PWC Fair Opens
By Greg L | 11 August 2007 | Prince William County | 46 Comments
The Prince William County Fair opened yesterday, with all of the rides, games and events that makes these events such a special part of all that is Americana. Help Save Manassas has a booth at the fair this year, which is generating enormous interest. If you come to the fair, drop by our booth in the Commerce Building, and you’ll have a good chance of running into me, since I’ll be manning the booth a lot of the time.
It’s quite a membership boosting effort. You cannot imagine the reception we get from the crowd showing up for a tractor pull.

Greg,
You should video tape activity at the booth because I’m sure some liberal pro-illegal nut-job will give you worthy material for this website.
Greg,
I’ll definetly make it a point to stop by. The tractor pull last night was definetly a target rich environment for the cause and I’m sure the demo derby nights will be the same.
I wish I could make it, i have not been to that fair in years. Good luck with saving your town.
Haven’t gone to the fair in years -too many illegals……….
As a bow to multiculturalism, this year’s featured attraction will be “Pin the Tail on the Honky”.
“Haven’t gone to the fair in years -too many illegals……….”.
Doesn’t this sound racist? How do you know they’re illegal?
I’m 42 years old and have lived in PWC for 42 years. When I was a teenager, the fair was a ton of fun…a little bit on the dangerous side, but the exciting kind of dangerous, just what a teenager thinks is cool. When my college age son was a little, I was a different kind of fair patron, seeing it through semi-jaded eyes…gosh, should it cost us $100 just to ride some rides and eat some cotton candy? When he was a younger teenager, I was leery of him going alone but then the danger was still the sketchy ‘redneck’ kind (probably exactly what I found exciting as a teenager, I now find worriesome as the Mom). I now have younger children, ages 4 and 7. We live close to the fair and there is no way I can hide it’s arrival from them. They eagerly anticipate it all year long. For the past several years, the slight dread of ‘having to attend for the kids’ has turned into ‘we will go for a few hours, one time, in the daylight.’
The sketchy redneck has changed to leering super scary and I just do not want to deal with it. If I had no children that begged me to go every single day it is open, I wouldn’t go near that place with an armed guard.
I feel the need to qualify this opinion with the explanation that I am a worldly, used to the big city, non-sheltered self confident person. Sadly, the fair is not a place where I feel comfortable taking my family.
I would rather be whipped and beaten with chains than go to the Prince William County Fair. I have felt that way for years. It isnt a new feeling. I agree with anonymous above though. I definitely wouldn’t take kids there. I would bribe them with Kings Dominion if and only if they didn’t mention the fair.
I am just no fun.
We only started to go to the fair about five years ago, and I was shocked to see just how much different the average crowd at the fair is compared to the overall population of the County. We have not gone in about two years, so unless there has been a real change in the folks who go, I see no problem going to the fair.
We also like to go to the fairs of other further out Counties. Talk about being in real America!
citizenofmanassas
There is no problem in going to the fair. I’ve been going my entire life, and have never ran into any trouble. The fair has a true American spirit to it. Not to mention, they still have lots of farm animals, rides, and nightly attractions.
You all should really reconsider visiting the fair.
We met many true Americans there, and signed them up for Help Save Manassas yesterday.
All
Where’s your American spirit?
I have fond memories of the Price William Count Fair as a young child and then even more lively memories as a teenager.
We brought our children there in years past when they were younger and were the age that they needed to hold your hand.
We have missed the fair the past five or six years. I am planning on bringing the kids (teenagers) there tonight to see what it is like. I am hoping that it is as enjoyable experience as I remember it. I do know one thing for sure…….they will not be there by themselves or un-chaperoned!
I am actually looking forward to seeing if it brings back happy memories of years past.
Me
You will feel like your a child/teenager again. Enjoy!!!
corr
you’re a child…
I wish we were going to tonight. We like the Demolition Derby.
@Anonymous
I was waiting for the first “redneck” to appear.
We’ve been to the fair the last few years. I haven’t seen any problems and the police do patrol there. I enjoy it because my daugther and I enter our sewing items every year. She usually wins a ribbon. Most people who go there are the long time true PWC residents. Its a chance to see the real PWC residents.
Illegal aliens tend to stay home and have their beer parties at their flop houses. How do I know? Because I see them with my own two eyes. How do I know they are illegal? They sure run when they see a police officer or a fire truck come by.
@Anonymous
sorry… meaning first redneck COMMENT to appear (about the county fair).
I was born in Appalachia. County fairs were GREAT fun. Almost a piece of home, for me.
I plan on visiting it on Friday. Hope to meet Greg and others, hopefully.
l8r…
Laf,
We most likely will make it to the fair this year. I agree, it is fun.
I have great memories of the fair, even having grown up in Fairfax (our “fair” is weak.) My favorite in PWC was always the mud bogging. I trust they still do that?
es_la_ley ~ I should have clarified the sketchy rednecky influence were more the carnival employees and less the fair patrons.
Let’s not forget the PWC Fair is the largest in the Old Dominion State.
siebenundsiebzig
No, actullay looks like mud bogging has been replaced with Freestyle motor cross. Rodeo Sunday night though. Also, this year Friday night Demo Derby Campionship. The past few years the area PD’s have participated in the Demo Derby. I’m not sure if that’s happening this year or not.
All here’s the link to the PWC Fair

Have some good American fun!
@Anonymous
Carnies are cool! ROFL!
[sorry… hanging head in shame..]

The fair was great! The kids had a blast. Just as I remember it. Perhaps a little less of the craft sales….that or I missed one of the barns that had them in it. I was hoping to pick up some new pottery. The tractor pull was entertaining.
There was one addition to the midway that was not there the last time I had gone to the fair. It peaked my curiosity….the mechanical bull…..you know a 30 something’s body does not bounce back like a teenagers. Thankfully though I was smart enough to recognize this before I did a really stupid thing, I don’t think they could make enough Remy Martin to cure those aches and pains……The kids had a blast on it.
We will be going back again. The demolition derby is running for several days. When it is miserable hot outside, I defiantly would suggest going in the evening. The weather was great tonight.
I hope everyone goes and enjoys, it really is a great time
Amazing how good it is to see so many hating brothers and sisters! You are making it easy for everyone to come right out and see how much you all hate the latinos in your community. Even if they were legal you still hate each and everyone of them because of who they are.
me
Excellent review, and thanks.
Redneck Review,
I am trying to make that quantum leap here…How liking the fair translates into hating Latinos?? Surely you know that the 4th comment down is a set up. Perhaps you need to examine your own prejudices. Come on Red, everyone has prejudices, even you. We just have to come face to face with them.
Anon (4th comment),
We were there on Friday night and I remember thinking to myself how the lack of “illegals” as you put it was prominent. Maybe they, legal or not, were there but it sure wasn’t like driving thru little Mexico ,er I mean, Manassas Park on the way home from work.
We’ll see what the rest of next week holds. We’ll be there about everynight for the demo derby’s and other events.
Funny, not one person called the red neck comment for being racist. However, how many called the illegal comment racist? What is with the situational racist card throwing?
Seems like the knee jerk response is becoming well honed.
Al Sharpton would be very, very proud.
Awesome. “OOOoooh, there’s too many brown people there. They might be illegals! Oh! Oh! Whatever shall I do?” I expect nothing less from this blog.
I see the sandy vagina brigade is out in full force today. Yeah, I bet you get a big sign up from the tractor pull crowd. How many? Just count the number of teeth and divide by four to get the number of people.
It’s not the Latinos we need to move out of this county, it’s the rednecks. This would be a pretty good place if there wasn’t some racist cracker behind every corner bitching about minorities and jumping ever time he hears Spanish. I wish there was a way we could bundle you all up and ship you to Kentucky; probably raise the IQ of both states.
I went to the fair on Friday and Saturday. It looked pretty all-American to me. I didn’t see large numbers of people who a resonable person might suspect were illegal. Quite the contrary , the crowd looked exactly like what I would have expected at a “County Fair”. Just average folks, out to spend (more than) a few bucks, and have a little fun. I went to the tractor pull. Sure, in the crowd were more than a few “good ol’ boys”, but since when is that a crime? I noticed that the adults (all) were aware that there where children around. I didn’t even hear a curse-word spoken.
Did I feel safe? Perfectly. The Police were everywhere. and very vigilant, from what I observed. Would I take children there? Sure, lots to see and do. Would I let my teenage daughter go there unsupervised? Heck no, but not for anything that I saw at the fair, rather, I remember being a teenage boy at the fair when I was younger…and that’s the only reason. A bit sexist? Maybe. But that’s a father’s right.
AS to you Arcane…you never cease to reinforce my opinion of you, that you are a slack-jawed, drool-dripping idiot.
Arcane, you simpering, bed wetting racist - thank you. You made my point.
Politics at the PWC Fair doesn’t work for me.

Trolling?
Good grief. Can you name one person here, or show one post, where someone said they *hate* Latinos!? I mean actually saying it, in writing, here? Falsely interpreting another’s viewpoint based on your own opinion or biases doesn’t count. C’mon… show it.

Ah, but there’s so much more! The farm animals (chickens and cattle are cool, but hogs are my favorite!), the rides, the carnies (which are always a hoot when you get to know them :).
Just havin’ fun! Not meant to be a slap.

Now that truly is a stretch.
Just a little more and the recoil from when it finally breaks is going to knock Redneck Review all the way to Arlington.
anonymous: That is why I kept moving further west in the opposite direction to be closer to my favorite biggots!
Redneck Review,
I know you are nothing more than a NAMBLA supporting liberal from Falls Church or Arlington, but could you be that stupid? Since when did “All-American” become a racist term? You like to portray the fair as a gathering of whites, who once the rides have shut down, hold a “good old fashioned cross-burning”. The fair is a community event, and there were Whites, Blacks, Latinos, Asians, Indians…just about every ethinic group.
But how would you know? You didn’t even attend. I suspect that you are too busy smoking dope, attending your Che and Mao cocktail parties. No, wait. I know where you were. You were too busy cruising chat-rooms for your next “special friend”. You have to make your NAMBLA quota or lose your membership, don’t you.
Redneck Review = Citizen Arcane = Howie Feltersnatch
Didn’t your parents tell you no computer after midnight???
The outcome of overly permissive parenting is often not good.
Spare the rod, spoil the child.
I’ve lived in PW for 23 years, and the fair was always a fun, and affordable place to go. Now that I have children my husband and I mainly go during the day. As a childless couple the fair was a fun place to hang out on a Sat. night and people watch:) This year I’ve gone to the fair twice with my husband and kids. It’s been nice lately b/c there is practically no wait for rides. In fact, I’ve noticed significantly less people at the fair than in years past. I think this may be because of the new, very high price to attend the fair. My friend happened to get a ton of free megatickets, so it was affordable to go this year, but last year we skipped it because of the cost for rides. The tickets cost a dollar apiece, and some rides require 4 or 5 tickets per person. What fair ride is worth $4? The ride bracelet is $18 per person, even if the person happens to be a 2 yr old.

Thanks. You just proved my point. There’s no projected hatred of Latinos in any of that.
>Come on, that is the spirit I’m talkin about! …I know you >hate them too!
You *know* I *hate* them?
Good grief. And how did you come up with that? It’s really an exercise in futility for me, but, sigh, here we go. Your points are vanishing into thin air. Show me one instance where I showed any *hate* toward anyone, ever, here?
Hint: You can’t because it never happened.

Oh God stop! ROTFLAMO! .
You’re over the top! Best laugh I had in weeks.
I went by the republican booth and no one was there. I guess Kopko’s management expertise is starting to show.
Batson + es_la_ley + Mando: “Some real knee slappers”! You guys ARE some good ol’ boys! You may be trying to hide it… but you can feel the dark side of the force.
