Colgan Ducks And Weaves
By Greg L | 18 August 2007 | 29th VA Senate | 4 Comments
Chuck Colgan, who is running for his umpteenth term in the 29th Senate District, has now updated his website (link fixed) to allow visitors to comment on items in his news section. This change coincided with his campaign manager’s addition of an attempted defense of Colgan’s vote on the version of HB 3202 that exclusively tagged Virginians with “abuser fees.” How convenient, although not so terribly convenient for him.
In the attempted defense Colgan says he voted for the version he did because he thought it was “more good than bad” although a few weeks ago he told the Associated Press that “I’ve thought this was a lousy bill all along.” Not surprisingly, Colgan’s comments failed to mention that the version he voted for was the one that only hit Virginia drivers. Colgan’s position on the bill can now be summed up as: Voted against abuser fees for everyone, voted for abuser fees for just Virginians, attacked abuser fees, and then defended his vote in support of abuser fees. You’d think that after all of Colgan’s experience in elected office, he’d be better than this.
The post closes by saying that Colgan has always opposed abuser fees (although fails to mention he voted them into law) but had to vote for the bill because nothing had been done during the previous three years and no one liked his idea to raise gas taxes at the same time Virginia was running a billion dollar budget surplus. Colgan seems to think that his previous failures to advance his tax-raising position on transportation is somehow justification for producing a “lousy” law. Is it a case of “nobody listened to me, so I violated my principles, and then changed my story a bunch of times?”
It sure looks like it to me. Readers might want to visit Colgan’s site and let him know what you think of his “defense.” It’s pretty pathetic.

Greg, for the link above, “website not found.” FYI.
This seems to work: http://colganforsenate.org/?p=39
Bob Fitzsimonds might be a nice guy, but he isnt qualified for much more than carrying Sen Colgan’s bags!! And as far as immigration is concerned, Bob has no idea what he is talking about….
Senator Colgan’s website “explains” rather than “defends” his position on abusive driver fees……he has ALWAYS been against them.
Yes, please do go to chuck’s website and read about all that he has done for the region in his many years as Senator. Read especially the “Recent news” pages on the right sidebar.
Please also read his perspective on illegal immigration which can be found by clicking on “Accomplishments” and then on “Issues” which pops up on the second bar. Chuck has ALWAYS been against illegal immigration.
