Trying to Macacca Help Save Fairfax?
By Greg L | 19 August 2007 | Fairfax County | 10 Comments
This is the attitude which will spell destruction for Democratic candidates in Fairfax, should this attitude pervade their ranks:
Attending this meeting were a number of GOP candidates and elected officials including Ken Cuccinelli, Patricia Phillips, Tim Hugo, Pat Herrity, and Gary Baise. While no Democratic candidates were there, I did see Jonathan Murray from Janet Oleszek’s campaign there, and the crowd was bipartisan with Mary Lee Cerillo and her husband Andy Cerillo. It’s not the kind of organization I would join, or even attend the meeting if I wasn’t covering it for this blog, but apparently some Democrats are very passionate about this issue.
(Emphasis added)
Or is this just a case of Democrats in Fairfax being afraid of the overwhelming bi-partisan majorities that favor more effective controls on illegal aliens at the state and local levels? That might be a more likely reason for this appearing on NLS. If Help Save Fairfax takes off with the same momentum seen at Help Save Manassas, Democrats who have actively contributed to building the sanctuary policies that are in place in Fairfax, such as Gerry Connolly, could face real trouble this November. Wrongly suggesting that Help Save Fairfax is some sort of extremist organization in an attempt to suppress it’s membership in this way is only going to align Fairfax Democrats more closely with the illegal alien lobby.
Let ‘em try it. Let’s just see how well Fairfax Democrats do trying to mimic Walter Tejada. Fairfax might be a lot “bluer” than Prince William, but it’s sure not Arlington.

Give it a break, BVBL. We all know this timely immigration talk right now is all about November. There’s no real intent to do anything, just like when the Republican Congress in early 2005 put off any votes on immigration reform until after the midterm elections. Why do that? TO USE IT AS A CAMPAIGN ISSUE. The local Republicans are trying to dip into that same well. And it will backfire just like it did for their federal counterparts.
I meant early 2006.
Its already started. Democrat Del. David Bulova has a good record on immigration, and NLS is looking to take him down

NLS is nothing compared to RK, where Lowell exhausts every possible reason for Bulova voting for the legislation, exempting even the possibility that he believed it was the right thing to do. After all, no Democratic Delegate, one from the heart of Fairfax no less, could possibly consider taking a tough stance on illegal immigration without Lowell’s consent.
JuniorBug, I think I can conclusively demonstrate that I am working on solutions now, not in November. I don’t think the HSM members, nor I, would be content to wait months to obtain solutions now with whoever is in office, anywhere. Should they fail to respond to the popular outcry, perhaps the voters will render their verdict at the ballot box on November 6th, but I am far more interested in achieving solutions now than expecting that electoral results will somehow deliver solutions at some point in the future.
Republicans and Democrats have united on this issue wherever it has been forcefully raised. If it is forcefully raised in Fairfax, I expect we can obtain results there much sooner than if we somehow expect that all the incumbents will be replaced at some point in the future.
I’d take a Democrat taking strong action on this issue over a business-as-usual Republican any day. If you don’t think so, ask Ben Tribbet about what I said last night at the meeting in Fairfax.
Great response Greg.
Thanks……
Excellent reply to Junior, Greg. As far as Junior calling this immigration talk “timely”, what did you expect after a “comprehensive reform” federal immigration bill is narrowly derailed after significant public outcry? Should we just sit back and wait until our elected officials try to circumvent the will of the people again?
Chris: Thanks for the link, but you should have added the quote of the day from NLS: “Apparently David Bulova has another strange vote where he went against Democrats- voting to make it illegal for illegal immigrants to step foot in Virginia.”
Hmmm, voted to make it a crime to commit a crime…how novel!!!
I accept your sincerity, Greg, but the Congressional Republicans in 2006 decided that they would rather use immigration as a political talking point on the trail then push through a solution when they had the majority in Congress. They had the opportunity at the federal level to take action but decided against it. The Democrats can’t be blamed for that.
It might not be ‘timely’ to those of you on the gound who sincerely want quantifiable action, but to the pols, this is nothing more than a wedge issue being put forward at an opportune time to change the subject as Election Day nears. Look at Loudoun County for instance where Eugene Delgaudio is pushing this issue with unconstructive rhetoric. He’s not after solutions. He’s after soundbites, newspaper clips and boosting his name ID.
This is not a Democrat v. Republican issue…it is an American issue. This is not a haves v. haves not issue…it is an issue which crosses all economic lines. It is a LEGAL v. ILLEGAL issue, and THAT is how it must be addressed politically, irregardless of Party. It is up to all citizens to separate the rhetoric from the sincerity. That’s all we can do when it comes to our politicians. In the meantime, it is organizations such as the Help Save [enter your locality] which are giving effective voice to the average citizen who wants something done about this problem immediately, regardless of party affiliation or economic status, or ethnicity. That’s what democracy is all about.
