Not Smart

This is pretty disturbing. Myron Rhodes candidacy for clerk in Rockingham County is probably finished, after a prank by his wife to reserve the domain name for the ODBA and forward it to the National Man-Boy Love Association. Private Domain Registration is not at all that impenetrable veil of anonymity that some might think it is.
UPDATE: One of the ODBA members clarifies Meagan Rhode’s involvement in this in the comments:
The info I have is that Whackette was tipped by Ben, who then turned around and linked back to her. FOR THE RECORD: Whackjob, when I contacted him, was extremely helpful and doing his best to assist me in finding out who *IS* responsible for this.
Whackette, to my knowledge, did NOT set up the domain, neither did she have anything to do with the redirect to that terrible site.

To clarify, while Myron’s wife “broke” the story of this on Daily Whackjob, I have no reason to believe that she reserved that domain name. In fact, Greg B. over there has stated that they were tipped off to this by Ben Tribbett. The question then becomes, how did Ben learn of this?
Thanks, Riley.
Yes, Greg, may I request that you correct this post? The info I have is that Whackette was tipped by Ben, who then turned around and linked back to her. FOR THE RECORD: Whackjob, when I contacted him, was extremely helpful and doing his best to assist me in finding out who *IS* responsible for this.
Whackette, to my knowledge, did NOT set up the domain, neither did she have anything to do with the redirect to that terrible site.
So, please, Greg - would you retract that?
Thanks.
Thanks for the update.
I’m kinda dubious that Ben had anything to do with this other than perhaps to point out that the domain was unprotected. I guess we’ll see who was behind this when it all sorts out.
Thanks for clearing it up.
Thanks, Greg L!!!
Mrs Rhodes posted the info then used a official ODBA banner to link to the disgusting site. Ben may have provided the domain address, but the rest was all the work of Mrs Rhodes, or did Ben tell her to do that also?
She knew exactly what she was doing and the effect that would follow.
Her husband Candidate Myron Rhodes has this on his blog.

I think the message is clear as to who is involved in this.
I talked to Ben tonight and he claims that not only did he not do it, but that he doesn’t have the technical know-how to redirect a domain like this. That sounds pretty credible to me.
He got a tip about this. When the ODBA successfully uncovers the domain owner here, which will happen soon, we’ll know who is responsible.
OK, you know, it’s not that hard to do a redirect, folks! I did it myself just yesterday when I bought the olddominionblogalliance dot net and dot org and pointed them to the ODBA Tumblr site. I am not a technical genius, and I did not ask my computer guru hubby for help.
It really isn’t that difficult to do if you simply look around the hosting site, searching for the info. Heck, they could’ve called the help desk at GoDaddy (I’ve done that before, when mapping the CatHouseChat.com domain to the TypePad site)!
So “lacks the technical skills necessary” is a pretty weak defense, IMHO - which is NOT an accusation to anyone, simply an acknowledgment that this is possible even for someone who isn’t very adept at these technical shenannigans.
I agree. Most domain registrars have a pretty simple option of checking a box if you want the domain forwarded to a particular address and then you just insert the URL in the adjacent box. Even Ben is capable of doing that.
This is like High School…only with blogs!!
Well, Ben Tribbett’s highest completed level of education is high school…
I had clicked on that link several days ago - thinking that it would be some silly site or something mildly sexual that might make one blush. I was not pleased to see that it was NAMBLA and to realize that I now had a cookie from those freaks on my computer.
