) in our community regardless of national origin or even citizenship.

I'd like to add, if that had been an American that had hit us, I would them punished too. Unfortunately, the judge thought a slap on the wrist was ok. This was his third offense in 1993.
All prisonable offenses need to be treated as such, and send the criminals that are convicted of these should be sent to jail.

I think we're having two different conversations: domestic offenders and illegal aliens. for those who are citizens, if they are convicted, they should do their time.

Mike
NO, it is not right to send them home at all. I'm so sorry to hear your story. I remember that incident though.
My parents and I(5mos pregnant), were slammed in the rear at 70mph while turning into Law's Auction. The driver was drunk and admitted to being here illegally along with his passenger. They were both at PW Hospital while my family and I were there. They could barely walk they were so drunk. We went to court, that joker came to court without any cash to pay fine. The judge gave him 2hours to go and get the money or the would issue a capias for him. He came back paid his fine and skipped away. Go figure. We were in a car with under 100 miles on it and it was totalled. I've had 5 friends killed by Drunk drivers, and they are anything but innocent or non-violent.
I just don't think that we the law abiding citizens best interest are considered all of the time by many parts of our government.

PWC jail has been sending prisoners home to serve their debts to society for years!
In 1996 I worked hard to have a DUI driver, who was responsible for several thousands of dollars in (my) property damage and serious personal injury to my family member, serve a sentence and receive needed rehabilitation. This guy was a classic "habitual offender", involved in a high-speed police chase on Ashton Avenue who ended up in MY yard! He was charged with DUI, felony evading and more.
I just looked at the pictures of the aftermath for the first time in years and the accident was bad, worse than I cared to remember! More than 100 mph through MY back yard. Trees gone, privacy fence gone, my wife hit by the car and flying debris!
I spent a lot of effort with Manassas PD, PWPD, and Paul Ebert's office to see that the offender was sentenced to time in jail and was ordered to receive treatment.
All this to have Glenn Hill (who was in charge of the jail at that time) send the guy HOME after only two days served!
This guy was seen back at his old watering hole long before my family member was off crutches!
When I had a chance to speak with (now Sheriff) Hill he explained that DUI was a non-violent crime and he was not aware anyone was hurt.
Well Mr. Hill was wrong, innocent people were hurt, one seriously injured!
The perp should have served the time!
Does it really serve the publics' best interest to send them home?

Andy H/Big Dog
I'm all to aware of the fact the countries of orgin won't do anything, and don't want the criminals in their country either.
The foreign jails are not as nice as "PWC PALACE".
I know they'll sneak back over the border, because we don't have a secure border. However, I don't think we(legal citizens), should have to pay for anything benefitting these criminals. I think you might be missing the fact that there was a little fun being had here. Heck, I don't and never have likedthe all the comforts inmates are given. I work hard, obey the law, and pay my own way, and wish others would do the same. There's too many "FREEBIES" for my taste. No need to say sorry, I hope this helps explain my position.

Andy writes, "Our justice system is a mix of deterence and retribution. I’m not sure sending a convicted killer home is much of either."

THAT is why I am a supporter of the Death Penalty and believe it should be swift. When it comes to murder, I don't care if the victim was homeless or the President, the speed to execution should be the same. Unfortunately, for President it takes days (though who knows with Lee Harvey Oswald) instead of YEARS for you or me.

Big Dog: No, "Home" in THIS instance means place of dwelling, their house. We are NOT talking about sending people back to Tegucigalpa, we are talking about sending them back to 123 Main Street. THIS is what is now happening in PWC.

oh, as far as Rafel Edmunds goes, don't really remember him just that he was part of the DC "gansta" movement in the 80s. If I was not at The Citadel during the 80s, I was serving in The Old Guard and most of my attention was on the Soviet Union.

The "Send Them Back Home To Serve Time" theory
won't work -- folks, their country of origin isn't
going to lock them up for crimes they do while in the
U.S.A.! Sorry, in 99% of the cases, they get off the
plane/bus and go home. Plus, there are numerous
documented cases of the same illegal immigrant
being deported and sneaking back here five or six times.

The only place they are certain to serve time is here -
that is a real world fact. Sorry.

An interesting fact: The PWC jail is currently being expanded by 200 beds. It is projected that it will be full the day it opens.

I'm mystified by the mindset that says "illegals convicted of crimes should be deported the next day". Our justice system is a mix of deterence and retribution. I'm not sure sending a convicted killer home is much of either.

CA: It was a joke, get over it.

Lafayette: WOW!!! I remember G. Gordon ALWAYS slamming the prison guards (did not matter what prison). I would JOKE that the guards were probably guarding relatives, hence why security was a joke, but I did not realize that the guards had actually been inmates. I guess felons in DC CAN legally hold guns after all.

Well, it's been said that once criminals get out, a lot commit a crime JUST TO GO BACK because they actually miss jail. Maybe what you described is sort of like that - don't want to do the time, just want to be "at the scene." VERY interesting.

JL
I was on Federal jury duty in the late 80's, I was on three duties there, and they were all Lorton cases. I loved it all of the guards that were put on the stand were former inmates of Lorton themselves. Now how's that for credible witnesses??
Yeah, all these former guards were INNOCENT too. I guess "the man" made them commit the crimes too.
Does the name "Rafel Edmunds" ring a bell?

John Light: If it means we can once again feed Christians to lions, then I'm all for it. My greatest regret, when I look at history, is that Rome ran out of lions before it ran out of Christians. Think of all the trouble that would have been avoided through the years if only that silly cult had been wiped out before it spread and poison so many promising minds.

Here's an idea...bring back Circus Maximus and use the inmates. The winners get their names on a plaque and the proceeds go to the victims families. Nahhh, too radical - lol

Lafayette: Rock on!!!! And thank you for the compliment :-) Yes, I DO remember that about Lorton and my comment at the time was, "What about the victim's family who LOST THEIR relative!!!" But oh yeah, Lorton inmates were all INNOCENT!!! It was "the man" who put them behind bars!!!

The Armory or The PWC Fairgrounds would work nicely if we wanted to keep the local. Although, I like the idea of Arizona, the further away the criminal elements is, the more difficult it is for family and friends to visit.

I know you'll remember this one...
When Lorton closed, all of their(inmates') "family and friends", were so worried about how they were going to see their "loved ones/inmates". Well, they are now scattered around the coutry. However, I'm pretty sure it would cost less to house them here. Either one works great for me. The illegals should be sent back to their country of origin, and do the jail time there!
On a heavier note(haha), theme song of the day is AMERICAN WITCH(Mr. Zombie).."some showed the FAITH and some showed NONE"
