Help Save Manassas Membership Doubles, Again
By Greg L | 16 August 2007 | Virginia Politics, Prince William County | 25 Comments
The Help Save Manassas booth at the Prince William County Fair has been a big hit, and we’ve been signing up lots of new members. On Monday, if you count membership applications along with accepted members, HSM crossed the 1,000 member mark and has been adding between 75 and 100 membership applications a day just from the fair. There’s an excellent chance that by the end of the Prince William County Fair, Help Save Manassas will be in a position to have more than 1,500 members once all the applications are accepted at the next meeting. At last month’s membership meeting, there were about 690 members after new applications were accepted.
I believe the Chamber of Commerce will still have more members than HSM if this happens, but we’ll be within striking distance of overtaking them. The effort this week could make Help Save Virginia the largest issue advocacy organization in the Commonwealth of Virginia, which might significantly impact next year’s session of the General Assembly as well as ongoing legislative efforts in many Virginia localities. Meanwhile, Governor Kaine is still ducking calls to implement the Section 287(g) Program for the State Police and Department of Corrections and ignoring the dramatic changes happening within the electorate on this issue.
Pretty soon, he’s going to be getting a lot of mail and phone calls on this, I think.
If you come to the fair, drop by our booth in the Commerce Building. Tomorrow is shaping up to be media day, and there are several camera crews coming by at some point, including Fox News. Several newspaper reporters have stopped by as well and interviewed new members as well as some of our volunteers. What’s happening here in Prince William is drawing national interest, a direct result of the overwhelming public support which is rushing behind Help Save Manassas.

Wooo Hooooo!!!!! Way to go, Greg !!!!!!
Greg, It was good meeting you at the PWC Fair. Keep up the good work!
I am impressed with the number of people who have taken the time to sign up. It is further proof that illegal immigration is a serious issue in this area that needs to be met head on with a tough stance. We have tried to pander to the illegals and that has not worked a bit, in fact it has made the issue even worse.
Greg, god bless you and HSM. Last year I personally wrote and called the governor and each legislator on this issue, and was bitterly disappointed with their lack of concern or perspective on this issue. It feels wonderful to think we might help to actually turn heads at the State level on this issue.
I was one of the folks who signed up on Monday. I’m glad to be a part of HSM, and I hope this surge in membership will be the catalyst for the change Manassas Park (my town) dearly needs.
I’ll be at the fair today or tomorrow. I’ll be signing up (embarassed that I haven’t done so yet).
Mando/All
Drop a twenty, and get a HSM t-shirt while you’re at it. I would suggest all do the same. I’ll be wearing mine tonight(LOUD AND PROUD).
Off topic another GREAT letter to the editor today from Allison.
Thank you very much!!!!!!

I agree that this is something to be celebrated, but how many will actually show up at a meeting (applying the same standards that you do for the PWC GOP Committee)? Or contribute?
JY - MANY show up at our HSM meetings and many contribute, thank you very much.
There are many members that haven’t missed a meeting, and new members like to come to the meetings too. Manassascityresident is EXACTLY RIGHT. Not to mention redawn had excellent idea for donations on another thread. Cancel your subscription to the Journal Mess, and donate to HSM or BVBL.
All HSM members, keep up the great work, and a HUGE thank you to all.

Rick,
You can stop being disappointed, your calls and letters did not go unnoticed!
HSM happened as a direct result of leads from your delegates office!
I’m glad we have Greg, Dan, Maureen, Steve, and all the rest of the HSM crew and members. But if you really want to thank the one person who made this happen, show up at the polls and vote for Jackson Miller.

Mr. Young,
Our meetings are routinely “standing room only”. So much so, we have had to search for a larger venue. Like any organization, we have our hard-chargers, and we have our wall-flowers. All are important, for the simple fact that they email, make phone calls, and most of all, vote.
Rather than compare HSM to a local political committee, I believe a more accurate comparison would be an issue-oriented group, like the NRA. The NRA has a huge membership ( I have heard 4 million). At their annual convention, they might get 20-30,000. But, when Wayne Lapierre lobbies congress, he is representing 4 Million members. When Greg and his Executive Members speak before a local jurisdiction representing HSM 1500-2000 voters spread out through the three localities is a pretty significant number. If you consider that in a locality like Manassas Park, which routinely has very low voter turnout, the ability to have 200-300 issue-oriented voters get to the polls can influence an election. No other citizens advocacy group or political committee membership can concentrate as much meaningful, local pressure to bear, from within their own ranks. VCDL comes close, but they don’t have that many members who reside in Manassas, Manassas Park and Prince William.
Yeah, Jackson Miller gets my vote now and forever.
James Young-
Our member are VERY generous and it actually humbles me to see how much they give. If not for the generosity of our loyal members there is so much we would not be able to accomplish, like the fair. Some of our members give us donations every month, some have given extremely large donations for specific purposes. And now is a great time for me to thank all of you have given your time or money to help further the cause of Help Save Manassas.
People finally feel that there is some hope out there! The Help Save groups are it!
Maureen, you and our other officers are always an inspiration and source of hope in this quagmire we are in. It is a pleasure to donate to such a worthy cause led by such honorable people. At each meeting, I am impressed by the rational, reasoned, good hearts, and cool heads which I believe will prevail. Thank you, fearless leaders!
I ditto that! Thanks, HSM, for working so hard and for giving us hope!
Finally, I got a chance to go to the PWC Fair today (8/17 - around noon). What a hot day! We were all baking in the heat!
We saw a few hogs and some old goats. Then we went to the area where they have the actual livestock.
Met Greg too. Pleasant experience. He’s a rather gangly fellow, I might add, with quite a charm.
I didn’t catch the name of the lady that was with him in the booth (sorry!).
Minor edit to my post at 9:24 pm:
Met Greg around 3:30-4:00. Fair wasn’t open at noon.
Mea culpa.
All I can say is: “GOD HELP MANASSAS” and all other communities where ‘HELP SAVE …’ comes in - nothing but strife and divisiveness comes along with them. BTW, what does it require to be accepted as a member, since I read that an application has to be filled out. Security clearance????
Ottilia
What do you care what is required for Help Save Manassas?
You live in Herndon, and that place was turned over to the ILLEGALS in the late 80’s and early 90’s.Fairfax turned over Annandale in the 70’s. This is how Fairfax addresses the issue, and this has been going on for decades now.
Fairfax is simply in DENIAL. Now, is the time for the legal citizens to take a stand against illegal immigration, and drain that is on our society.
I say “GOD HELP OTTILLIA OF HERNDON”.
I must give my deepest heart felt THANKS once again to the Honorable John Stirrup, Greg L, Dan A, Maureen W, Steve T, and the 1200+ members of HELP SAVE MANASSAS!!!!!
Lafayette - What do I care? Not much really; just happen to be nosy. And, as for God helping me. I need all the help I can get to keep cool - sometimes! So thank you for you wish.
Ottilia
I truly agree with you on this. I think we all need help to keep cool-sometimes, especially with a topic that is so prevalent, everywhere we seem to turn around here in my neighborhood thesedays. It’s an older, established neighborhood, that was safe, and affordable. I can understand why one would to live here. I know you are new on here, at least as far as know. I have lived on the same block my entire life. Lafayette is the name of my street. My real name is on this blog.I have also, lived next to legal immigrants this whole time. I grew up next to a German immigrant, and moved straight accross the street from the house I grew up in, and my next door neighbor to the left of me again is also from Germany. My Guatamalan neighbor of twenty years moved because she didn’t like how WestGate(our neighborhood) had changed. I would also, like to add all three of these ladies are now PROUD US CITIZENS!
I really am curious do think Fairfax is in denial? Or is it my outsider perception.
You are welcome. I hope this explains where I’m coming from on the issue of illegal aliens.
Lafayette - Thanks for sharing your bio! I’m sorry in a way that you haven’t had a chance to live anywhere else your whole life but it might also, in a way, explain your outlook. I was probably one of the last immigrants to sail into the New York harbor ( 1951). At that time the quota system was in force and my country’s quota was never filled so I got a green card along with my OKd visa. I have been fortunate enough to live on both coasts plus the center, in Alaska, Nevada, plus a two and a half year stint in Indonesia. My beef is with these people who say “Go home and get in line for your visa”. I and my family have dealt with US consulates abroad, and I tell you, it’s tough and degrading.
My son’s father-in-law is a Vietnamese, who worked with the US Army during the Viet war. We wanted him to come for a month’s visit. We sent documents showing financial assets, swore that he would not be a burden to the government. letter from our congressman. No dice! We tried THREE times and were turned down every time. Each visit to the consulate costs between 75-100 dollars. He owned his home in Vietnam, he had two younger children and a wife at home, yet the consulate told us he couldn’t come because he might “disappear” here. - My son wanted to bring his wife and baby here for a first visit (he lives in Saigon). I don’t know how many times they had to visit the consulate. The Consul General is all-mighty. They finally got the visa. - I’ve also had icy treatment at the consulate in Jakarta - outcome negative.
I don’t believe in open borders, but I can understand why poor people try their darndest to bypass the consulate.
If more black people knew what Help Save Manassas stands for they too would join and the membership would multiply. I”ve read where some have labeled HSM and white racist organization which is SO far from the truth. Pass out flyers at the First Baptist Church and First AME in Manasssas and many would support HSM.
The black community has been affected by Illegal Immigration tremendously and we’d like to “Help Save Manassas”!
ZERO TOLERANCE for Illegals!
