Greg,

I rode down and looked at the "day labor center" in Woodbridge near the intersection of PW Parkway and Rt 1.
It is just a strip of vacant land behind the 7-11 store that faces Rt 1, and the Covenant Presbyterian Church that faces the PWP. I was there at noon today, there were about 30 to 50 people visible and more came out of the woods when I slowed to a stop. I was told by a local merchant that if I wanted to see more, "just drive down Rt 1, they're everywhere".
My guess is that the land is owned by the church. There is a Cardinal Bank directly across the PWP with a high ground vantage point, and with a sidewalk at street level, a perfect Kodak moment location.
It is very clear we have a BIG problem there. This church has Spanish services at 7:30 pm everyday (Martes thru Domingo) (M-F) , so I assume there is a very large Spanish presence at that church.

LAFAYETTE

Oh that's sad. Now we even have traitors feeding illegally obtained documents to these people. I don't know what it is going to take, but we need to have more legislation, more penalties and more importantly, more penalties for all of those who accept illegal aliens for anything from jobs, financial papers, etc.

And apparantly Fairfax County is thinking about DLC for illegals.

"Lieedtke suggested that Sully District construct a day laborer center as was done by the town of Herndon, but Frey said he does not think the day laborer problem in Centreville is big enough to consider a center yet."

Fed Up
There was a big bust made in front of Global Foods, Portsmouth & 234 Festival Shopping Center. The gang task force, and numerous other agencies. All law enforcement were wearing masks to protect their identity. The girl taken into custody was an American, she'd been involved with providing illegals with various documents. This story was in the MJM, about two weeks after it happened. I wish I knew the girls name. I sure hope she gets convicted and the book thrown at her. Well, she's an American she won't be deported, and who knows how long before deportation would happen for the ones buying these documents. She had documents at the time of the bust, they'd been watching for some time before the big bust. They came in there FULL FORCE, my daughter and I couldn't believe it. I will try to track down that story. It was about two months ago. Simply put, there are too MANY folks feeding the illegal invasion cancer.

freedom,

I hope you realize that half of our children either have had their social security stolen by illegal immigrants or are going to have their SSN stolen by them.

I think that we need to lobby for legislation that will provide for real penalties for people that do steal SSNs but, more importantly, that we find and destroy SSN and fake documentation mills which are springing up all over America. There have been two huge ones already discovered in Northern Virginia. Does anyone know what kind of convicitions these people have gotten? and if any of the people found to be in possession of these illegal docs have been deported?

I recently had the unfortunate experience of visiting the DMV...and of course, they have voter registration there. To be registered to vote, one must have a SSN....well, at first thought, that oughta limit the illegals.

However, I imagine that if one sifts through a little trash, it would not be too difficult to come up with someone's SSN, huh? Suppose that the voter registration people would investigate Social Security files to assure a "match" between the number provided and the name presented? I doubt it.

Dolph - after what happened in the 51st Convention, I agree. As far as the comment by Liz about the ACLU, all I have to say is, if ANY law is U.S. first, the ACLU will sue.

As loosey-goosey as our voter registration requirements are, and as non-existent as the checks and balances governing verification are, I sure wouldn't bet on them not voting.

I used to think they couldn't vote also. Used it as an argument even. Now I am just not so sure.

After all, the fox now guards the henhouse....

I am sorry,

I must be missing something. How do we force illegal aliens to stay away from the day laborer centers and how do we force illegal aliens away from their usual "hiring spots?"

I do not believe that this will address the problem in a way that will not be challenged by the ACLU and the advocacy groups. To build a center for them to try and control who is legal and who is not is a little bit like having bordellos. YOu can control who is in them, but not who is out unless the police and authorities are willing to do raids on locations where the illegals will remain when the day center will be established.

Do we have the power at this point to enforce the DLC? Not if constant challenges will be placed in the way. Let us not remember what happened to the first set of ordinances that were set out by PWC last year. It will be a hard sell to enforce the DLC as exclusive to the legals immigrants. However, loitering is no longer a crime, since no one is willing to enforce it. How will we force illegals from gathering at new sites?

The only way to reduce this problem is to use the existing law and augment penalties until employers stop hiring illegals before legals.

So if you build a DLC and the laborers still hang around various 7-11's, how does that work?

I remember reading recently (in the WaPo, I think) that the reason that Herndon was having trouble finding a "group" to run its DLC was that, if they insisted that it be open only to those workers who could indicate that they were in the US legally, there would not be enough workers to justify the costs of the center.
