Kopko Blasts Republican Nominee Marty Nohe
By Greg L | 8 August 2007 | PWCRC, Prince William County | 26 Comments
I’ve always had the impression that the purpose of the Prince William County Republican Committee was to elect Republican candidates to office. If that’s the case, why is Chairman Tom attacking a republican candidate on the committee’s website? Even though Marty Nohe doesn’t have an opponent in the November 2007 election, it would seem awfully contradictory for the Chairman, absent any apparent direction from the committee, to turn the county’s Republican unit into an issue advocacy organization and start trying to throw Republican nominees under the bus.
I don’t agree with Prince William’s decision to participate in the NVTA’s regional tax plan either, but you’d think this would be more properly the job of something like the Taxpayer’s Alliance.
PWCRC members should be asking questions about this. RPV might have a couple, also.

On the contrary, Greg, it’s very refreshing to see a party chair at any level speak the truth.
That is unconscionable for a county party chairman to do. We need new leadership of the PWC GOP. We need someone who is going to be a nuts and bolts chairman who will use all the party’s resources to elect our party’s nominees in the general election and STAY OUT OF THE NOMINATION PROCESS. Let the party members decide who the nominees are and then put the full muscle of the party machinery behind them all once that is set.
It is no secret that Kopko wanted to run against Nohe in a primary for Coles Supervisor this year. If Kopko still wanted to be on the BOCS, he’d keep his powder dry, hope for Lingamfelter to move up to bigger and better things sooner rather than later, have Nohe move up to Lingamfelter’s delegate seat and then run in a special election for Coles BOCS himself. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot!
Kopko the dictator! What is with this guy? He is only causing dissention and hard feelings within the Republican party. This is not the time to be pulling stunts like this.
What an ass!
Didn’t Ronald Reagan say something against what Kopko is doing??? “Thou shalt not speak ill of any fellow Republican” - Ronald Reagan’s 11th Commandment.
Kopko illustrate yet again why we are witnessing the zenith of his politcal career. Once his term as Chairman is over, so is he. This guy is an absolute cancer and no one in their right mind would support him. What he has done to the GOP in Prince William in such a short time is unforgivable.
You people are just AMAZING! You criticize Kopko for activities that you engage in yourself (see next post).
Nice situational ethics.
Greg:
Your bias is showing again. How can you extol Delegate Marshall for filing suit on Tuesday, then on Wednesday blast Kopko for taking Marty to task for his advocacy and support of the NVTA tax package.
As to it being “absent any apparent direction from the committee”, I guess you have forgotten about the resolution adopted on May 21. I’m no great fan of Kopko, but don’t expect me to buy into your crap if you’re not going to mention all the facts. Besides, Marty is a Republican of convenience, at least on tax issues, or do we need to revisit the issue of real property tax increases he has supported in the past or last years “compromise”.
Lastly, Mitch, given your man-crush on Marty, neither your comments nor alleged concern for the PWCGOP can be taken seriously.
Mom
“You people are just AMAZING! You criticize Kopko for activities that you engage in yourself (see next post).

James,
You couldn’t be more WRONG! The Party Chairman’s duty is to provide the method of nomination, and to get Republican nominees elected…PERIOD. It’s not his job to favor one candidate over another, prior to nomination, or to publically criticize the legitimate nominee, regardless of his own political views.
FURTHERMORE, the Chairman should NEVER make a decision to criticize a nominee on his own. If the committee wants to pass such a resolution, fine. That is the will of the committee, and the Chairman is only expressing the will of the committee. Looks to me that this, as in so many other cases, the power-drunk Kopko is chosing to act solo. This, along with his public outbursts during the Davis/Hurst debates, brings great discredit to the committee. Kopko should be removed.
Greg is not the chair of the Prince William County Republican Committee. This Kopko clown is. The situational difference should be obvious.
Having said that, I don’t even know the individuals involved. You are getting a fairly unbiased opinion here. I wouldn’t participate in either party if you paid me George Bush’s salary. However, I have been around the block a time or two and for any county committee chair to bash the party’s own candidates publically is probably the dumbest thing I have ever hear of happening. Why not just get out a nice silver platter, and carry the election over to the Democrats, on said platter?
For the record, from the phone calls I have gotten, the local Democrats hate their local party chair also and will not even say his name. You would think he was Voldemort or something. I would be taking advantage of that situation rather than devouring your own.
Dolph - don’t you realize that Republicans eating their own is common place down here? I agree with you 100% on your observation on the role of the chairman, as well as Batson’s. We had a chance to actually make a difference. Ms. Lucas brought to the table an unblemished track record and a history of getting things done for not just the party, but for her constituents and look how she is thanked. And Marty Nohe - come on, people, you don’t think the D’s are taking notes as to how the PWCGOP is treating him!!!!
With the D’s in disarray, we had a chance to pick up so many seats, but instead we lost the 51st, more than likely have lost the Clerk of Court, and now it looks like with the backlash of the 50-worst Convention over and done, ANY elected official associated with the Faisal campaign is in the race of his life - Ken C. is being outraised BIG TIME and Corey S? Well, I would say that he is on borrowed time as well.
Thanks for ruining the wet dream, Kopko, of Republican victories in the VA House and Senate!!! All you had to do was the right thing and now bashing a fellow-Republican ON THE PWCGOP website - inexcuseable!!! A TRUE leader would publically praise Nohe but BEHIND THE SCENES admonish him of his errors.
John,
I knew the local Democrats habitually ate their own but I didn’t realize the local Republicans were equally carnivorous. Your local chair really appears not only to lack leadership skills of any sort but also common sense.
Thank you, “Batson,” for that authoritative commentary on the role and duties of a GOP unit Chairman. I yield to your well-known and documented superior knowledge and experience in the duties of, dealings with, and advice to, GOP unit Chairmen.
As for the comments, I didn’t comment at all on Kopko’s action. I commented on the situational ethics of those attacking him.
We are also going to lose the Senate seat in Prince William because the GOP couldn’t find a candidate to run against Puller even though she is vulnerable.
“Thank you, “Batson,” for that authoritative commentary on the role and duties of a GOP unit Chairman.”
You are welcome, “James”, for a rebuttal to your constant emissions in defense of Kopko, Gill, etc. which smell like they manate from the lower-terminus of your gastro-intestinal tract.
Run along now James. The DeathStar won’t build itself, you know.
“We are also going to lose the Senate seat in Prince William because the GOP couldn’t find a candidate to run against Puller even though she is vulnerable.”
What, Kopko couldn’t even get Steve Chapman to run? Oh, that’s right, Chapman “lives in Manassas” now.
Bats…James is just jealous because he has never been elected to anything that has to do with adults. James, “Nothing to see here, move along” http://corky.net/scripts/StarWars.html
Wow, Greg, you’ve been elevated to the level of Party Chair! Congratulations! And this blog is equal to the Prince William County Republican Party! Who knew???
Silly me, I thought that in situational ethics things had to be remotely comparable.
I’m further amazed to learn on this thread that a Delegate filing suit regarding legislation is equal to a party leader singling out one party member and trashing him.
The PWCRC passed a resolution to remove a member when they speak badly about a GOP candidate.
You ousted an independent candidate from the committee because he sent a fundraising letter that contained derogatory information about his Republican opponent. Did you forget…rules apply to everyone, including you?
Well, “Ari,” I’m not sure what to make of your comment. I’m serious. Does that mean that Greg should be removed, too? After all, he is (or was) a member of the Committee, unless I’m mistaken, and I’m pretty sure he has spoken “badly about a GOP candidate.” Incidentally, I opposed that nonsensical resolution (it was never a by-laws amendment), which expired upon the election of a new Committee in 2006, or perhaps as long ago as 2004 (I remember the debate and its adoption, not when it occurred). It was never enforced, and I certainly would oppose enforcement. Too much room for situational ethics.
And I’m not sure what you mean at all by your second ‘graph. To whom are you referring? I’ve been a member since the formation of the Committee, and no one has EVER been expelled. Many have allowed their membership to lapse by failing to attend three consecutive meetings; a few have even resigned in various fits of pique, only to reappear when they wanted something from the GOP. But no one has ever been expelled.
And you call that “rebuttal,” “Batson”? I don’t confuse “rebuttal” with the plaintive, peurile bleatings of a fellow college alumnus embittered by the fact that he is even more of a non-entity today than he was twenty years ago.
One would have thought that you could tell the difference.
Sorry, God makes me type too fast. Under normal circumstances my spelling and grammar are perfect. Thank you Greg, for filling me with the imperfect (misspelling) foibles of the common man. You have shown me, God bless you. that the ‘common man’ can, in fact, be very common.
jimmy, charles misses you; I’m sure he’d be happier if you went home — you two could talk to each other.
Kopko, Stewart, and company tried to do in Maureen Caddigan and got their lunch handed to rhem. Now the Kopko Kops are after Marty. If Kopko feels Marty is that bad why didn’t he run against him. I suspect he read the tea leaves and knew he would get his butt kicked. As for those that backed Gill, vote the cretins out of office, all of them.
I’m with you, Conva….Please give us YOUR list of those to be “retired” come November….
Freedom: Stewart, Boling, Lingamfelter, and don’t vote for Fitzsimmonds.
Kopko is not a leader,he’s a dictator. Even that he is a disgrace of being a dictator.
Kopko wanted to run against Marty and the word was put out.For some reason he backed off. Perhaps it was money.
The Committee didn’t have alot, after Kopko and wife spent $15,000 to redo the little Headquarteres, that only is rented. So probably there wouldn’t be money coming to him from the higher ups.
Kopko and crowd is finding out this year, that there are many things that they can not doright.
Come Nov. they will see the results of their vicious ways.
With you again, Conva, but you forgot Michelle McQuigg….be sure to add her to your list.
