One BIG problem is that these abusers don't want to pay their fair share even though they are walking the streets with rolls of large bills (cash) in their pockets that would be enough to pay a sizeable house payment, all while paying no income taxes, real estate taxes, etc. And living several families to a s. f. home. (All related of course)

We made this system. I can remember my parents having similiar conversations about the same problem fifty years ago, and we were a very poor family, yet found a way to pay our way, never relying on welfare.

I don't look for this problem to change anytime soon.

Patriot,

I never said who was the biggest abuser of health care system. I said Hispanics were not the only ones abusing the system.

Many people do not have health care insurance because they simply cannot afford it. I am beginning to see this fact as a national disgrace.

We, the insured, are picking up the cost for all those who do not qualify for medicaid and yet cannot afford their own insurance. To assume that all those who cannot afford their own insurance are Hispanic is just dead wrong.

I don't like picking up the tab for anyone, regardless of their race.

Dolph, it has to do also with quality of service! Getting appointments, waiting, etc. When our ER is riddled with illegals....it slows everything down and we all wind up paying higher prices. The prices for insurance are higher to cover the risk of the uninsured!!! Yes, the hispanics are definitely the largest abuser of the sytem. Afterall, who is the largest group abusing the illegal immigration laws?

Do you seriously think it is just Hispanics who are abusing the system? After picking up the tab for my own health care, I am not even sure it is abuse. The price is pretty steep. If you can't afford it, you can't afford it.

I believe Prince William and Potomac Hospitals reported that they wrote off $50 million dollars in unrecovered debt last year. That is pretty horrifying.

Paying your own health care out of pocket is pretty horrifying also. It keeps climbing and will continue to climb because we are picking up the cost for those who are without and who do not qualify for other programs. We are already collectively paying for the other programs through taxes.

Anon makes a very good point about how many people he really paid for. When one factors in all that we are already paying for, a national health care plan seems like a pretty cost effective alternative. No, I don't want 'socialized medicine.' Buzz words should not take the place of meaningful discussion about how we are going to absorb the skyrocketing cost of health care for ourselves and 25 other people.

The ER situation is a major reason for getting the illegal immigration situation resolved quickly. Just look at the news and see how many hospitals are closing! Also, the service levels suffer! Why should a person have to wait 6-8 hours in an ER? One usually waits only an hour in a regular doctors office!!!

About six months ago I HAD to go to the ER. I would not if it had not been a REAL emergency.

When you finally make it to your little ER room, you can hear every single patient around you. So of course I got to hear what was wrong with everyone and hear when they came to collect data. At first I tried not to listen, but that was absolutely impossible.

During the three hours I was in my little cubby I heard a lot of information. I was the ONLY person of about a dozen cubbies within that 3 hour period who had health insurance. I was stunned.

I knew a lot of people didn't have insurance and used the ER as their doctor's office. But I had no idea that it was THAT many people. Some were legitimate emergencies, some were not. But NONE of them had insurance except me. Based on the number of times people came to collect the data, there were about 25 or so people who went through there.

Counting me, one out of 26 had health insurance. No wonder my insurance is so damned expensive - between that and my taxes, I had to pay for nearly 25 other people.

Unions made the "rust belt." By continuing to demand higher and higher wages in their closed shops, they priced themselves right out of the international labor market. Where we once had thriving cities, from Pittsburgh to Chicago, now we've got poverty and despair.

This lady needs to brush up on her Deutsch, also. She's probably pretty familiar with Zig cigarette paper.

Mando

I for one am absolutely convinced that labor unions in certain sectors are not only useless to card carrying members, they are positively antagonistic. One case in point: Miami Dade Teacher's Union. I have yet to find a teacher in that area who has received meaningful assistance from the UTD. Some of the teachers, who are supposed to get legal aid from the UTD have realized that the yearly fee, which is pretty steep in some cases, provides for nothing, let alone legal help in the case of a hostile School Board. I don't know how the Northen Virginia UT stands , but it would be interesting to know.

Labor Unions are the enemy of our free market economy and lost their relevancy 100 years ago. They've survived this long on the backs of the middle class. Recruiting illegal aliens would be a perfect fit and a windfall for the unions.

There is a weird overlap between the upper levels of labor unions and the environmental movement. Many of Labor's top lobbyists and PR people used to work for environmental groups. It turns out that saving the puffins doesn't pay that well, while organizing unions pays very well. So, when environmental scientists decide they want to buy a house, they need to work somewhere else, and a Labor Union is a great place to land. Unfortunately, such people tend not to actually care much about people. They are intensely concerned about the progressive movement, not so much about workers. After all - factory workers rarely recycle.

I used to work for industry in DC and was frequently amazed at the positions the unions took on issues. You would think that unions would like drilling for oil, building new power plants and redeveloping old industrial sites. But you would be wrong.

Greg,

I'd say your assessment of todays union workplace is about as accurate as I've heard ever!

Having worked in a union shop for more than two decades, and having seen my own union local president pictured in the Washington Post marching with the illegal aliens in Washington, DC last year with a huge sign announcing that my local "supports all workers", I truly (sadly) agree with the picture you have painted.

I personally assisted in the unseating of that president in an election held earlier this year, his open support for the illegals while on our time was a strong factor leading to his dismissal.

Perhaps the same treatment is instore for "JJ & the Flounders".

I don't know if this fits the thread but I figure this person is pretty much a left wing nut. I suppose she thinks all of the illegals who hang out at the 7-11 looking for jobs also have tax forms to fill out when they do find odd jobs.

I guess she has also never visited the ER at PW hospital, or she would never have offered up "myth" number 2.

Does she really think a house with more then one family of illegals living in it with school aged children are paying their fair share of taxes when the house is only producing one tax bill?

Again, I hate to sound mean, but did this person stop and think before writing her letter? If so, she should refain from making a fool of herself in the future.
