The Manassas Journal-Messenger reports that an automobile seized by the City of Manassas Park is being proposed as some sort of taxpayer-funded mobile display for public events by the Manassas Park Police Department. Above is our proposed response to a solicitation by the MPPD about how to decorate this car in order to make it suitable for public events, should this waste of taxpayer dollars be enshrined as the community outreach program for the Manassas Park Police Department.
Yes, they don’t have to pay for the car. They still have to pay an officer to drive it, personnel to maintain it, insurance, and for fuel to keep it running. Meanwhile, selling this excess property off would marginally improve the financial position of the City and eliminate a budget line item that during this time of financial pressure. The City can’t afford to enforce the law and effectively combat the huge number of illegal aliens in the park, but it can add a budget line item to run a traveling car show?
Clueless. This local government is utterly clueless.

Didn’t the MPPD keep a confiscated Corvette several years ago? Seems that whenever they get a hot sports car from a bust, they keep it for themselves. This is business as usual for them.
They should charge $5 to have your picture taken with the “bustmobile”, and then they can get SPINNERS for it.-lol

Clueless, unfortunately it is you that is utterly clueless with regard to how the budget process works and who benefits from the proceeds of auctioning off the vehicle. This is merely another of your baseless attacks on a local PD. What’s the matter, they hurt your feelings, what they wouldn’t give you a little plastic badge to pin on your t-shirt at National Night Out.
Since you don’t seem to understand the budget process, the PD is given a mark and generally some broad guidelines in the form of line items. Changes to the manner in which the department chooses to spend their allocation are generally not up to the governing board but rather the chief who manages the department, that’s why you have a chief TO MANAGE THE DEPARTMENT for the city, unless of course you would prefer the governing board micro-managing the department. I highly doubt that the PD will hire a new officer just to drive the vehicle, thus there are no additional personnel costs and the maintenance, insurance and fuel costs are marginal. Those marginal costs are offset by the positives of any community interaction that are enhanced by the vehicle at a PR or outreach event.
What’s next, you want the PD to trade in their Crown Vics for some hybrids, after all there really is no need to go above 45 in MP so lets just lose the big V-8’s and save some expensive gas. Perhaps the liability insurance the city pays as a result of officers carrying firearms is too much for you, maybe you should suggest we make them unarmed London style bobbys.
BTW, if I’m not mistaken, I thought I read an article that gave the name of the suspect who broke into Dominion Arms. Funny thing is his name didn’t seem to be Hispanic, err, that of an illegal alien in your lexicon. But look on the bright side, if he’s a member of HSM, at least he won’t be arming those dangerous Zapatistas
Since we are talking about the Park here are my suggestions.

I was around here when MP PD was using 150HP V6 Ford Tauruses for police cars. (Now you can get 4-banger Chevy Malibus that put out as much HP and go as fast).
